An experiment to study influence of nitrogen (N) and potassium (K) on new rice varieties MR 269 and MR 284 has been carried out in Parit 12 Sungai Nibong, Sekinchan, 45400, Sabak Bernam, Selangor from February 2012 to January 2013. Compatibility tests need to be carried out on current fertilizer recommendation towards these new rice varieties. There are three rates used in this experiment which are 0, 100 and 200 kg/ha for both N and K fertilizer. The experimental design used in this experiment is Randomized Complete Block Design (RCBD) with 3 replications. A set of 54 small plots were erected with 4 m x 4 m in size. Manual Teknologi Penanaman Padi Lestari is used as crop management guideline for this experiment. Results indicated no significant interaction between N and K on yield of the newly tested rice varieties. The rice yield was significantly affected by N but not by K. Results suggest that there is significant interaction between cropping season and N towards rice yield. Analysis showed that fertilizer application of N up to 200 kg/ha contributed to higher yield in first season (Off-season). However, yield increment in season 2 (main season) only took place up until N fertilizer application at 100 kg/ha and began to drop when subsequent additional of 200 kg/ha. This study indicated that number of panicle and number of seed per panicle had positive influence to the rice yield.

This study was conducted in Waelo Village, Waeapo Subdistrict, Buru District, with the objectives to determine N fertilizer application timing to increase rice yield and to understand the response of two rice varieties commonly grown in Waeapo. The experimental method used in this study was a Randomized Complete Block Design, with several fertilization treatments (NPK, NK,NP, PK and control), and rice varieties (Membramo and Mekongga), and with three replications. The results showed that administration of N fertilizer (NP, NK, NPK) gave significant effects on plant height, leaf color, full grain number per panicle, 1000 grain weight, dry grain yield, soil N content and leaf N content;  meanwhile it did not affect soil reaction (pH). A low rice yield was obtained in the treatment without N fertilizer, with 2.50 kg dry grain yield per plot and PK treatment with 2.78 kg  dry grain yield per plot.

A study was conducted to determine the optimum rates of N, P, K fertilizers on “IPB 9G” upland rice variety from March to July 2018 at the Sawah Baru Experimental Field of IPB University, West Java, Indonesia. Three paralel experiments were carried out in a randomized complete block design to test five fertilizing levels, i.e. 0, 50, 100, 150 and 200% of the reference rate. The reference rates of fertilizer application are 100% N = 200 kg Urea ha-1, 100% P = 100 kg SP36 ha-1, and 100% K = 100 kg KCl ha-1. The applied fertilizers were Urea (46% N), SP36 (36% P2O5) and KCl (60% K2O). Fertilizers were applied three times, 40% at planting, 30% at 4 WAP and the rest 30% at 8 WAP; 100% P and 100% K were applied at planting. Increasing N fertilizer from 0 to 200% of the reference rate increased plant height, dry weight biomass at heading and at harvest, number of productive tillers, harvest index, and grain weight per clump. P increased dry weight of the above ground biomass, whereas K fertilizer increased the leaf area, canopy dry weight, number of grain per panicle, panicle length, harvest index and grain weight per clump. The optimum rate of N and P were 107.09 kg Urea ha-1 and 63.3 kg P2O5 kg.ha-1, respectively, whereas the optimal rate for K fertilizer for “IPB 9G” could not be determined with this study.

Chống đổ ngã và tăng số lượng chồi cho cây lúa là cách mà nông dân sử dụng Paclobutrazol (PBZ) lâu nay. Đề tài được thực hiện với các mục tiêu: (i) điều tra sử dụng PBZ của nông dân trên cây lúa, (ii) đánh giá mức độ tồn dư PBZ trong đất (iii) đánh giá hấp thụ PBZ từ đất vào trong cây lúa.Thí nghiệm được bố trí theo phương pháp khối hoàn toàn ngẫu nhiên gồm bốn nghiệm thức (T1: Đối chứng: 0 kg PBZ  ha-1, T2: 1,0 kg PBZ  ha-1, T3: 1,5 kg PBZ ha-1, T4: 3,0 kg PBZ ha-1) với bốn lần lặp lại. Kết quả điều tra nông dân đã sử dụng PBZ, kết hợp với phân bón để bón vào hai giai đoạn lúa 20 đến 25 ngày sau sạ (NSS) và 40 đến 45 NSS, với liều lượng trung bình 1,55 kg ha-1. Xử lý PBZ ở nghiệm thức T2 và T3 giúp giảm chiều cao cây lúa, tăng số chồi trên đơn vị diện tích nhưng không làm tăng năng suất lúa. Các nghiệm thức xử lý đều để lại tồn lưu PBZ trên thân (T1: 60 µg, T2: 2.220 µg, T3: 1.090 µg, T4: 34 µg) và trên hạt lúa (T1: 104 µg, T2: 550 µg, T3: 110 µg, T4: 0 µg) và trong đất sau thí nghiệm (T1: 16,3 µg, T2: 24,0 µg, T3: 9,90 µg, T4: 6,60 µg). ABSTRACT Lodging resistance and increasing the quantity of tillers for rice are that Paclobutrazol (PBZ) has been used by farmers for a long time. The study was conducted to aim at: (i) investigating farmers' habits of using Paclobutrazole on rice, (2) evaluating PBZ residues in soil and (3) evaluating PBZ absorption ability from soil into rice. The experiment was conducted in randomized complete block design (RCBD) with four treatments (T1: 1,5 kg PBZ / ha, T2: 3,0 kg PBZ/ ha, T3: 1,0 kg PBZ /ha, T4: 0 kg PBZ /ha) and four replications. The investigated results of farmers showed that PBZ has been used for a long time, PBZ was used by farmers in combination with fertilizer application into two stages of 20 to 25 days after seeding (DAS) and 40 to 45 DAS (63,3 %), an average dosage was 1,55kg/ ha. The results showed that T2 and T3 treatments were effective to reduce the height of rice plants, increase the number of shoots per unit area but did not increase rice yield. PBZ treatments  had residue in leaf stalks (T1: 60 µg, T2: 2.220 µg, T3: 1.090 µg, T4: 34 µg), rice seeds (T1: 104 µg, T2: 550 µg, T3: 110 µg, T4: 0 µg), and soil after harvesting rice (T1: 16,3 µg, T2: 24,0 µg, T3: 9,90 µg, T4: 6,60 µg).

Yam (Dioscorea spp.) is a valuable food security crop in West Africa, where 92% of the world production occurs. The availability of quality seed tubers for increased productivity is a major challenge. In this study, minitubers weighing 1, 3, and 5 g produced from virus-free single-node vine cuttings of two improved yam varieties (Asiedu and Kpamyo) growing in an aeroponics system were assessed for suitability in seed production at a population of 100,000 plants ha−1. A 3 × 2 factorial experiment with randomized complete block design and three replications was set up during the cropping seasons of 2017 to 2019 at the International Institute of Tropical Agriculture Research Station in Kubwa, Abuja, Nigeria. Results showed field establishments of 87%–97.8%. Yields differed with minituber size, variety, and cropping season; the highest was 31.2 t ha−1 in 2019 and the lowest, 10 t ha−1 in 2018 from 5 and 1 g Kpamyo minitubers, respectively. The estimated number of tubers produced per hectare by 1, 3, and 5 g minitubers was 101,296, 112,592, and 130,555, with mean weights per stand of 159.2, 187.3, and 249.4 g, respectively. We recommend using less than 6 g minitubers for seed yam production due to their high multiplication rates.

AbstractBread wheat (Triticum aestivum L.) is one of the most important cereal crops in Ethiopia. The productivity of wheat is markedly constrained by nutrient depletion and inadequate fertilizer application. The experiment was conducted to study the effect of nitrogen (N) and potassium (K) fertilizer rates on growth, yield, nutrient uptake and use efficiency during 2019 cropping season on Kedida Gamela Woreda, Kembata Tembaro Zone Southern Ethiopia. Factorial combinations of four rates of N (0, 23, 46 and 69 kg Nha−1) and three rates of K2O (0, 30 and 60 kg Nha−1) in the form of urea (46–0-0) and murate of potash (KCl) (0-0-60) respectively, were laid out in a randomized complete block design with three replications. The results showed that most parameters viz yield, yield components, N uptake and use efficiency revealed significant differences (P < 0.05) due to interaction effects of N and K. Fertilizer application at the rate of 46 N and 30 kg K ha−1 resulted in high grain yield of 4392 kg ha− 1 and the lowest 1041 from control. The highest agronomic efficiency of N (52.5) obtained from the application of 46 kg N ha−1. Maximum physiological efficiency of N (86.6 kg kg−1) and use efficiency of K (58.6%) was recorded from the interaction of 46 and 30 kg K ha−1. Hence, it could be concluded that applying 46 and 30 kg K ha−1was resulted in high grain yield and economic return to wheat growing farmers of the area. Yet, in order to draw sound conclusion, repeating the experiment in over seasons and locations is recommended.

ABSTRACT: In the last few cropping seasons, some soybean producers have tested the application of a hill drop sowing method, usually from three to four seeds every 30 to 40cm. However, there is a lack of information in the literature about the effect of this practice on soybean performance. Thus, the objective of this study was to evaluate the effect of a hill drop sowing with different number of plants per hole on soybean performance. The study was conducted in Londrina - PR, Brazil, during the 2013/14, 2014/15 and 2016/17 cropping seasons. The experiment was a randomized complete block design with four replications and a 2x5 factorial scheme. The first factor consisted of two soybean cultivars, BRS 359RR and NK 7059RR analyzed in the first two cropping seasons and BRS 359RR and BRS 1010IPRO in the last cropping season. The second factor was constituted by five in-hill hole-spacing treatments (HS) (8, 16, 24, 32 and 40cm), with rows spaced 50cm apart. To maintain the same plant density in all treatments (270,000 plants ha-1), sowing was performed manually, being then thinned out. After thinning, the distribution was one plant per hole at HS8, 2 plants at HS16, 3 plants at HS24, 4 plants at HS32, and 5 plants at HS40. The agronomic performance of soybean in hill drop sowing with different number of plants per hole is similar to that of an equidistant distribution of plants.

Boro rice (grown in winter under irrigated condition) contributes to the major portion of rice production (over 50%) in Bangladesh. Binadhan-17 is a green super rice developed by BINA which requires 30% less nitrogenous fertilizer and water which is grown in aman season (primely produced under rainfed). Due to it’s increasing popularity and adoption rice growers are keen to cultivate it in boro season also. Taking account of the above situation, two field trials were conducted at Magura during November 2019 to May 2020 to investigate the effect of variety, sowing dates and their interaction. Factorial RCBD (Randomized Complete Block Design) was applied for experimentation. Two rice varieties: Binadhan-17 (V1), BRRI dhan58 (V2) and three sowing times: 30th November (T1), 10th December (T2), 20th December (T3) were used as treatments. 35 days old seedlings were transplanted in main field. Relevant agronomic and morphological data were statistically analyzed through Statistix 10.0. Combined effect of the above factors at farm exposed that, T1×V1 required longest days (159.33 days) to mature. but, comparatively short life cycle (149.97 days) was observed by T3×V2. Maximum grain was yielded (7.70 t/ha) by T2×V1 and minimum (5.74 t/ha) by T1×V1 treatment combination. Outcomes of on station revealed that, T1×V1 needed more days (158.00 days) to mature; conversely, alike duration was noted with T2×V2 (147.20 days) and T3×V2 (145.43 days) which matured quite earlier. T2×V1 produced the highest grain yield (7.41 t/ha) and T1×V2 the lowest (5.94 t/ha). Our results indicate that, planting of Binadhan-17 on 10th December may give insect-disease free grains with optimum yield in context of Magura region. Farmers will be financially benefited if they cultivate this variety in the boro season in lieu of aman; due to higher yield

New superior varieties (VUB) are a reliable technological innovation to increase rice productivity. This study aims to determine the yield potential of some lowland rice VUB. The assessment was carried out on land owned by a member of the Sumber Rejeki Farmer Group, Cintaratu Village, Lakbok District, Ciamis Regency at Dry Season II in June-September 2020. The study used a randomized complete block design (RCBD) with six varieties of treatment and was repeated ten times. The varieties tested were Inpari 32, Inpari 42, Padjadjaran, Cakrabuana, Inpari IR Nutrizinc, and Siliwangi varieties. The variables observed included the growth component, yield component, and yield component. Data were analyzed using the F test followedby the Duncan Multiple Range Test at the Q=5% level. In addition, a correlation test was conducted between the growth components, yield components, and yields. The results of the study indicated that the new superior rice varieties studied had different performance in growth, number of tillers, yield, and yield components. Inpari 42 variety produced the highest productivity, namely 6.88 ton ha-1 which was supported by the number of grains per panicle, percentage of filled grains per panicle, and percentage of empty grain per panicle which were better than other varieties. Plant height and number of grains per panicle were positively correlated with yield.

Fertilization would be soil fertilization or foliar feeding through leaf area. Plant growth promoting substances also improve plant performance through modulation of its growth and yield. The study was conducted at BRAC Agricultural Research and Development Center (BARDC), Gazipur. The aim of the study was to find out the growth and yield of Boro rice as influenced by plant revitalization hormone (PRH) and liquid fertilizer Calsol and Magic Growth during dry season 2012-13 using randomized complete block design with three replications. Treatment consists of; T1=Recommend fertilizer dose of NPKS and Zn (Control), T2=T1+ recommended PRH, T3=T2 + half of the PRH, T4=Half of doses of T1 + PRH, T5=PRH, T6=Recommended fertilizer dose of NPK with three N top dressed along with Calsol, T7=Recommended fertilizer dose of NPK with 1st and 3rd split of N application and along with three split of Calsol application, T8=Recommended dose of liquid fertilizer Magic Growth. The effect of different treatment combinations of PRH and liquid fertilizer Calsol and Magic Growth showed significant difference (p<0.05) in panicle m-2, unfilled grain panicle-1, total grain panicle-1, and grain yield. However, none of the treatments out yielded the existing fertilizer application method. An experiment was conducted at the Agronomy Field of Patuakhali Science and Technology University, Dumki, Patuakhali from June to December, 2013 to find out the effect of variety and planting density on the yield and yield attributing characters of local aromatic rice. The experiment was laid out in a factorial randomized complete block design with three replications, which consisted of three local aromatic rice varieties (Chinigura, Shakhorkhora and Kalizira) and four planting densities were viz. S1 (25 cm × 20 cm), S2 (20 cm × 20 cm), S3 (20 cm × 15 cm) and S4 (20 cm × 10 cm). The results revealed that the local aromatic rice var. Shakhorkhora variety produced the highest number of grains per panicle (131) and 1000-grain weight (13.8 g), consequently higher grain (2.63 t ha-1), followed by Kalizira (2.56 t ha-1) and straw yield (4.21 t ha-1). One the other hand, higher number of tillers per hill (14.8), number of grains per panicle (140 nos.) were found in 20 cm × 20 cm spacing with higher grain yield.Bangladesh J. Agril.
