Abstract Banda Aceh City has had an expansion and development plan towards a sustainable city with green city concept since 2012. Based on the green city concept, Banda Aceh City is planned to be an environmentally friendly city by utilizing water and energy resources effectively and efficiently, reducing waste, implementing an integrated transportation system, ensuring environmental health, synergizing the natural and artificial environment, based on urban planning and design in favor of the principles of sustainable development. But in reality there are still some problems such as the absence of adequate public transportation, the unbalanced length of the road with the growth in the number of vehicles so that the traffic flow is not smooth and causes traffic jams, pollution and air pollution. For this reason, this research was conducted with the aim of evaluating the implementation of a sustainable transportation system in Banda Aceh City so that achievements can be known by comparing the initial plan and implementation realization. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method with a gap analysis technique to compare the ideal conditions of a sustainable transportation system with the actual conditions in Banda Aceh City. The results show that the level of application has only reached 43.75% where all the models applied have not been implemented optimally.

Due to the policy of the Doi moi in Vietnam started in 1986, Hanoi has undergone many important changes. Currently, Hanoi's traffic is characterized by seemingly continuous motorcycle flows - a representative of high personal mobility in the context of rising incomes. Congestion, dust, pollution, insecurity, overload, etc., they are important keywords to describe Hanoi's urban traffic. Hanoi has put in place a number of policies to improve the transportation system. In 2017, in Hanoi's new mobility improvement project, there is a regulation on motorcycles: “The municipality will zone by limiting the activities of motorcycles according to the infrastructure and the service capacity of the public transportation system to stop motorcycle activities in the central districts in 2030” that becomes controversial. This article, based on the results of surveys assessing the level of satisfaction and desires of people about traffic at the KDTMs of Hanoi, analyzes the differences between the wishes of the municipality and the practices of Hanoi, through habits, modes of mobility of KDTM residents - the new residential areas of Hanoi that bring a different atmosphere of habitat compared to existing neighborhoods, by changing the mode of (re)making of the city. How will the traffic of KDTM residents be affected by this decision as well as how KDTMs will participate in the sustainable transportation of Hanoi?. It is the KDTMs with their “novelties” that will have to become pioneers creating opportunities of the changing of Hanoi traffic. Keywords: Hanoi; sustainable mobility; efficient transportation; motorcycle; KDTM (new residential area). Received 08 December 2018, Revised 30 January 2019, Accepted 30 January 2019

[EN] In an effort to create a good transportation system in the city of Pekanbaru, the existence of Trans Metro Pekanbaru as the main transportation mode is very necessary to be developed consistently and continuously. Each service route has its own characteristics related to the type of service and the characteristics of the routes served. The purpose of this research is to find out the quality of service in the comparison of service routes so that it becomes a consideration in calculating the quality of Trans Metro Pekanbaru public transportation services. The limitation of this study is to only compare two travel routes, namely route 2 which connects BRPS-Kulim Terminal (commercial route) and route 3 which connects Suska Panam Ramayana-UIN (commercial and educational routes). IPA analysis (Importance-Performance Analysis) is used to determine the quality of service between Trans Metro Pekanbaru travel routes so as to facilitate the prioritization of Trans Metro in improving its services for each service route. The study sample was 279 people for each route. The results of the study show that there are differences in each route. In general, this is because passengers giving reasons for their interest in using Trans Metro Pekanbaru are more attractive than other modes. Thus, the strategy of improving quality in terms of service time is a serious concern for Trans Metro Pekanbaru to achieve a better transportation system and towards sustainable transportation in the city of Pekanbaru.

Traffic congestion has been a major transportation problem in developing countries as private vehicles ownership has been increased dramatically each year. To solve this problem, local authorities need to construct new roads as well as parking infrastructure to meet consumer demand. Park and Ride can be regarded as a transportation management concept that can solve this demand. Park and Ride refers to a transportation management concept where travelers transit from a private transportation (i.e. motorcycle, car, bicycle, and other private transportation modes) to a public transportation system (i.e. bus, tram, heavy railway, mass rapid transport, and so forth). Park and Ride is believed to reduce private transportation in the metropolitan area of a city. In addition, Park and Ride should be located near a public transportation station in the suburban area. Hence, travelers can easily transit from their private vehicles in the suburban area to commute to urban area by using the public transportation system. This research will focus on the study of Park and Ride development in Bandung Metropolitan Area, Indonesia. Park and Ride, as explained earlier, may offer a solution to a sustainable transportation in Bandung Metropolitan Area.

A sustainable transportation system is one in which fuel consumption, vehicle emissions, safety, congestion, and access to social and economic opportunity are of such levels that they can be sustained into the indefinite future without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own transportation needs. Each of the stakeholders in the transportation system—local, state, and federal governments; the fuel and motor-vehicle industries; and public-transportation providers, users, and others—will have roles to play in moving toward sustainability. The motor-vehicle industry, as manufacturers of the vehicles that are used for 99 percent of the personal ground veh-km of travel, will need to participate proactively with all of the stakeholders in the transportation system as it addresses the challenges and opportunities in the areas of fuel consumption, emissions, congestion, safety, and access.

The Jati Kudus Terminal, which plays an important role as a public transportation node on the North Coast of Java Island, has experienced a continual decline in performance and service. This study aims to determine the effect of green terminal concept variables in the Jati Kudus Terminal using the multiple linear regression methods with SPSS 23. Data collection tool in the form of questionnaires distributed to respondents, namely terminal users who know the development of the Jati Kudus terminal every day. The perception data used in the analysis is the level of interest and satisfaction with the service and performance of the Jati Kudus terminal. The evaluation of terminal performance refers to the regulation of the Indonesian Minister of Transportation No. 132 of 2015 on the operation of the road transport passenger terminals. The green concept of terminal buildings and facilities refers to the Green Building Council of Indonesia. The results showed that the variable of transportation service reliability, ticketing, and travel costs have the highest and lowest average scores based on user importance and satisfaction, respectively. The other variables include Security guarantee and freedom from criminal acts; Safety and health guarantee and freedom from accidents; Responsiveness of the terminal manager in providing services; Availability and capacity of supporting facilities; Architectural aesthetics within and outside the buildings; Ease of obtaining general travel information; Affordability and accessibility in and out of the terminal; The density of people and vehicles in the terminal area; Comfort, regularity, and cleanliness; and Application of environmentally friendly concepts on terminal and transportation facilities. Therefore, managers of the Jati Kudus terminal need to repair and improve their services according to these 12 variables. The implementation of the green concept can develop Jati Kudus terminal into a green terminal in Indonesia that serves as a node of sustainable and environmentally friendly public transportation.

All modes of transport can be seen to bring some influence to bear on a country’s economic growth, health, and environment. However, the impact differs among developing countries. This paper presents an assessment and evaluation of the development of a sustainable transportation system in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). For this study, data were collected about the four transportation modes of sea, air, road and rail. The data were analyzed to determine the current condition, needs, challenges, and opportunities for improvement for each mode of transportation. Problems associated with each transportation mode were addressed and solutions to overcome these problems were recommended. The results indicate that while sea transportation provides the country with freight transport, it is of limited service to passengers in the Gulf region or on the Red Sea. Air transportation meets the needs of Saudi Arabia with international connections, but domestic flights provide limited passenger transport to the wealthy and are not an effective mode of transport for short distances. Road transport is the most popular mode for the general public but is associated with numerous problems such as the environment, health, noise, a high accident rate, and being the first cause of death in the country. Rail transportation seems to be the mode which is most sustainable for the future. It is essential that KSA meets public demand for public transportation with a reliable, cost effective, and safe public transportation system. Doi: 10.28991/cej-2021-03091776 Full Text: PDF

Abstract In order to better understand the role of transportation convenience in location preferences, as well as to uncover transportation system patterns that span multiple modes of transportation, we analyze 500 locations in the Tokyo area using properties of their multimodal transportation networks. Multiple sets of measures are used to cluster regions by their transportation features and to classify them by their synergistic properties and dominant mode of transportation. We use twelve measures collected at five different radii for five distinct combinations of transportation networks to rank locations by their transportation characteristics. We introduce an additional 114 scores derived from the 300 measures to assess, among other things, access to public transportation, the effectiveness of each mode of transportation, and synergies among the modes of transportation. Additionally, we leverage those scores to classify our locations as being train-centric, bus-centric, or car-centric and to uncover geographic patterns in these characteristics. We find that business hubs, despite having low populations, are so conveniently reachable via train and road systems that they consistently achieve the highest sociability and convenience scores. Suburban regions have more serviceable bus systems, but lower connectivity overall resulting in lower reachable populations despite greater local populations. Even though Tokyo has the largest and densest public transportation system in the world we find that the road network consistently dominates the train and bus networks for all accessibility measures.

Being situated in eastern Malaysia, Sabah is one of the states which have a firm economic foundation through agriculture, forestry as well as petroleum industries. However, even though it is rich with the natural resources that have long served for the country’s economic growth, as a whole, Sabah is considered a little behind her counterparts in the Peninsular Malaysia in terms of infrastructure and development. This study mainly examines the transportation network in Semporna, Tawau and Lahad Datu which is mostly in poor condition. This is because it is extensively used for the industrial activities including logging, palm industries and quarries. Based on the survey, it is found that the road mostly had potholes, edge raveling, uneven surfaces, road rutting, congestion problems and limited parking spaces. Hence, it is recommended to do the pavement repairs, solid foundation work as well as enhancing the existing public transportation system especially in the rural areas in Sabah.

<p>The increasing of private vehicles and public transportation are the main cause of traffic jammed on the road. The use of public vehicles in Pekanbaru city is higher than the transportation provided by urban council through Dinas Lalu Lintas Transportasi Jalan Raya (DLLAJR). The aim of this paper is to do a research on public transportation system (oplet, ojek, city bus, taxi), also, to analyse which transportation system that have been chosen by consumer in Pekanbaru. The result shows that people are prefer to use oplet and city bus as their transportation even though it has high risk of safety and danger to them. Most people in town has their own vehicles so that the use of public transportation only for temporary period and it usually used by students who has low income. This study finally found that the ojek services are the only transportation system that can arrive to the destination in short time and it can access anywhere that cannot be accessed by other transportation system. The low cost of ojek services is the main reason that people choose it as their transportation. It is obviously shows that the use of transportation system in Pekanbaru is bused on efficiency and punctuality of the public transportation.</p><p><strong>Key Words</strong></p><p>Public Transportation, Efficiency, City Service</p>
