AbstractManually collecting landmark data on a large biological sample takes a long time. Several options exist to speed data collection, though each strategy introduces problems or raises concerns of its own. For bilaterally symmetric structures (e.g., crania), some recent papers recommend limiting landmark collection to one side and the midline, then “mirror-reflecting” landmarks across the midline to produce an approximation of the true bilateral configuration. However, where the midline is narrow relative to the bilateral anatomy, net midline landmark deviations from the mid-sagittal axis or plane will distort the mirror-reflected configuration. Here, I test whether this is a substantive concern at the scale of real biology. To do so, I simulate small amounts of mediolateral error on the mean shape from a sample of human mandibles (n = 178), then compare the distribution of simulated forms to variation in the data. I also test how faithfully mirror-reflected configurations replicate bilateral shape and size relationships. In both analyses, midline deviations from symmetry create striking distortions. I go on to show that incorporating a small number of landmarks from the opposite side of the mandible produces far more accurate estimates of bilateral shape than does mirror reflection. Mirror reflection is clearly inappropriate for these data and is likely suspect in all cases of narrow midline morphology.

Indigenous African societies have, for a long time, been using their knowledge for the betterment of their lives. They have also demonstrated an ability to manipulate their immediate or remote surroundings to live sustainably. Those who claim to fight for equal and human rights in Africa do so under the misconception that they, and the developing world, have historically and inherently violated, and continue to violate, human rights in numerous ways. While this might not be completely dismissed, there is a plethora of evidence from African folktales to demonstrate that Africans have not only respected human rights, but have also encouraged equal opportunities for every member of their society. This article cross-examines Ndebele folktales with the intention of demonstrating that African indigenous knowledge exhibited through folktales was a well-organised system, which ensured respect for human rights for all members, regardless of their physical or social stature. Central to this discussion are the folktales which focus on the role played by the vulnerable members of the animal community, who replicate their human counterparts. Folktales are unarguably a creation by the indigenes and emanate from their socio-political experiences, as well as their observations of the surroundings. This suggests that indigenous people already had an idea about human rights as well as the need for equal opportunities since time immemorial.

Social movement is an effort to provide benefits to others. However, within the context of cultivating the character, research on social movement through socio-drama based on local wisdom is very limited. This study aims to examine the increasing character of nationalism through social movements in the form of socio-drama. Research subjects were elementary and secondary students residing in rural area. This research used qualitative and descriptive method. Data collection techniques were documentations, observations, and interviews. The results showed that the increased character of nationalism only arise when playing socio-drama only, they would return to the previous character. Cultivating the character values need a long time, so the change of character did not necessarily happen.

The king in the Hindu-Buddhist era had such a big role for his people. The ideal king is needed by the people so that the country becomes prosperous. The concept of an ideal king has been known for a long time in the archipelago, even since before Hindu-Buddhist culture developed. In Java and Bali the ideal king is described in the Astabrata Concept. The concept of an ideal king in Srivijaya has never been discussed by researchers, even though Srivijaya was one of the ruling kingdoms in Indonesia during the early Hindu-Buddhist era. This study discusses about concept of the ideal king that developed in Srivijaya based on written data in the form of inscriptions scattered in several conquered Srivijaya areas. The concept of the ideal king of Srivijaya needs to be known to reconstruct how much acceptance of Hindu-Buddhist culture in Indonesia, especially during the Srivijaya era. In answering these problems, research was conducted with archeological methods, which consisted of data collection, analysis and interpretation. Based on this research, it can be seen that the concept of the ideal king of Srivijaya was much influenced by Buddhism, especially the Vajrayana school. The king in Srivijaya depicted as an excellent person, born as a man, diplomat and wealthy.

Despite significant progress in conformational analysis of cyclic molecules, the number of computational studies is still limited while most of that available in the literature data have been obtained long time ago with outdated methods. In present research, we have studied temperature driven conformational changes of the furan ring at three different temperatures. Additionally, the effect of deuteration on the ring dynamics is discussed; in addition, the aromaticity indices following the Bird and HOMA schemes are computed along all trajectories. Our ab initio molecular dynamic simulations revealed that deuteration has changed the furan ring dynamics and the obvious consequences; in addition, the shape and size of molecule are expected to be different.

In this work we performed a comparison between two different approaches to track a person in indoor environments using a locating system based on BLE technology with a smartphone and a smartwatch as monitoring devices. To do so, we provide the system architecture we designed and describe how the different elements of the proposed system interact with each other. Moreover, we have evaluated the system’s performance by computing the mean percentage error in the detection of the indoor position. Finally, we present a novel location prediction system based on neural embeddings, and a soft-attention mechanism, which is able to predict user’s next location with 67% accuracy.

AbstractA long-time direct numerical simulation (DNS) based on the lattice Boltzmann method is carried out for grid turbulence with the view to compare spatially averaged statistical properties in planes perpendicular to the mean flow with their temporal counterparts. The results show that the two averages become equal a short distance downstream of the grid. This equality indicates that the flow has become homogeneous in a plane perpendicular to the mean flow. This is an important result, since it confirms that hot-wire measurements are appropriate for testing theoretical results based on spatially averaged statistics. It is equally important in the context of DNS of grid turbulence, since it justifies the use of spatial averaging along a lateral direction and over several realizations for determining various statistical properties. Finally, the very good agreement between temporal and spatial averages validates the comparison between temporal (experiments) and spatial (DNS) statistical properties. The results are also interesting because, since the flow is stationary in time and spatially homogeneous along lateral directions, the equality between the two types of averaging provides strong support for the ergodic hypothesis in grid turbulence in planes perpendicular to the mean flow.

Zone construction has been proposed as the way for the U.S. shipbuilding industry to improve its productivity and survive the current hard times. Obviously as the production requirements for zone construction are different from traditional ship construction, so are the engineering requirements. While production could perform zone construction from traditionally prepared engineering, it would do so inefficiently and after waiting a long time for most of the engineering to be completed before they could start, thus defeating one of the goals of zone construction. The production department in a shipyard changing to zone construction will probably reorganize into major zone sections. To obtain maximum benefits from zone construction it is necessary for the engineering department to be like-organized and managed. The paper therefore discusses engineering aspects that are influenced by the change to zone construction

The purpose of this study was to obtain data on the implementation of the 2013 curriculum, whether it has been implemented well enough and has been applied for a long time at Al-Jamilah Sei Mati Private MTs Padang Tualang by involving students actively in learning and applying various learning methods. Teachers always try to innovate in managing learning by applying interesting methods and positioning themselves as facilitators according to the mandate of the 2013 curriculum. The principle of learning is to humanize humans (humanism), by nurturing children to grow cognitive, affective, psychomotor, life skills. social and spiritual. This research uses research with qualitative data approach in the data collection process and is described by describing the data obtained at the research location to the conclusion. As for the results of the research on educating with the ngemong system which is a form of guidance carried out by teachers to their students which is applied in madrasas. The students' ability to learn aqidah akhlaq has improved quite well with the implementation of the 2013 Curriculum, which can be seen from the active role of students when learning and student involvement during class discussions. Students' understanding of learning also increases which can be seen from the fairly good student scores and the application of religious values ​​that have been studied, especially in students of aqidah akhlaq. Students show good morals in the Madrasa environment both to teachers and to fellow friends.

Milk is routinely tested for proper pasteurization. The Scharer and Fluorophos methods, among others, test for residual alkaline phosphatase (ALP) activity to assure proper pasteurization. Until recently there were no tests available to accurately detect residual ALP activity levels below the U.S. legal limit of 1 μg of phenol or 350 mU of ALP per liter of milk. The new Fluorophos method can detect accurately residual ALP activity levels as low as 10 mU/liter. The Fluorophos method was used to investigate residual ALP activity levels in several fluid milk products. The milk products were thermally processed under various time and temperature protocols below, at, and above current U.S. Food and Drug Administration-mandated heat treatments for fluid milk and milk products. The data established values for residual ALP activity in milks pasteurized under high-temperature short-time (HTST) and low-temperature long-time (LTLT) treatments. The mean ALP activities for whole, 2% lowfat, 1% lowfat, skim, half and half, and chocolate-flavored milks thermally processed at the legal minimum HTST pasteurization treatment are 169.7 ± 12.3, 145.2 ± 9.3, 98.6 ± 8.9, 72.5 ± 4.2, 38.4 ± 4.6 and 157.3 ± 6.5 mU/liter, respectively. The mean ALP activities generated at the legal minimum LTLT pasteurization treatment are 81.8 ± 4.8, 66.4 ± 5.9, 56.4 ± 2.1, 39.1 ± 3.9, 35.0 ± 1.2 and 91.3 ± 7.7 mU/liter, respectively. The values for all milks pasteurized at the legal minimum heat treatment were significantly below the current legal cutoff for residual ALP activity of 350 mU/liter of milk or milk product.
