Cytology and reproductive behavior of hybrids between Paspalum urvillei and two hexaploid P. dilatatum biotypes

Sexual, tetraploid (2n = 4x = 40) vaseygrass (Paspalum urvillei Steud.) was crossed with two apomictic, hexaploid (2n = 6x = 60) dallisgrass (P. dilatatum Poir.) biotypes (Uruguayan and Uruguaiana) to determine their relationships and the reproductive behavior of the hybrids. One vaseygrass × Uruguayan and two vaseygrass × Uruguaiana hybrids were studied and all had 2n = 5x = 50 chromosomes. The mean pairing meiotic association for the vaseygrass × Uruguayan hybrid was 10.18 I and 19.91 II, and for the two vaseygrass × Uruguaiana hybrids was 10.28 I, 19.82 II, 0.006 III, and 0.01 IV. These findings indicate that the parents of both hybrids have two homologous genomes. Because vaseygrass and Uruguayan dallisgrass have the genome formulas IIJJ and IIJJXX, respectively, their hybrid has the formula IIJJX and the two homologous genomes are the I and J genomes. Likewise, chromosome pairing in the vaseygrass × Uruguaiana hybrids demonstrates that both species have two similar genomes, I and J. The Uruguaiana biotype usually has 8–10 univalents per cell and these result from the failure of some members of the third genome to pair. Thus the Uruguaiana biotype has different forms of the X genome, and its genome formula may be designated as IIJJXX2. Cytologically all three hybrids were facultative apomicts but their uniform F2 progeny indicates that only the apomictic embryo sacs are functional. Zodiac BX is equal in yield and oil content to the mean of the checks, Legend, AC Excel and Cyclone. Zodiac BX is moderately resistant to blackleg disease. Chromosome pairing affinities of interspecific hybrids involving the newly discovered species Avena atlantica with A. strigosa, A. hirtula, A. prostrata, A. damascena, A. maroccana, and A. sativa are described. The complete and regular chromosome pairing observed in the hybrids involving A. hirtula and A. strigosa confirms the genomic designation to be AsAs. The chromosome pairing in the A. prostrata, A. damascena, A. maroccana, and A. sativa hybrids indicates that A. atlantica is no more closely related to these species than the other members of the AsAs genomic group. This study presents a research report on improving students’ Learning results on IPA through Video. The objective was to find out whether students’ learning result improved when they are taught by using Video. It was conducted using classroom action research method. The subject of the study was the Grade IV students of SDN 187/IV Kota Jambi which is located on Jln. Adi Sucipto RT 05 Kecamatan Jambi Selatan, and the number of the students were 21 persons. The instruments used were test. In analyzing the data, the mean of the students’ score for the on fisrt sycle was 65,4 (42,85%) and the mean on cycle two was 68,5 (37,15%) and the mean of the third cycle was 81,4 (100%). Then it can be concluded that the use of video on learning IPA can improve the students’ learning result. It is suggested that teachers should use video as one of the media to improve students’ learning result on IPA.Keywords : IPA, students’ learning result, video

This study attempts to improve students’ writing achievement in recount text through Think-Pair-Share Strategy. This study was conducted by using classroom action research. The subject of the research was class VIII-1 SMPN 1 Pematangsiantar. The number of the students was 32 students, consisted of 5 males and twenty seven females. The research was conducted in two cycles and consisted of six meetings. The instruments for collecting data were writing tests as the quantitative data and diary notes, observation sheet, interview sheet and questionnaire sheet as qualitative data. Based on the writing score, students’ scores kept improving in every test. In analyzing the data, the mean of the students’ score for the first test as a pre-test was 57.84, for the second test as a post test I was 73.56, for the third test as a post test II was 77.56. Based on diary notes, observation sheet and questionnaire sheet, it was found that students were actively involved in writing process. The result of the research showed that Think-Pair-Share Strategy can improve students’ achievement in writing recount text.   Keywords: Think Pair Share, Writing, Recount text, Action research

This research concerns on improving students’ writing achievement in the report text through film.  The objective was to find out the improvement of students’ writing achievement in writing the report text through film. This research was conducted by using action research method. The subject of the research was XI IPA grade students of SMA SWASWTA JOSUA Medan. The numbers of students were thirty one students. They were taught writing the report text through film. The instruments used were writing report text test, diary notes, interview sheets, questionnaire sheets and observation sheets. In analyzing data, the mean of students’ score for the first competency test was 43.1, for the second competency test was 64.8 and for the third competency test was 76.3 and the total percentage of improvement from the first competency test to the third competency test was 84.1%. The conclusion is that through watching film can improve the students’ writing achievement in the report text. It is suggested that teachers should apply watching film as one of media to improve students’ writing achievement in the report text.

Abstract Background and aims: Gestational diabetes represents a form of diabetes diagnosed during pregnancy that is not clearly overt diabetes. In the last trimester of gestation the growth of fetoplacental unit takes place, thus maternal hyperglycemia will determine an increased transplacental passage, hyperinsulinemia and fetal macrosomia. The aim of our study was that o analyzing the effect of maternal glycemia from the last trimester of pregnancy over fetal weight. Material and method: We run an observational study on a group of 46 pregnant women taken into evidence from the first trimester of pregnancy, separated in two groups according to blood glucose determined in the third trimester (before birth): group I normoglycemic and group II with hyperglycemia (>92mg/dl). Results: The mean value of third trimester glycemia for the entire group was of 87.13±22.03. The mean value of the glycemia determined in the third trimester of pregnancy was higher in the second group (109.17 mg/dl) in comparison to the first group (74.,21 mg/dl). The ROC curve for third trimester glycemia as fetal macrosomia appreciation test has an AUC of 0.517. Conclusions: Glycemia determined in the last trimester of pregnancy cannot be used alone as the predictive factor for fetal macrosomia.

As it is ascertained that these sources contain very limited material on these subjects, the third part of this article proposes some ethical reflections regarding the official response to the pandemic as well as some pastoral implications. This work presents the results of a study about the reproductive behavior of riverine women living in the Sustainable Development Reserve Amanã, in the Middle Solimões region, state of Amazonas. The study was done in 2001 with the objective of identify aspects of the reproductive behavior of 83 women, collected through reproductive history methodology. These women live in small localities along the rivers and lakes in the middle of the Amazonian forest. The study identified that these women initialize their reproductive period at the age of 17, in average, and the mean age of their last pregnancy occurs at the age of 42, considering those above 50 years old. 36% of these 83 women had lost one or more of their children before the age of five. Only 16% use contraceptives and 12% are sterilized. They don’t have access to the basic health assistance in a regular basis and the local midwives are extremely important in their assistance during pregnancy and delivery. This study em phasizes the importance of reproductive health programs including those social and cultural local conditions.

Objective and methods: a prospective questionnaire based study on 71 parents (caretakers) of consecutive children treated at the Pediatric Department, Hue Central Hospital and on 47 health professionals at the department was conducted from September until December 2009 to investigate the knowledge, attitude and practices of the caretakers, nurses and postgraduated doctors toward teething in infants. Results: Most responders believed that teething causes fever, irritability, feeding problems, drooling, biting, sleep disturbance, swollen gums, crying, lose of appetite for solids; and fever over 38oC was also believed to be associated with teething. The mean eruption time of the first tooth was from 6 months. Most caretakers had normal attitude to manifestations ascribed to teething (54.9%). The most common management to symptoms attributed to teething included increased breast-feeding, oral paracetamol, increased fluid supplying and physician consulting. Conclusion: Correct knowledge to teething in infants need to be educated for parents (caretakers) and even for health professionals. Key words: knowledge, attitude, practices, teething, infants.

Purpose: To determine the clinical characteristics of the chronic dacryocystitis and the success rate of external dacryocystorhinostomy. Methods: The retrospective, interventional study without comparing on 27 patients (32 eyes) of chronic dacryocystitis who underwent dacryocystorhinostomy (DCR) from 2010 to 2011. Results were evaluated with standards: epiphora, purelence, lacrimal duct irrigation. Results: Over period of 6 months, 27 patients including 25 (92.59%) female, 2 (7.41%) male. The mean age was 49.8 years (range, 22-79 years). All patients demonstrated epiphera (range, 3 months – 11 years). Dacryocystorhinostomy was performed unilaterally in 81.48%, bilateral 18.52%. Successrate was 90.06% overall. Conclusions: Although techniques in dacryocystorhinostomy of DUPUY-DUTEMPS is old, its result is mainstay of treatment for chronic dacryocystitis in Vietnam.
