AbstractMillions of women avoid using available contraceptives and risk unintended pregnancies every year, due to perceived and/or real side-effects associated with the use of exogenous hormones. Naturally occurring anti-sperm antibodies can prevent fertilization in immune infertile women by limiting sperm permeation through mucus, particularly multivalent antibodies such as sIgA that offers robust agglutination potencies. Unfortunately, sIgA remains challenging to produce in large quantities and easily aggregates. Here, we designed two tetravalent anti-sperm IgGs with a Fab domain previously isolated from an immune infertile woman. Both constructs possess at least 4-fold greater agglutination potency and induced much more rapid sperm agglutination than the parent IgG while exhibiting comparable production yields and identical thermostability as the parent IgG. These tetravalent IgGs offer promise for non-hormonal contraception and underscore the multimerization of IgG as a promising strategy to improve existing mAb therapeutics.

Maintenance of reproductive health and decision of problem of safe contraception women with excessive weight have the issue of the day of present time and it is confessed by important direction of modern medicine. The objective: to define influence of hormonal contraception on the mucous membrane of neck of uterus for women with surplus mass of body. Patients and methods. In 90 women with excessive weight influence of hormonal contraception is studied on the mucous membrane of neck of uterus. Results. It is set that a modern hormonal contraception does not have a negative influence on the state of mucous membrane of neck of uterus for women with surplus mass of body. Conclusion. Women with excessive weight and can effectively and safely to use a modern hormonal contraception. But it is necessary to carry out a clinical supervision for the step of that additional elucidations are possible about the features of application of hormonal contraception for patients with excessive mass of body. Key words: contraception, overweight, side effects.

The use of dietary supplements (supplementation) is the individual enrichment of the diet with ingredients naturally occurring in food. As a rule, dietary supplements should be used periodically. In nutritional practice, there are many indications for dietary supplementation, but the decision to take dietary supplements should be made by consumers wisely and only in justified situations, when there is a risk that the usual diet does not provide vitamins and minerals in an amount adequate to meet dietary recommendations. However, we should remember about the real dangers of taking too large doses of vitamins and minerals. Many people using dietary supplements, especially several types at the same time, may experience undesirable side effects and deterioration of health, and in addition, people taking medicines may seriously disrupt or weaken the effect of the drug, or even lack the therapeutic effect of the drug. The document presents 10 steps and rules for the use of dietary supplements available on the market, which are addressed to the general population.

The development of cross infections arising from bacteria transmission on frequently touched facilities has led to an urgent need to promptly disinfect these surfaces, such as hand railings, door handles and elevator buttons. Conventional antimicrobial disinfectants are not ideal as they contribute to the growing antimicrobial resistance crisis. In recent years, the discovery that the wings of insects such as the Clanger cicada (Psaltoda claripennis) possess naturally occurring antimicrobial properties has led to a growing interest to synthetically recreate these surfaces. The use of a physical contact killing mechanism on such nanotextured surfaces is a promising strategy for curbing the proliferation of bacteria, as it is unlikely to contribute to the formation of antimicrobial resistance. Here, I highlight the key advantages of using these antimicrobial nanotextured materials and how they could play a role in safeguarding public health security, especially during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

Side effects are the most common reason for the discontinuation of contraceptive methods. Dr Katie Boog summarises the available evidence on how to manage them Although often transient, side effects are the most common reason for individuals to discontinue contraception. The evidence to prove causality is limited, as is evidence-based guidance on how to manage these side effects. This article summarises the available evidence. For individuals who have new or worsening acne on progestogen-only contraception (POC), switching to combined hormonal contraception (CHC) is likely to improve their skin. Continuous or extended CHC use may be beneficial for individuals with premenstrual mood change, and for those who experience headaches in the hormone-free interval. Unpredictable bleeding patterns on POC are common. Injectable users can try reducing the interval between injections to 10 weeks. Implant, injectable or intrauterine system users can be offered a 3-month trial of a combined oral contraceptive pill (COC). CHC and POP users with unpredictable bleeding may benefit from switching to an alternative preparation.

Aim: The naturally occurring dipeptide carnosine (CAR) has been considered for glioblastoma therapy. As CAR also protects against ionizing irradiation (IR), we investigated whether it may counteract standard therapy consisting of postsurgery IR and treatment with temozolomide (TMZ). Materials & methods: Four isocitrate dehydrogenase-wildtype primary cell cultures were exposed to different doses of IR and different concentrations of TMZ and CAR. After exposure, viability under the different conditions and combinations of them was determined. Results: All cultures responded to treatment with TMZ and IR with reduced viability. CAR further decreased viability when TMZ and IR were combined. Conclusion: Treatment with CAR does not counteract glioblastoma standard therapy. As the dipeptide also protects nontumor cells from IR, it may reduce deleterious side effects of treatment.

The prevalence of fungal infections is growing at an alarming pace and the pathogenesis is still not clearly understood. Recurrence of these fungal diseases is often due to their evolutionary avoidance of antifungal resistance. The development of suitable novel antimicrobial agents for fungal diseases continues to be a major problem in the current clinical field. Hence, it is urgently necessary to develop surrogate agents that are more effective than conventional available drugs. Among the remarkable innovations from earlier investigations on natural-drugs, flavonoids are a group of plant-derived substances capable of promoting many valuable effects on humans. The identification of flavonoids with possible antifungal effects at small concentrations or in synergistic combinations could help to overcome this problem. A combination of flavonoids with available drugs is an excellent approach to reduce the side effects and toxicity. This review focuses on various naturally occurring flavonoids and their antifungal activities, modes of action, and synergetic use in combination with conventional drugs.

The epitope structure of the human sperm antigen reacting with antibodies present in sera of infertile women has been studied using mAb H6-3C4, which produces immobilization of human sperm in the presence of complement. Another antibody, NUH2, which also induces human sperm immobilization, was used to substantiate the presence of a receptor on sperm involved in susceptibility to immobilization. Both antibodies defined type 2 chain polylactosamine structure. H6-3C4 is directed to internally located repetitive N-acetyllactosamine, i.e., sialyl-i, i, or fucosyl-i. NUH2 defines binary alpha 2----3 sialyl type 2 chain, i.e., sialyl-I. Thus, the presence of antibodies in the sera of infertile women directed to sperm lactosaminoglycan or lactosaminolipid could be the basis for infertility in these cases.
