Formwork system (FWS) is one of the key components in reinforced concrete (RC) construction. Therefore, selection of the most appropriate FWS plays a critical role in the project success. Since the FWS selection is affected by several compromising and conflicting criteria, numerous studies have been carried out to identify the FWS selection criteria and/or have employed various multi-criteria decision-making (MCDM) methods since the early 1990s. However, there is no research that conducts a critical review of the previous studies addressing the FWS selection criteria in building construction projects. This study aims to fill this knowledge gap. For this purpose, a critical review of the relevant literature was carried out using an integrative approach and the findings were validated through face-to-face interviews with professionals specialized in formwork engineering. The findings of this study may provide practitioners with a useful guide that can assist them in selecting the most appropriate FWS.

The formwork system (FWS) in reinforced concrete (RC) construction is a critical component. The appropriate FWS is selected based on a number of conflicting and compromising criteria, and the selection of the FWS is carried out by construction professionals with different technical and/or administrative backgrounds. The perspectives and perceptions of construction professionals and companies involved in the FWS selection process may vary depending on their motives. In addition, some building structural parameters may have a significant impact on the FWS selection criteria. Most of the former studies investigated the FWS selection criteria from only the perspective of contractors and neglected the potential differences in the perspectives and perceptions of different construction professionals (i.e., owners (CO), project managers (PM), construction managers (CM), site engineers (SE), planning engineers (PL), procurement engineers (PR), technical office engineers (TO), and formwork design and/or formwork sales engineers (FD/FSL)) and companies specialized in different fields (i.e., project management service (PMS), engineering and design (ENG/DSG), formwork and scaffolding (FW/SCF), and general and/or sub-contractor (GC/SC)) regarding this issue. Moreover, the impact of building structural parameters on the FWS selection criteria has not been investigated. This study aims to fill this knowledge gap through analysing the FWS selection criteria for building construction projects while comparing the perspectives and perceptions of different groups of construction professionals and companies and investigating how FWS selection criteria are affected by the building structural parameters. Based on a comprehensive literature review, 35 FWS selection criteria were identified and a questionnaire was developed. The questionnaire data obtained from 222 Turkish construction professionals were statistically analysed using mean score analysis, the Kruskal–Wallis test, and the Mann–Whitney U test. According to the study’s findings, the FD/FSL group presented significant statistical differences regarding the FWS selection criteria as compared to the CO, PM/CM/SE, and PL/PR/TO groups. Moreover, the total area of building construction and total building height significantly affected the FWS selection criteria. This study serves to underscore the perspectives of various groups of construction professionals and the critical connection between the structural parameters and FWS selection criteria. The findings of this study may guide construction professionals to select the appropriate FWS for their building construction projects.

Construction contract refers to an agreement which in enforced by law; standard form is printed form of contract to define responsibilities to various parties involved to complete the construction works. Malaysian construction industry relies essentially on a number of standard forms namely the JKR Sarawak Form of Contract, PWD 203A, PAM, IEM and CIDB forms to execute its construction projects. However, with the number of choices available and without a clear selection guide, selection of an appropriate standard form for the particular projects has hinged on the familiarity of the form users with the particular form. This study aims to identify the selection criteria that can be used for standard form selection. The study form looks into the current practice and how decisions are made to select the appropriate standard form. Selection criteria are identified and this research carried out verification works with local construction industry players via questionnaire survey method. Results from questionnaire survey also indicated that standard forms are usually predetermined by the client in tender stage. It is also shown that some of the respondents have limited exposure to certain standard forms of contract. With the selection criteria identified, it is hopeful that a selection guideline can be developed.

This ongoing pandemic has demanded a rapid response to the unparalleled suspension of face-to-face teaching around the world. There has consequently been a growing interest in finding out how educators cope up with the transition. This study aims to explore the experience that EFL teachers in Jayapura encountered regarding the implementation of e-learning during the COVID-19 Pandemic. The data were collected through semi-structured interviews. A selection of 11 EFL teachers as the informants of this study was made based on the criteria of the study. By synthesizing the relevant literature with the collected data which were analyzed using thematic analysis, the findings were valued and wisely reviewed. The examination results of this study showed there are two emerging themes on teachers' experience in implementing e-learning, the themes are facilitating student learning and outcomes and self-regulated learning. Other themes that appeared were reviewed in terms of challenges, namely, obtaining interactive learning and teaching adjustment during transition. The findings can have important implications for ensuring the effective use of implementing e-learning toward English teaching.

Due to the lack of natural resources and environmental problems which have been appearing increasingly, low-carbon buildings are more and more involved in the construction industry. The selection of low-carbon supplier is a significant part in the process of low-carbon building construction projects. In this paper, we propose a novel dynamic multicriteria decision-making approach for low-carbon supplier selection in the process of low-carbon building construction projects to deal with these problems. First, the paper establishes 5 main criteria and 17 subcriteria for low-carbon supplier selection in the process of low-carbon building construction projects. Then, a method considering interaction between criteria and the influence of constructors subjective preference and objective criteria information is proposed. It uses the basic concept and properties of the interval-valued triangular fuzzy number intuitionistic fuzzy weighted Bonferroni means (IVTFNIFWBM) operators and the objective information entropy and TOPSIS-based Euclidean distance to calculate the comprehensive evaluation results of potential low-carbon suppliers. The proposed method is much easier for constructors to select low-carbon supplier and make the localization of low-carbon supplier more practical and accurate in the process of building construction projects. Finally, a case study about a low-carbon building project is given to verify practicality and effectiveness of the proposed approach.

The construction industry plays significant role in the economy of developing countries, where Lebanon is one of. However, the performance industry remains under critique. Many projects encounter considerable time and cost overruns, fail to realize their intended benefit or even totally terminated and abandoned before or after their completion. As the construction project goes through many phases, the success of each phase will affect the success of the project. Thus, the “Project Success” notion is becoming a priority in the Lebanese construction sector. This paper describes a study of the time, cost and quality management trilogy impact on the success of the local Lebanese construction projects. It shows the importance of each factor and its role in the attainment of client objectives. A Questionnaire survey, supported by “face to face” interviews, elicit the attitude of owners (developers), consultants, and contractors towards the factors affecting each parameter is done. Conclusion and remarks for future construction quality system rating will follow.


The international experience of integrating building information modeling (BIM) into project management system with innovation implementation accent has been revealed in this article. The events carried out on federal and regional levels concerning the President of Russia directive on building construction industry modernization and construction objects transferring to life cycle management by means of BIM were analyzed. The large company experience of implementing BIM was summarized with describing some examples in different cities and regions of our country and thus the main directions of this technology development were determined. The key points of BIM and project management system pairing and impacting an innovation choice witch determine the project economic efficiency in the integrated management system were shown. The main reports of "Building construction projects technology and management: new practices and prospects" conference by Moscow Trade and Commerce Chamber were reviewed in this direction and problems of the new investment and construction project management technology implementation were shown. The ways to solve these problems were disclosed by work examples of PAO "Sberbank", and successfully working in our country firms Bilfinger Tebodin - BIM design and Beiten Burkhard -jurisdiction support. Some economic efficiency questions of BIM implementation were disclosed in the report delivered by The Plekhanov University of Economics (project and program management base department of Capital Group). Management system suggestions, regarding BIM implementation in Moscow construction were given.

A comparative study of several recently proposed one-dimensional sedimentation models has been made. This has been achieved by fitting these models to steady-state and dynamic concentration profiles obtained in a down-scaled secondary decanter. The models were evaluated with several a posteriori model selection criteria. Since the purpose of the modelling task is to do on-line simulations, the calculation time was used as one of the selection criteria. Finally, the practical identifiability of the models for the available data sets was also investigated. It could be concluded that the model of Takács et al. (1991) gave the most reliable results.
