Chapter 2, Bringing the Outside In, examines the industrial infrastructures within which the burgeoning profession of public relations coalesced: rail, steel, and coal, and the simultaneous development of information infrastructures to situate these industries as paragons of democracy in the American imagination. It was in struggles over labor rights, workers’ rights, employee welfare, and industrial reform that the practice of public relations forged its methods, as scions of power and privilege attempted to manage the “external environment” of public and political opinion to reduce friction for the machinations of heavy industry. While the “external environment” does not directly map onto the natural environment, we see in these struggles the porousness of the boundaries between the inside and the outside of industrial production, allowing industrial leaders to control the outside world in addition to the one within their walls.

The relevance of the study is based, on the one hand, on high public danger of crimes in the sphere of labor relations and, on the other hand, on a very low interest of law enforcement, control and supervision bodies in these crimes. The authors show that modern criminal legislation in the sphere of protecting labor rights has a high potential in comparison with both Soviet and foreign criminal law norms. At the same time, this potential, primarily expressed in Chapter 19 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation, remains untapped. Many norms, including Art. 136 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation «Violating the Equality of Rights and Freedoms of Man and Citizen», are virtually never used against discrimination in the labor sphere, although such discrimination is quite common. No such cases have been found in court statistical data, thus it is impossible to provide a comprehensive criminological description of these crimes. The norm of Art. 136 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation is seldom used by law enforcers because it is legally ambiguous. In this connection the authors suggest complementing the disposition of Art. 136 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation with such factors of discrimination as «age» and «marital status». The latter factor will make it possible to provide extra protection to pregnant women and women with children under three years old against unmotivated refusal of employment and firing. The authors argue that such actions of the employer should constitute an aggregate of crimes and should be punished simultaneously under Art. 136 and 145 of the Criminal Code of the Russian Federation. At the same time, the authors think that it is not appropriate to make the disposition of Art. 136 a blanket one due to vague grounds for discrimination in special legislation, including labor legislation. The obtained results could be used for the improvement of Russian legislation based on theoretical research and the practice of law enforcement.

Purpose: The purpose of this study was to determine the factors influencing strategic responses to external environment by deposit taking SACCOS in Nairobi County: a study of Unaitas Sacco.Methodology: The research adopted case study research design. The target population of the study was 11 directors and 600 employees of Unaitas Sacco. The sample size consisted of 61 (10% of the target population) directors and employees of Unaitas Sacco. Stratified random sampling was used in the study to select the one director and the 60 employees of Unaitas Sacco. The study used primary data. The data collection instruments that were used in this study were the interview guide and questionnaire. The qualitative analysis was done using content analysis. Quantitative data analysis employed descriptive statistics and factor analysis.  Descriptive statistics included frequencies, percentages, means and standard deviation. Results were presented in form of tables and charts. Particular statistics in factor analysis was scale plot and commonalities.Results: The study found that reference to past strategy organization external dependence, consideration of level of risk and Organizational Culture greatly influences the choice of strategic response. In addition managerial competence, organizational structure and control processes, time available and availability of resources also greatly influence the choice of strategic responseUnique contribution to theory, practice and policy: The study recommends that Unaitas to invest more in the latest technology and start agency banking as a strategy of expanding its market share and product differentiation.

Summary The article constitutes a presentation of the results of research devoted to the current trends in crisis PR. The authors of the work made an attempt to diagnose crisis prevention in a cross-section of two dimensions. On the one hand the perspective of business (survey of companies) was presented and on the other hand experts’ opinions (survey of the leaders of public relations agencies) were shown. As a result of analyses a point model of an immune system, which takes into consideration the key instruments of crisis methodology (developed procedures in form of communication management book, dedicated anti-crisis structures in an organization, crisis team with a fixed membership and a system of communication trainings) was designed. Diagnosis of prevention measures of the leaders of Polish business — based on the years 2007–2017 showed major deficiencies in the degree of companies’ preparation for the risk of crisis.

The study finds that on the one hand beekeeping is difficult to implement integrated marketing communications due to more difficult application of communication tools – advertising, personal sales, and sales promotion. On the other hand, they also have less well-represented advertising constants. EU agricultural policy supports the implementation of integrated marketing communications from beekeeping farms through the formation of infrastructure and services, legislation, media environment and bee products with high added value. Beekeeping farms must invest primarily in public relations and direct marketing, and as advertising constants can use regional varieties, breeds, technologies, geographical indications, know-how, certification to a certain standard, as they represent the uniqueness of regional bee products.

The mechanism of public policy in the regulation of public relations is built on the skillful combination of prohibitions of restrictions on the one hand, and laxity and opportunities on the other. But weakening state control may increase the level of risk to relationships. This is most clearly evident in international economic relations, where not only individual States that assume responsibility by becoming parties to conventions, agreements and treaties, but also individuals and entities that do not always support the policy of the State in the practice of implementing signed contracts, are parties. Russia pays special attention to a reasonable combination of the country’s economic interests and common interests within the framework of integration associations. The Russian customs authorities, represented by the Federal Customs Service, are one of the agents of state policy in this regard. The purpose of the activity is not only to administer the revenues from foreign economic activity to the budget, but also to protect the economic interests of the state, the participants of the foreign economic activity, professional intermediaries and individual consumers. Therefore, the development of a comprehensive policy of monitoring and assessment of customs risks will reduce the efforts of customs authorities to prevent possible offenses, and thus protect the interests of participants in foreign trade at any level.

As a first shot, one might say that environmental ethics is concerned distinctively with the moral relations that exist between, on the one hand, human beings and, on the other, the non-human natural environment. But this really is only a first shot. For example, one might be inclined to think that at least some components of the non-human natural environment (non-human animals, plants, species, forests, rivers, ecosystems, or whatever) have independent moral status, that is, are morally considerable in their own right, rather than being of moral interest only to the extent that they contribute to human well-being. If so, then one might be moved to claim that ethical matters involving the environment are best cashed out in terms of the dutes and responsibilities that human beings have to such components. If, however, one is inclined to deny independent moral status to the non-human natural environment or to any of its components, then one might be moved to claim that the ethical matters in question are exhaustively delineated by those moral relations existing between individual human beings, or between groups of human beings, in which the non-human natural environment figures. One key task for the environmental ethicist is to sort out which, if either, of these perspectives is the right one to adopt—as a general position or within particular contexts. I guess I don’t need to tell you that things get pretty complicated pretty quickly.

AbstractNowadays, relationships between nonhuman animals and humans are debated, often in relation to issues associated with the risks they represent for each other. On the one hand, new diseases and accidents indicate that animals are not as innocuous as they were long thought; on the other hand, the now questioned human impact on the natural environment is considered a risk for animals. This research analyzed these contrasting images of animals in the Swiss information media. Of the five main animal figures identified over the last 30 years, this paper focuses on the Undesirable Animal and the Victim Animal. These two figures have existed throughout the observed period; in contrast to Victim Animals, however, who appear fairly infrequently, Undesirable Animals have become more and more common in the last decade, usually in relation to a specific issue (such as the avian flu). This suggests that the media more often convey the dominant anthropocentric relationship to animals, reflecting a preoccupation with the protection of humans against dangerous animals, whereas the protection of animals from humans is considered less important. Recent controversies demonstrate, however, that the frontier between “us” and “them” is regularly renegotiated.

The article is devoted to the study of the features of the social network Instagram as a communication platform for positioning and promoting goods and services, forming a personal brand. The relevance of the study is determined by a number of factors. The decrease in the popularity and effectiveness of traditional advertising tools and public relations, on the one hand, the growing popularity of various social networks as a modern marketing tool, the high level of involvement of the social media audience, the increasing orientation towards visual content while maintaining the importance of SMM text, on the other hand, has turned Instagram into the space of various marketing innovations and an interesting object of study. The author considers the main forms of information transmission offered by Instagram (post-publications, stories, live broadcasts, IGTV format), as well as the main types of positioning content, which ensures high audience engagement and the effectiveness of selling texts. Special attention is paid to the role of visual content. The advantages of non-verbal presentation of information, the specifics of interaction with the verbal component of the SMM text are considered. The material for the study was the polycode texts of a successfully developing, offering a variety of selling content for the Instagram account of the clothing brand 12Storeez (publications from 2019-2020 were considered). As a result of the analysis, the author identifies the main features of the modern SMM text, forms and functions of the most common types of content.

The article reveals the phenomenon of frontier mentality and its syncretic features and marginal character. Being the birth of the border (frontier), this type of mentality is a complex construct, a specific ideological and psychological formation, the problems of which, on the one hand, are determined by social, geographical, historical and other factors, and on the other hand, are exposed to the external environment and embedded in various spheres of human existence. Among Russian emigrants who were carriers of the Russian logocentric culture, creativity becomes one of the main such spheres, especially literary one. Through the word, not only individual personality features of the authors were recorded, but also common tendencies of frontier mentality and the mentality of this historical period. The author, using the example of literary ethnography, makes an attempt to distinguish these features and the main trends in the mentality of Russian emigrants in China.

This paper investigates the effects of a US economic policy uncertainty shock on Indian macroeconomic variables with a number of Structural VARs. This study models the economic policy uncertainty index as constructed by Baker et al. (2013). The study also uses a set of macroeconomic variables for India such as inflation, industrial production and nominal interest rate. The objective of the study is to identify the potential impacts of economic policy uncertainty shocks from the US economy to the Indian economy. According to the SVARs, a one standard deviation shock to the US economic policy uncertainty leads to a statistically significant decline in the Indian industrial production of -0.294% and in the Indian inflation of -0.032%. India shows to be resistant to US policy uncertainty. Furthermore, the study finds that the contribution of the US economic policy uncertainty on the Indian macroeconomic variables is shown to be significantly larger than the one exerted by the Indian uncertainty shock.
