This chapter introduces the longest surviving living Buddhist tradition in the world. It outlines specific features of historical developments of the Sri Lankan Theravada Buddhist heritage. Dramatic historical and contemporary adaptations, made in response to the realities of political and social changes, are discussed by taking into account vernacular sources and archaeological research. A wide range of doctrinal and sociopolitical perspectives, along with Buddhist beliefs and practices, is examined by considering the incorporation of Hindu deities and Mahayana cultural elements. It notes European/Western encounters that produced radical developments in lifestyle and Buddhist ideology. The impact of civil war is briefly discussed, along with Marxist political groups such as the Janatha Vimukti Peramuna (JVP). Contemporary political and renewal movements within the tradition, such as the Jathika Hela Urumaya (JHU) and the Bodu Bala Sena, are investigated on the basis of primary sources. Challenges that living traditions face in the face of modernity, globalization, and secularism are examined by highlighting that Buddhism still inspires and guides for human flourishing.

Lymphoedema is a disorder of the lymphatic system that presents as an atypical swelling and accumulation of protein-rich fluid within the interstitial spaces. Head and neck lymphoedema (HNL) is highly prevalent in patients who have been treated for head and neck cancer (HNC) and may manifest externally on the face and neck; internally within the oral cavity, pharynx or larynx; or as a combination of both. HNL is known to contribute to a wide range of physical, functional and psychological issues, and presents several unique challenges in terms of its management. This review article provides an overview of HNL for clinicians and aims to improve awareness of this condition and the impact it has on patients.

The Impact

Diagnosis and treatment of Hodgkin’s lymphoma introduce a new routine, and the habitual life of the young adult is interrupted because the treatment imposes on patients withdrawing from their environment, their productive activities, their relatives and their daily life. The aim of the present is study is to understand the reality of the young adult carrier of Hodgkin’s lymphoma in the face of treatment. This is a qualitative study; subjects were patients diagnosed with Hodgkin’s lymphoma at a reference hospital in northeastern Brazil. Inclusion criteria were being undergoing treatment or follow-up of Hodgkin’s lymphoma, and aged 18 to 35 years. The information was collected through an interview at the home of each subject in the period from August and September 2015. The interviews were recorded, transcribed in full and analyzed through thematic analysis. The study was approved by the Research Ethics Committee. The subjects went through a rather individual pathway to discover the disease. After reading the interviews, the following category emerged: Impact and changes in life with cancer. They feel the impact of cancer and of the process of illness and treatment that promote physical and social changes. They reveal the coping of the disease with liveliness, and present strategies for this process, such as the support of family and friends. They recognize the existence of difficult moments and face situations of death, but they show intention to return to their daily activities and have perspectives for cure.

 O presente trabalho tem a finalidade de mostrar a urgência na resolução dos problemas contextualizados sobre a homossexualidade e a homofobia na adolescência. Uma visão da perspectiva social e familiar do adolescente homossexual e que, de alguma maneira passou ou passa por situações homofóbicas decorrentes de sua escolha e orientação sexual. No cenário brasileiro atual, nos deparamos com inúmeras violências vividas e sofridas por diferentes grupos que compreendem a diversidade sexual. Esses fatos causam mudanças sociais que impactam, sobretudo, na vida dos adolescentes que definiram sua orientação sexual no âmbito familiar e social. Nesse artigo serão expostas o conceito de homossexualidade e homofobia, o princípio da proteção e os conflitos vividos face a discriminação que perduram em tempos atuais diante deste grupo. Muitas são as mudanças que protegem e amparam as vítimas de homofobia, entretanto, ainda podemos notar alguns aspectos negativos e que existem a milhares de anos dificultando todo o processo de aceitação e identidade da homossexualidade. Faz-se necessário, a correta abordagem do tema, no que concerne o respeito, a tolerância e os direitos dos adolescentes que fazem parte da diversidade sexual. Neste contexto, o trabalho foi construído a partir de pesquisas bibliográficas.---The present work has the purpose of showing the urgency in solving the contextualized problems on homosexuality and homophobia in adolescence. A view of the social and family perspective of the homosexual adolescent and that, in some way, passed through homophobic situations due to their choice and sexual orientation. In the current Brazilian scenario, we are faced with numerous violence experienced and suffered by different groups that understand sexual diversity. These facts cause social changes that impact, above all, the lives of adolescents who defined their sexual orientation in the family and social environment. In this article will be exposed the concept of homosexuality and homophobia, the principle of protection and the conflicts experienced in the face of discrimination that persist in the present times before this group. Many are the changes that protect and support the victims of homophobia; however, we can still notice some negative aspects that have existed for thousands of years, making the whole process of acceptance and identity of homosexuality difficult. It is necessary, the correct approach of the subject, with respect to the respect, the tolerance and the rights of the adolescents that are part of the sexual diversity. In this context, the work was constructed from bibliographical research.

The article examines the changes in the requirements for the development and implementation of innovations in the process of forming and improving supply chains in the face of increasing economic instability. Economic instability is presented as the most important trend in the modern economy and significant factor forming new requirements for supply chains. This, in turn, involves the improvement of applied technologies and development of new technologies, as well as the search for progressive technical and managerial solutions to meet the interests of a wide range of business entities and consumers of goods and services. A distinctive feature of this study is the fact that economic instability is viewed by the authors through the prism of both economic and non-economic processes having, inter alia, an impact on the economic system, including political, military, environmental, epidemiological and other processes. The article focuses on the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, as well as its impact on logistics solutions, and the specific demands on supply chains. It is substantiated that the introduction of technical and managerial innovations in this area will allow us to take into account the features and consequences of the impact of COVID-19 on the economy and to effectively influence the processes associated with improving supply chains. Thus, it will ensure compliance with the requirements and conditions determined by modern conditions associated with increased economic instability.

Purpose – This paper aims to explore some of the contextual reasons for the failure of key or strategic account management (K/SAM) programmes. It will discuss how organisational context impacts the implementation and effective operation of such programmes in business-to-business markets. The paper looks at the issues affecting K/SAM programmes rather than the management of individual relationships.Organisational context shapes the work environment (Rice 2005, Porter and McGloghlin, 2006): it is comprised of those elements that drive behaviour and facilitate or impede management processes (Goodman and Haisley, 2007). The literature prescribes a wide range of contextual elements conducive to K/SAM processes, but is less expansive on the subject of elements that may cause K/SAM programmes to disappoint. Design/methodology/approach – This work in-progress paper takes an inductive approach to material provided by surveys of K/SAM communities and their discussions in LinkedIn special interest groups or similar forums to develop a model to give structure to the organisational context issues which may be responsible for K/SAM failure. Findings – From an initial reading of the literature, two broad categories of factors were identified as elements of organizational context: what might be called the formal or “hard” elements supporting K/SAM programmes and the “soft”, more informal and partly cultural elements that “moderate” or “intervene” in implementation. A model is developed to illustrate the linkages between organizational elements in K/SAM. Research limitations/implications – Although a pilot study, we believe that valuable insights into KAM failure are provided by the study. The next stage will include a co-operative inquiry approach based on this data, in which participants will actively validate and develop the model by exploring it within their organisations. Practical implications – The paper draws out a number of significant implications for managers. Originality/value – The existing context within which attempts are made to implement K/SAM have received little attention and often are ignored or remain “unspoken”. This paper addresses those important issues.

In the face of ever-increasing globalisation, the question of how to manage project teams efficiently andsuccessfully was never likely to be settled easily. It has been shown that 92% of project team members believe that softskiils are needed in their teamwork, 60% think that soft skill impacts project management, and 83% hold the view thatsoft skill is relevant to the performance of project teams. The research aims to help overseas project managers to obtaingreater insight into the impact of soft skill on project teams and so manage them more effectively. The introduction contextpresents the general concepts of soft skills and project management. Through a wide range of cases and examples ofproject teams, the impact of those skills on project teams will be explored.

Abstract. Methyl hydroperoxide (MHP), one of the most important organic peroxides in the atmosphere, contributes to the tropospheric oxidizing capacity either directly as an oxidant or indirectly as a free radical precursor. In this study we report measurements of MHP from seven field campaigns at urban, suburban and rural sites in China in winter 2007 and summer 2006/2007/2008. MHP was usually present in the order of several hundreds of pptv level, but the average mixing ratios have shown a wide range depending on the season and measuring site. Primary sources and sinks of MHP are investigated to understand the impact of meteorological and chemical parameters on the atmospheric MHP budget. The MHP/(MHP+H2O2) ratio is also presented here to examine different sensitivities of MHP and H2O2 to certain atmospheric processes. The diurnal cycle of MHP/(MHP+H2O2), which is out of phase with the diurnal cycle of both H2O2 and MHP, could imply that MHP production is more sensitive to the ambient NO concentration, while H2O2 is more strongly influenced by the wet deposition and the subsequent aqueous chemistry. It is interesting to note that our observation at urban Beijing site in winter 2007 provides evidence for the occasional transport of MHP-containing air masses from the marine boundary layer to the continent. Highly constrained box model is performed to study the influence of MHP on the free radical cycle. The simulation shows that MHP has a significant impact on the CH3O2 racial budget in the atmosphere. Furthermore, the contribution of MHP as an atmospheric oxidant to the overall tropospheric oxidizing capacity is also assessed based on the "Counter Species" concept.

E-commerce is evolving as an innovative tool in a wide range of areas, and has changed the face of entrepreneurship by making them more efficient and dynamic. In this paper, the author firstly reviewed the current development of e-commerce and entrepreneurship, as well as existing opportunities and challenges in this field. This paper also combines both qualitative method (literature review) and quantitative method (questionnaire-based research) to explore the impact of e-commerce on the landscape of entrepreneurship. The findings of this study suggest that the development of e-commerce has triggered fundamental changes in entrepreneurial activities. It significantly promotes the entry of new start-ups and facilitates the growth of their businesses. Meanwhile, small- and medium-sized firms also encounter greater challenges when they try to adopt and implement e-commerce.

The impact of frictional forces on the overall forces when drilling with a PDC bit has previously been implied by models and by single cutter and bit tests. This report describes new experiments to measure friction between three different bit surface materials and two different rocks over a wide range of normal stresses in up to four different fluids. Polished PDC cutters are shown to have lower frictional forces on the face of the cutter than standard cutters in both water and mineral oil. The measured friction coefficients were generally higher than reported in previous studies.

The aim of the article is to present modern readership habits and the impact of new technologies developmenton them. Those technologies and social changes can also pose a danger or provide support for the development ofreadership; however, the point is how to skilfully make use of them.Readership plays a significant role in modern societies. It is considered not only a socio-cultural tool giving peopleequal chances in life and facilitating dialogue between different cultures, but also an important economic development factor. Nevertheless, the level of readership keeps successively decreasing in developed countries. Poland is not an exception – on the contrary, the level of readership is decreasing faster than in other developed countries.This article is an outline of opportunities and barriers as well of new technologies affecting readership. The relationsbetween those opportunities or barriers and the level of readership are also discussed. The article includesa range of examples of positive solutions from abroad, suitable for introduction in Poland.
