Abstract It is necessary to evaluate the performance of the main rotor in design stages of a rotorcraft to obtain the assumed lift force and low aerodynamic drag. This paper presents the CFD numerical analysis of the autorotating rotor under transient conditions. Auto-rotation is particularly important in the case of gyrocopters, while in the case of helicopters it is related to flight safety. The calculations allowed us to obtain aerodynamic forces and torque as a function of rotor azimuth for individual rotor blades. The analysis was performed for a rotor tilted by 15 degrees toward the airflow direction. A geometric model was created for the calculations and then a computational model was created in Ansys Fluent software. The k-ω SST model was adopted as the turbulence model which considers the turbulence kinetic energy and its unit dissipation. The obtained results are presented in a rotor and flow coordinate system.

Compared with traditional screw pump,all-metal screw pump have more advantages in the oil extraction. In this paper, all-metal single screw pump's geometric model was made by PROE software; then the dynamic mesh technique was applied to mesh the model and constraint condition was applied in the ANSYS-FLUENT software. 3D flow field was numerical analyzed In that software, the impacts of screw speed on volume flow and volumetric efficiency were concluded, the conclusion can offer some valuable guidances to the all-metal single screw pump's design.

Currently demand of Indian budget cars also called people’s car in India is in great demand and around 1 million cars have been sold in the last financial year with 12% increase of sales in every forthcoming year. These are categorized in sub 4m category of sedan, hatchbacks and medium size SUVs’ and their price ranges between 7 to 11 lakhs. The aerodynamics significantly affects the performance of the vehicle particularly at high speed. The manufactures are more focused on styling and giving a luxury look and other features of the car which sometimes make them to compromise on its aerodynamic design. This may lead to increase in fuel consumption at Indian road conditions. A cost-effective way to reduce fuel consumption, drag coefficient, lift force is to improve aerodynamic behavior and reduce the aerodynamic drag. The software used in this work is Solidworks, Ansys Fluent and commercial CFD post. Consequently, of using this software, it allows us to apply, learn and link technical knowledge of aerodynamics and computer knowledge.

In order to solve the problem of increasing the efficiency of purification of industrial gas emissions from aerosol particles, the authors developed a jet-film contact device, described the principle of its operation. The results of numerical studies to determine the efficiency of aerosol deposition on a fluid film of a jet-film contact device are presented. The study was carried out in the ANSYS Fluent software package, using the turbulence model of the k-ω SST model. Different variants of the ratio of the height to the width of the structure of the device are considered. The velocity of the gas flow and the sizes of the dispersed particles are changed. It is shown that to achieve high technical and economic performance of heat and mass transfer devices with jet-film contact devices, they should be designed taking into account the choice of optimum values for the height of the downcomer (kb = 0,46÷0,53).

AbstractThe article presents a comparison of the wing in ground effect magnitude of conceptual WIG craft model main characteristics for a wing with and without endplates which are also known as winglets in regular aircraft. In article, the author describes WIG effect with and WIG craft, which operates on low altitude, smaller than the length of wing chord, mostly above the water reservoir. WIG effect phenomenon is simple. The first aircraft needs to fly at adequate altitude, with a smaller distance between lower airfoil surface and ground static pressure rises, leading to rising of lift force. The main advantage of the wing in ground effect craft on regular aircraft is a much higher lift to drag ratio, also this phenomenon provides to drop in specific fuel consumption of aircraft and allows flying with heavier cargo due to higher lift force. Characteristics present in the article were designated from simulations, which were conducted in Ansys Fluent software. Results obtained for a wing with endplate in numerical analysis shows the superiority of this approach. Endplates provide to increase WIG effect by a decrease in induced drag through the move out vertices from the wing tips, which are made by differential pressure above and under the wing. As winglets in regular aircraft, endplates provide to save fuel. WIG craft does not need airports so it could be a cheap alternative for modern aircraft.

Autogyros can become an alternative for the use of rotorcrafts in various fields of life, including agroforestry. They have better economic performance than helicopters, owing to, among other things, the presence of a bearing rotor. Most autogyros also have other advantages in terms of no need for the compliance with stringent regulatory regulations – with respect to new constructions, lower combustion, noise and emissions of toxic elements. The cover of the bearing rotor head is an important element of rotorcrafts, which demonstrates that aerodynamics plays an important role in aerodynamic designs. Therefore, in this article, air flow model testing is carried out for two types of the bearing rotor blades of an autogyro with and without a cover using the ANSYS Fluent program. An aerodynamic drag analysis was also performed.

The article presents the results of the investigation of a rotor assembly of a wind turbine with a horizontal axis of rotation. The rotor is equipped with a diffuser which is an integral part of the power generating unit. The research was carried out by means of the ANSYS Fluent software. The geometry used for the tests is a development version of the construction shown in patent application PL 412553 and is characterised by an adjustable angle setting of the rotor blades. The geometric model was obtained by 3D scanning of the actual rotor using the ZScaner scanner ®700. The calculations were carried out for the selected blade angle of attack from 0° to 90° separately for the version with and without the diffuser. The results from the conducted tests were used to determine the characteristics of the power generated by the turbine as a function of rotor speed. The secondary objective of the tests was to analyse the effect of the diffuser on the power generated by the entire rotor assembly.

AbstractAerodynamic flow past bodies of various geometrical shapes was studied, and the aerodynamic drag force was reduced through optimization of the body shape using a specially proposed method. The resulting drag force was compared to that for bodies formed by revolution of the profiles of well-known standard series. The study was performed using the Ansys Fluent software for isothermal laminar steady-state flows of incompressible fluid with constant density in a velocity range of 0–10 m/s. It is shown that the aerodynamic drag force for a body with the optimized shape is lower than analogous values for the bodies of revolution with Su-26 and NASA-0006 reference profiles. In comparison to the aerodynamic-drag-force level of 100% for the body of revolution with NASA-0006 profile, the drag force for Su-26 profile at airflow velocity of 10 m/s is 89.4%, while that for the proposed optimized body shape is 89.2%.

Abstract The article deals with the influence of a shape of smokestack casing on the total load from wind effects. It describes possibilities of defining an equivalent aerodynamic roughness and aerodynamic drag coefficient for numerical modelling of the flow around a circular cylinder. The aim of this study is to solve the force coefficient for the smokestack of a cylindrical shape, which is jacketed with shaped sheets. The flow around a smokestack is solved in the ANSYS Fluent software using the DES model.

The paper presents the results of the simulation of the air flow around the gyroplane without the influence of the rotor and pusher propellers. Three-dimensional calculations were performed using ANSYS Fluent software. Based on the calculations, the values of the drag force and the lift force on each component of the rotorcraft were determined. Based on the results obtained, the effect of angle of attack on the aerodynamic forces was obtained.

The heat sink with vertically rectangular interrupted fins was investigated numerically in a natural convection field, with steady-state heat transfer. A numerical study has been conducted using ANSYS Fluent software (R16.1) in order to develop a 3-D numerical model.  The dimensions of the fins are (305 mm length, 100 mm width, 17 mm height, and 9.5 mm space between fins. The number of fins used on the surface is eight. In this study, the heat input was used as follows: 20, 40, 60, 80, 100, and 120 watts. This study focused on interrupted rectangular fins with a different arrangement and angle of the fins. Results show that the addition of interruption in fins in various arrangements will improve the thermal performance of the heat sink, and through the results, a better interruption rate as an equation can be obtained.
