This paper aims at analyzing current situation in Entikong as a border region of Indonesia-Malaysia. Economically, this region is dominated by agricultural sectors and mostly harvested valuable commodities were traded in border by farmers from Entikong. This study employed a phenomenological qualitative approach for describing problems faced by farmers and the efforts related to farmers’ household empowerment for improving their quality of life. The data were collected through observation, interview, and documentation, and it was analyzed by using the steps of verification and triangulation, data reduction, data display, and conclusion drawing. The findings revealed that main problems are related to the insufficiency of socio-economic infrastructures for improving value added for agricultural products, such as the limitation of roads infrastructure and far distance of market make farmers unwilling to sell their harvested products because of high distribution expenses. Farmers empowerment done by government and NGO were directed to improve their knowledge and skills related to plantation and agricultural activities. Moreover, it needs socio-economic institutional strengthening and participation from farmers’ community as well.

The tourism industry requires that increasing attention be paid not only to the quality of products and services but also to the quality of the human resources that constitute one of its major assets, since tourism is essentially a people-centered service industry. As such, a high-quality skilled workforce will ensure greater competitiveness and innovation, improved job prospects, repeat tourist visits, and economic growth in South Africa. This study aims to establish how tourism graduates perceived their abilities in terms of knowledge and skills and how the tourism industry evaluated tourism graduates' actual abilities in terms of knowledge and skills within the tourism industry. The researchers adopted a sequential, explanatory mixed-method that entails combining quantitative and qualitative methods. The researchers conducted a quantitative survey of a purposive sample of 561 managers, supervisors, and owners of tourism industry establishments, as well as tourism graduates exposed to the industry and those working in the tourism industry. Semistructured interviews were also conducted with 12 participants who were purposively selected. This study found that the tourism industry experiences graduates as being comfortable with technology, having a professional appearance, as well as outgoing—their three top actual abilities. However, graduates were perceived to lack entrepreneurial skills. In addition, work experience, negotiation skills, and career planning were among the lowest ranked actual abilities of tourism graduates. Actual knowledge and skills gaps indicate a lack of the educational expertise required, as it underpins the curriculum in a tourism qualification and adds extensive value to the tourism industry when recruiting, training, and developing staff.

Abstract Parkinson’s disease (PD) is a progressive disease that targets many aspects of the nervous system, both motor and non-motor functions. Dance as an intervention provides a creative outlet that can be more motivating than other interventions by allowing people an opportunity for not only increased movement and activity, but also socialization. Creative expression through dance also has the potential to improve not only motor capabilities like balance, but also non-motor aspects like self-efficacy, cognition, and quality of life. For the community program described in this presentation, dance faculty led the dance and choreography components of the program while an occupational therapist (OT) served to maximize options for adaptations, safety, and accessibility. OT faculty also led efforts in gathering and analyzing data regarding community participation and program design utilizing a qualitative approach by conducting semi-structured interviews with five participants (four with PD, one with hydrocephalus, all over age 65) in the program. Content analysis of the data suggests some emerging themes which include: 1) forming common bonds and making friendships within the class due to PD diagnosis and similar enjoyment of the class, 2) increased appreciation and enjoyment of music, 3) appreciation of dance instruction, and 4) how transportation options, or lack thereof, impact participation in the class. These themes will assist in informing future program delivery with the hopes of reaching a larger contingent of the community who may also be interested in dance.

Current condition, problems and prospects for the domestic tourism industry development are studied. The main aspects hindering the tourism industry development in the country are considered and require further solutions. The current normative legal acts regulating issues in the field of tourism are considered and the attention is focused on the lack of correlation between the normative regulation of the branch and the share of revenues from the provision of tourist services in the country's GDP. It is determined that further reorganization and development of tourism in our country is not possible without the active support and direct intervention of the state. The authors proposed the measures, the implementation of which will help harmonize national standards in the field of tourism and resorts with international standards and help improve the quality of the national tourism product. It is proved that the development of the tourism industry directly depends not only on strengthening state regulation of tourism at the national level, but also at the regional level, especially since the tourism management system at the regional and local levels in decentralization in Ukraine is far from perfect. Emphasis is placed on the need to implement EU legislation in the field of tourism and resorts, which contributes to the improvement of tourism legislation and developed recommendations for the implementation of mechanisms for tourism development in the country.
