This study tested the relationship between perceived role characteristics and role satisfaction among sport executives. It also investigated the relative importance of role characteristics and individual variables in the prediction of role satisfaction. Measures of perceived role characteristics and role satisfaction were obtained through content analysis of interviews with 60 executives involved in Quebec amateur sport federations. Demographic data were gathered by questionnaire. Results indicated positive correlations between perceived role characteristics and role satisfaction. As demonstrated by multiple regression analysis, the selected individual characteristics (age and marital status) were not predictive of role satisfaction. Use of competence, autonomy, role significance, and recognition were found to be the four major determinants of role satisfaction within the voluntary sport associations.

The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relationship between firm’s liquidity and profitability; and to find out the effects of different components of liquidity on firms’ profitability. The relationship between liquidity and firms’ profitability is empirically examined by collecting the data of 50 listed firms of Karachi Stock Exchange, Pakistan. Panel data has been collected from secondary sources for the year 2007 to 2011 .Net operating income and Return on assets are used measure of firm’s profitability. Liquidity of the firm is measured by using cash gap in days and current ratio. Firm size measured by net sales, total assets and market capitalization .The study applies regression analysis to determine factors affecting profitability. Incremental tests are carried out to see the importance of individual variables in the model. The results of correlation and regression analysis showed that there is a significant negative relationship between cash gap and return on assets while current ratio has significant positive relationship with profitability. Results further indicate that log of sales and log of total assets has positive significant relationship with profitability. The findings of this study are based on firms listed on the Karachi Stock Exchange (KSE). Hence, the results cannot be generalizable to those firms which are not listed on Karachi stock exchange. The sample of the study comprises only the merchandising and manufacturing firms. Banks are excluded due to their nature of work.

This study explores the possibility of gender and cultural differences in consumption aspirations using two different approaches. The first approach is designed to elicit stereotypes with regard to consumption dreams or the “good life”: “What do you believe most Americans (New Zealanders) wish for or want to achieve in their lives?”. The second approach probes for individuals' actual aspirations: “Three years after graduation, how do you want your life to be in terms of …”. Specific consumption categories examined in both approaches allow an assessment of individuals' relative emphasis on Having, Doing and Being (Sartre, 1956). Priority rankings of these categories provide information regarding the relative importance of each class of possessions/experiences. In addition, materialism and life satisfaction measures are included to assess the relationship between these two constructs and consumption aspirations and dream stereotypes. Content analysis of the data indicates that (1) significant gender differences in consumption aspirations and dream stereotypes do exist, although the form of these differences varies as a function of culture, and (2) culture has a more significant effect on aspirations and dreams than does gender. Findings are discussed in terms of gender theory and cultural differences between the two countries.

The paper analyses the ethnocultural factors of volitional regulation from the cultural-historical perspective. A hypothesis is put forward about the relationship between the specifics of volitional regulation and national self-consciousness of the individual. The aim of the work is to study the relationship between ethnic identity and features of volitional regulation among representatives of various ethnic groups (Russians, Komis, Tuvans, Kabardians, Mari, Koreans). A total of 600 people aged 18 to 30 years took part in the study (the samples were gender balanced). To evaluate the individual characteristics of volitional regulation in the respondents, the following techniques were used: the Action Control Scale by J. Kuhl; the "Questionnaire for revealing the expression of self-control in the emotional sphere, activity and behavior"; the technique for self-assessment of volitional qualities; the Purpose in Life Test. The features of ethnic identity were evaluated using the “Types of Ethnic Identity” technique (by S.V. Ryzhova, G.U. Soldatova). The study revealed significant positive correlations between the intensity of volitional self-control and the overall score of volitional self-esteem and positive ethnicity in groups where nationality occupies an important place in the structure of the subject's self-consciousness (Tuvans, Koreans, Kabardians).

Abstract. Background: Little is known about the role of insight and satisfaction with life in adolescent suicidal behavior. Aims: The objective of this study was to examine the relationship between suicide risk, insight, and satisfaction with life among adolescents with mental disorders. Method: A total of 30 adolescents were evaluated using self-report measures of insight, satisfaction with life, and suicide risk. Regression analysis was used to assess the contribution of each factor to suicide risk. Results: Positive correlations were found between suicide risk and insight dimensions. Satisfaction with life correlated negatively with suicide risk and insight dimensions. Insight explained 27.3% of suicide risk (p = .003). Both insight and satisfaction with life explained 39.0% of suicide risk (p = .031). Conclusion: Among adolescents with mental disorders, insight is a risk factor, whereas satisfaction with life is a protective factor for suicidality. Insight affects suicide risk of adolescents with mental disorders via reduction of satisfaction with life.

Aim The present study aim to investigate the contributing role of daily living functioning and social engagement in enhancing wellness and various dimensions of wellness in older adults. Method A correlational research was designed. Socio-demographic data was collected. Lawton Instrumental Activities of Daily Living, Lubben Social Network Scale, and Perceived Wellness Survey were administered on a sample of 112 participants, including 56 men and 56 women. Results A correlation analysis found positive correlations between daily living functioning, social engagement and wellness of older adults. The results of regression analysis concluded that both the daily living functioning and social engagement predicted wellness and domains of wellness as well. Conclusion The obtained results indicate that older adults who are self-reliant lead a more satisfied life in old age and demonstrate to be more adjusted to the effects of aging.

Abstract Background and Purpose. Little is known about the relationship among impairments, functional limitations, and disability in people with cervical spine disorders (CSD) despite the fact that these concepts are routinely used in clinical practice. The primary purpose of this study was to investigate the relationships among commonly assessed impairment, functional limitation, and disability measures in patients with CSD. A secondary purpose was to determine the influence of payment source and time since onset of symptoms on these same measures. Subjects. Eighty patients (mean age=45.7 years, SD=15.9, range= 20–88) with CSD who were referred for physical therapy participated in the study. Methods. Data were obtained for 3 measures of impairment, 2 measures of functional limitation, and 3 measures of self-reported disability during the initial visit. Results. All 3 sets of variables (ie, impairment, functional limitation, disability) correlated with each other, with the highest correlation occurring between the impairment measures and the functional limitation measures (r=.82). Other correlations were noted between individual variables. There was no effect of payment type or time since onset of symptoms on the variables. Conclusion and Discussion. Positive correlations were noted among the 3 sets of measures, which supports the assumption that impairments, functional limitations, and disability are related in patients with CSD.

Abstract. Depression in older adults can be explained by Erikson’s theory on the conflict of ego integrity versus hopelessness. The study investigated the relationship between past acceptance, hopelessness, death anxiety, and depressive symptoms in 100 older (≥50 years) adults. The total Beck Hopelessness (BHS), Geriatric Depression (GDS), and Accepting the Past (ACPAST) subscale scores of the depressed group were higher, while the total Death Anxiety (DAS) and Reminiscing the Past (REM) subscale scores of both groups were similar. A regression analysis revealed that the BHS, DAS, and ACPAST predicted the GDS. Past acceptance seems to be important for ego integrity in older adults.
