Metamaterial With Local Resonators Coupled by Negative Stiffness Springs for Enhanced Vibration Suppression

In recent years, metamaterials for the applications in low-frequency vibration suppression and noise reduction have attracted numerous research interests. This paper proposes a metamaterial system with local resonators from adjunct unit cells coupled by negative stiffness springs. Frist, a lumped parameter model of the system is developed, and a stability criterion is derived. The band structure of the infinite lattice model is calculated. The result reveals the appearance of extra band gaps in the proposed metamaterial. A parametric study shows that the first extra band gap can be tuned to ultralow frequency by controlling the negative stiffness of the coupling springs. A transmittance analysis of the finite lattice model verifies the predictions obtained from the band structure analysis. Subsequently, the work is extended to a distributed parameter metamaterial beam model with the proposed configuration of coupled local resonators. The stability analysis shows that the infinitely long metamaterial beam becomes unstable as long as the stiffness of the coupling spring becomes negative. For the finitely long metamaterial beam, the stability could be achieved for negative coupling springs of given stiffnesses. The effects of the number of cells and the lattice constant on the system stability are investigated. The transmittance of the finitely long metamaterial beam is calculated. The result shows that due to the restriction on the tunability of negative stiffness for the proposed metamaterial beam, a quasistatic vibration suppression region can only be achieved when the number of cells is small.

Various active vibration suppression techniques, which use feedback control, are implemented on the structures. In real application, time delay can not be avoided especially in the feedback line of the actively controlled systems. The effects of the delay have to be thoroughly understood from the perspective of system stability and the performance of the controlled system. Often used control laws are developed without taking the delay into account. They fulfill the design requirements when free of delay. As unavoidable delay appears, however, the performance of the control changes. This work addresses the stability analysis of such dynamics as the control law remains unchanged but carries the effect of feedback time-delay, which can be varied. For this stability analysis along the delay axis, we follow up a recent methodology of the authors, the Direct Method (DM), which offers a unique and unprecedented treatment of a general class of linear time invariant time delayed systems (LTI-TDS). We discuss the underlying features and the highlights of the method briefly. Over an example vibration suppression setting we declare the stability intervals of the dynamics in time delay space using the DM. Having assessed the stability, we then look at the frequency response characteristics of the system as performance indications.

Most control systems are contaminated with some level of time delay. Whether it appears due to the inherent system dynamics or because of the sensory feedback, the delay has to be resolved regarding the system stability. We explain an unprecedented and fundamental treatment of time delay in a general class of linear time invariant systems (LTI) following a strategy, which we call the ‘Direct Method’. The strengths of the method lie in recognizing two interesting and novel features, which are typical for this class of systems. These features enable a structured strategy to be formed for analyzing the stability of LTI-TDS (Time Delayed Systems). Vibration control settings are not immune from time delay effects. We present a case study on active control of vibration using linear full state feedback. We then apply the Direct Method on this structure to display the stability outlook along the axis of delay. There appears an interesting property, which is related to the determination of the imaginary (i.e. marginally stable) roots of LTI-TDS. We state a general lemma and proof on this point.

Effect of stochastic fluctuations in angular velocity on the stability of two degrees-of-freedom ring-type microelectromechanical systems (MEMS) gyroscopes is investigated. The governing stochastic differential equations (SDEs) are discretized using the higher-order Milstein scheme in order to numerically predict the system response assuming the fluctuations to be white noise. Simulations via Euler scheme as well as a measure of largest Lyapunov exponents (LLEs) are employed for validation purposes due to lack of similar analytical or experimental data. The response of the gyroscope under different noise fluctuation magnitudes has been computed to ascertain the stability behavior of the system. External noise that affect the gyroscope dynamic behavior typically results from environment factors and the nature of the system operation can be exerted on the system at any frequency range depending on the source. Hence, a parametric study is performed to assess the noise intensity stability threshold for a number of damping ratio values. The stability investigation predicts the form of threshold fluctuation intensity dependence on damping ratio. Under typical gyroscope operating conditions, nominal input angular velocity magnitude and mass mismatch appear to have minimal influence on system stability.

Engineering practice shows that, the DC power supply system has the advantages of convenient operation, high work efficiency, system stability.

To enhance the stability and accuracy of the digital-physical hybrid simulation system of a modular multilevel converter-based high voltage direct current (MMC-HVDC) system, this paper presents an improved power interface modeling algorithm based on ideal transformer method (ITM). By analyzing the stability condition of a hybrid simulation system based on the ITM model, the current of a so-called virtual resistance is added to the control signal of the controlled current source in the digital subsystem, and the stability of the hybrid simulation system with the improved power interface model is analyzed. The value of the virtual resistance is optimized by comprehensively considering system stability and simulation precision. A two-terminal bipolar MMC-HVDC simulation system based on the proposed power interface model is established. The comparisons of the simulation results verify that the proposed method can effectively improve the stability of the hybrid simulation system, and at the same time has the advantages of high simulation accuracy and easy implementation.

An easy recyclable and interesting Ag3PO4@Pt@TiO2 (APTP) three-phase heterocrystal chains were self-assembled by the cohesive action and chemical construction of polyvinylpyrrolidone (PVP). We found that a new electron–hole transmission path has been built via the rematch of the band structure of Ag3PO4, Pt and TiO2 which extends the light absorption and promoted the electron–hole separation to treat the antibiotic residues in the water. Based on the thorough investigations, a new catalytic material was provided for antibiotics degradation. The catalytic activity of APTP toward the degradation of tetracycline solution was enhanced by 166.67% and the stability increased remarkably compared with pure Ag3PO4 through the integration of different functional components.

Power system stability improvement by a coordinate Design ofThyristor Controlled Series Compensator (TCSC) controller is addressed in this paper.Particle Swarm Optimization (PSO) technique is employed for optimization of the parameterconstrained nonlinear optimization problem implemented in a simulation environment. The proposed controllers are tested on a weakly connected power system. The non-linear simulation results are presented. The eigenvalue analysis and simulation results show the effectiveness and robustness of proposed controllers to improve the stability performance of power system by efficient damping of low frequency oscillations under various disturbances.

Electric vehicles are alternative vehicles that carry energy efficient. At this time the dominant vehicle uses ordinary wheels so that it will become an obstacle in the maneuver function that requires movement in various directions. With mechanum wheels the vehicle can move in various directions by adjusting the direction of rotation of each wheel. The problem is choosing the right control system for the control system needed by the vehicle. The purpose of this study is to determine and analyze the effect of variations in the value of PI (Proportional Integral) and speed of the vehicle to the stability response of the system to control the direction of prototype electric vehicles. This study method is an experiment that is by giving a treatment, then evaluating the effects caused by the research object. The results of this study can be concluded that the variation of PI constant values and speed variations have an effect on the stability parameters of the system, namely rise time, settling time, overshot, and steady state error. To get the best system stability response results can use the constant value PI Kp = 2; and Ki = 17; where the stability response of the system for direction control at each speed condition has a fairly good value with a fast rise time, fast settling time, small overshot and a small error steady state compared to other PI constant values in this study.Keywords: mechanum wheel, PI control, direction, prototype, system stability

A fundamental task in photogrammetry is the temporal stability analysis of a camera/imaging-system’s calibration parameters. This is essential to validate the repeatability of the parameters’ estimation, to detect any behavioural changes in the camera/imaging system and to ensure precise photogrammetric products. Many stability analysis methods exist in the photogrammetric literature; each one has different methodological bases, and advantages and disadvantages. This paper presents a simple and rigorous stability analysis method that can be straightforwardly implemented for a single camera or an imaging system with multiple cameras. The basic collinearity model is used to capture differences between two calibration datasets, and to establish the stability analysis methodology. Geometric simulation is used as a tool to derive image and object space scenarios. Experiments were performed on real calibration datasets from a dual fluoroscopy (DF; X-ray-based) imaging system. The calibration data consisted of hundreds of images and thousands of image observations from six temporal points over a two-day period for a precise evaluation of the DF system stability. The stability of the DF system – for a single camera analysis – was found to be within a range of 0.01 to 0.66 mm in terms of 3D coordinates root-mean-square-error (RMSE), and 0.07 to 0.19 mm for dual cameras analysis. It is to the authors’ best knowledge that this work is the first to address the topic of DF stability analysis.

<span lang="EN-US">Voltage Stability has emerged in recent decades as one of the most common phenomena, occurrence in Electrical Power Systems. Prior researches focused on the development of algorithm indices to solve the stability problem and in the determination of factors with most influence in voltage collapse to solve the stability problem. This paper evaluates the influence that the load dependence has with the voltage on the phenomenon of the voltage stability and especially on the characteristics the collapse point or instability point. Load modeling used is detailed and comparisons of the results obtained are made with those described in the bibliography and those obtained with commercial software. The results of the load margin are also compared when a constant load or a voltage-dependent load is considered as well as the values obtained at the maximum load point and the point of voltage instability.</span>
