The volume of corporate social responsibility (CSR) activities is increasing worldwide; the European Union considers CSR to be one of the ways to achieve the most competitive economy and CSR awareness is also rising among companies in the Czech Republic, their customers, and the public. Bearing this in mind, Fairtrade goods, a subset of CSR and sustainable development, is an attractive step for vendors to take towards their customers. In this paper, we try to learn who the buyers of Fairtrade products are and what their motivation is in order to help Fairtrade dealers know their target group better, while at the same time helping expand this target group for organizations such as Fairtrade Czech Republic. We utilize an empirical survey and employ both univariate and bivariate statistical analyses (descriptives, associations, correlations) for this purpose. While some previous findings were confirmed, such as (the influence of age and education on Fairtrade purchasing behavior, moral principles and quality of the product being stated as the most important motives to buy Fairtrade products, the significance of the Fairtrade logo and certificate for the buyers’ awareness) one was disproved. According to the gathered data, the economic situation of a household does not affect Fairtrade purchasing behavior.

The objective of the article is to make the reader acquainted with the quality of life in persons with behavioural impairment in professional institutes in the Czech Republic. The first part of the text aims at describing individual institutes, and the second part presents the research conducted in facilities of subsequent care for people with behavioural problems. The system of facilities for the monitored target group is rather extensive. Such facilities are regarded from various perspectives and points of view. The monitored institutes are divided in terms of the age of their clients, the scale of the problems, the services provided, etc. Also, the knowledge of valid legislation plays an important role. The following text intends to divide the target facilities based on specific criteria – which will improve orientation (at first sight) in the complicated and disorganised portfolio of institutes. It is beyond the capacity of this paper to enumerate all institutes dealing in the prevention, intervention, therapy and resocialization of persons with problems relating to behaviour, thinking, emotions, etc. The text adverts to the most significant institutes and introduces their activities in the form of practical examples (casuistry). The paper follows, above all, the current legislation and practice. The presented research focuses on describing the quality of life in persons under the programmes of subsequent care. The reason for selecting this type of institute is the fact that the participants of subsequent care programmes have experience with stays even in other types of monitored facilities.

The digital transformation of all areas of government is one of the European Union priorities. The motivation for our research was the fact that when it comes to the evaluation of Digital Public Services, the Czech Republic ranks below the EU countries average. This article discusses the development of electronic filings for the Financial Administration in the Czech Republic. It started with a critical literature review of relevant sources. Subsequently, a research was conducted with 644 respondents in the form of a questionnaire survey. Based on the primary research, opinions on the digitization of financial administration, including the benefits and disadvantages it brings to them, was verified with entrepreneurs. The survey data was evaluated using a non-parametric test in SPSS Statistics. Following an empirical survey, it was found that the majority of respondents perceive electronic filings in a positive way. The most common form of electronic filing is through data boxes, which have been in use in the Czech Republic since 2009. Less than half of the respondents had some problems related to the introduction of electronic filings. Some of the most common issues mentioned included the familiarization with the requirements associated with the electronic filings and learning to use the program in general. With the majority of respondents, accountants are responsible for interaction with the Financial Administration. Based on the respondents’ perception, the saving of time was identified as the most significant benefit, followed by the availability of information and error checks; saving of costs was the last. The respondents evaluate electronic communication as more flexible, practical and easier.

The article deals with the results of research, monitoring the attitudes of specific pedagogical staff – teaching assistants (TA) – in the Czech Republic to their undergraduate and postgraduate education. It includes statements of more than 800 respondents. It evaluates the qualifications, teaching assistants´ skills of working with children of the target group (disablements and social disadvantages). It provides a comparison of attitudes of both teaching assistants´ groups (acting as teaching assistants in two mentioned groups of pupils). It answers the questions: Which qualifications are regarded by TA as the most important? Which skills have not been provided by existing training programs and courses? How do they assess the conditions of executing the profession in schools? The research confirmed the difference between legislatively determined mandatory minimum of educational curriculum for TA and their real needs. It makes proposals to modify training programs.

The article deals with the issue of choosing an appropriate degree of regulation of the sharing economy and its impact on public opinion. Arguments for and against the legislative regulation of sharing are discussed, both in terms of foreign experience and the situation within the Czech Republic in relation to the rules of the European Union. Results of the primary research are presented, the aim of which was to find out how the current state of legal regulation of the sharing economy in the Czech Republic is reflected in the perception of the Czech public. The results of the research clearly show that the public perceives the current legal regulation of the sharing economy as insufficient, which undermines public confidence in it. Quality of public finances belongs to a key policy challenge as its improvement should lead to a long-term economic growth. The aim of the paper is to investigate if the key channels and tools used by the public finance (structure of revenue system, size of the government and composition of expenditure, level and sustainability of fiscal position) affect economic growth in the Czech Republic in the period 1995-2013. The empirical model is based on the methodology of Barro and Sala-i-Martin (2003) and the model of Mankiw et al. (1992) which is adapted to the framework of this study. The results of dynamic regressions suggest that economic growth is affected by public finance variables only partly and traditional sources of economic growth (human capital or openness) play bigger role. Provided evidence shows that total tax burden as well as the structure of revenue system (especially implicit tax rates on labour and consumption) should be primarily used as tools for maintain macroeconomic objectives. On the contrary, changes in size and composition of expenditure, balance and debt report not statistically significant impact.

The authors use the economic approach to examine legal issues of digitization in public administration. The comparison of the European legislation and Czech national legislation form the primary methodology of the interpretation of the rights of users as well as the obligations of the public administration. The article presents the results of primary quantitative research aiming to determine the extent to which PR tools are used by chemical companies towards the public (wide and local) in the Czech Republic. It was found that, in the opinion of the respondents, the natural publicity of the company through word of mouth and media information has the greatest influence on public opinion, while the influence of social networks has not been appreciated yet. An important contribution of the paper may be the identification of the extent of use of a complex set of PR tools in the areas of information publicity, events and corporate social responsibility initiatives (CSR) recommended by literature to support business reputation among the public. Thus, it was possible to identify PR tools often used by companies, albeit not very effective, and vice versa, those PR tools that are perceived to be effective, but not yet widely used in practice. The application of research results will facilitate a better allocation of company resources among PR tools in order to more effectively meet the company’s PR objectives towards the public. The research was conducted through the electronic questioning method and involved 53 marketing and PR managers of chemical companies in the Czech Republic.

This chapter focuses on defence transformations in the Czech Republic, Slovakia, and Hungary since the end of the cold war. The three lesser powers of Central Europe all eventually joined NATO and the European Union, following the fall of the Iron Curtain. The process they underwent completely transformed their security strategies and military doctrines, but the plans to transform their military forces have developed slowly, and the actual process has been interrupted and incomplete. This chapter addresses the development of civil–military relations, the main milestones in the development of the respective states’ national security policies, and the main changes in the structure of military forces in each of these countries. Finally, the chapter looks at the nascent trends towards military cooperation between the three countries, including military sharing and joint procurement.
