Despite efforts to improve digital access in schools, a persistent digital divide is identified worldwide. Drawing on data from the 2018 Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) Programme for International Student Assessment (PISA) for 15-year-olds, I examine how students’ digital use for educational purposes (at school and at home) and their perceived digital competence differ between schools by socioeconomic status (SES) and vary across 47 countries. Using multilevel modeling, I find that the second-level digital divide between schools exists even among more developed societies. Students attending high-SES schools are more likely to use computers for schoolwork within and outside of schools, and have more digital competence than those attending low-SES schools. These differences remain substantial and statistically significant even when controlling for school-level resources. Moreover, the between-school digital divide in students’ digital competence is negatively associated with economic development and educational expenditures, and positively associated with income inequality. In conclusion, I discuss implications of the findings and highlight the importance of examining how schools with varying socioeconomic profiles provide different e-learning experiences for individual students, explained by the different institutional settings and cultural features of schools.

This study aimed to portray how a school culture contributed to the learner success factors in e-learning in the middle school level. The ethnographic case study design was applied to explore the school culture and the e-learning success factors more deeply and holistically. The data were collected through observations and in-depth interviews. The cross-case analysis was used to interpret the data. The subjects of the study were four students who won in the national e-learning competition and the setting of the institution was in SMP Tentara Genie Pelajar (TGP) in Malang. The fundamental finding of the study, that might not be found in other research, was that the high-academic performance culture of this school gave an indirect contribution to the students’ e-learning success factors, such as the students’ motivation, the students’ e-learning self-efficacy, the students’ prior knowledge on the e-learning technical competency, and the students’ interaction and collaboration. This study gave a big implication because an ethnographic case study on the e-learning critical success factors might be never done in Indonesia before.

With the advent of technology, electronic learning (e-learning) has become a key aspect of distance learning, making it easier, faster, and more global. With e-learning, teachers have found it easy to deliver education, while students have found new opportunities to learn. There have been several advances to e-learning as a resource for distance learning, with its major features being the use of electronic mediums to facilitate learning. This study is the first of its kind in Iraq that aims to explore the instructional needs of teachers with regards to e-learning for computer science at the secondary school level in Iraq. The study aims to identify the perceptions of secondary school teachers of computer science towards the use of e- learning methods and to also investigate the training needs of teachers for the use of e-learning for teaching of computer science in Iraq. Results indicated that e-learning resources available in the schools surveyed are not enough and the teachers are not making adequate use of e-learning resources. Also, while teachers were aware of the efficiency of e-learning for pedagogy, the schools do not have adequate support mechanisms in place. Teachers were also aware of the competitive edge that e-learning offers them, but did not have adequate training to enable them to use it effectively. Therefore, authorities have to establish a training plan to get teachers comfortable with technology. Such training should start with the basics of e-learning, so that teachers with no knowledge of technology can be carried along.

Abstract. The advent of the smartphones brought with them higher processing capabilities and improved camera specifications which boosted the applications of mobile-based imagery in a range of domains. One of them is the 3-D reconstruction of objects by means of photogrammetry, which now enjoys great popularity. This fact brings potential opportunities to develop educational procedures in high schools using smartphone-based 3-D scanning techniques. On this basis, we designed a Project Based e-Learning (PBeL) initiative to introduce secondary students to the disciplines of photogrammetry through the use of their mobile phones in an attractive and challenging way for them. The paper describes the motivation behind the project "D3MOBILE Metrology World League”, supported by ISPRS as part of the "Educational and Capacity Building Initiative 2020" programme. With this Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) initiative, we implement a methodology with the format of an international competition, that can be adapted to daily classwork at the high school level anywhere in the world. Therefore, the championship is essentially structured around a collection of well-thought-out e-learning materials (text guidelines, video tutorials, proposed exercises, etc.), providing a more flexible access to content and instruction at any time and from any place. The methodology allows students to gain spatial skills and to practice other transversal abilities, learn the basics of photogrammetric techniques and workflows, gain experience in the 3-D modelling of simple objects and practice a range of techniques related to the science of measurement.
