In this paper, ZnO thin film has been synthesized on fluorine doped tin oxide (FTO) glass substrate by annealing the Zn film in air flow. The SEM image shows that the high density and thread-like ZnO nanowires could grow on the thin film. XRD pattern shows that ZnO was the only compound. The high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) results of individual ZnO nanowires show that the nanowires grown on the ZnO thin film are single-crystalline, and the selected area electron diffraction pattern (SAED) shows that the nanowires grow along the (001) direction.

Zinc oxide (ZnO) nanostructures with different kind of morphologies were synthesized on glass substrates via the hydrothermal aqueous chemical growth method utilizing c-axis oriented ZnO thin film as seeded catalyst. By preparing ZnO thin film at different molar concentrations between 0.2~1.0 M, oval shaped ZnO nanostructures mixed with ZnO nanowires and rod shaped ZnO nanostructures mixed with ZnO nanowires were produced after immersion process into 0.0002 M zinc nitrate solution for 24 hour. The XRD spectra show synthesized ZnO nanostructures were ZnO hexagonal wurtzite crystalline. The photoluminescence (PL) measurement indicates the luminescences of the samples were depending on the shapes of ZnO nanostructure.

In this paper, the synthesis and characterization of uniform and dense CuO nanowires on fluorine-doped tin oxide (FTO) glass substrate are reported. The procedure simply involved the vapor–solid thermal oxidation growth process of CuO nanowires on FTO surface in the air flow. The sample was annealed in air within the temperature range 300–600°C for 1 h. The morphology and density of the CuO nanowires could be controlled by annealing temperature. The SEM image analysis indicates that the nanowires feature uniform size with aligned structures. The high-resolution transmission electron microscopy (HRTEM) result of individual CuO nanowires shows that the nanowires were single-crystalline, and the selected area diffraction pattern (SEAD) of the same sample shows that the nanowires grow along the (110) direction. The XRD analysis shows that CuO was the only product when the sample annealed at the temperature higher than 500°C.

The nanoStructured ZnO thin films were prepared by Spin coating technique on glass substrates at various layers. The structural and optical properties were characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and UV-Vis-NIR respectively. The surface morphology reveals that the nanostructured ZnO thin films become densely packed as the thickness increased. The average particles size of ZnO thin film estimated from FESEM images at different layers of 1, 3, 5, 7, 9 were 20nm, 28nm, 36nm, 39nm and 56nm, respectively. The surface roughness of thin films was increase as the thin film thickness increases. The results show all films are transparent in the visible region (400-800 nm) with average transmittance above 85 %. Meanwhile, the optical band gap was decrease as the film thickness increases. The conductivity of ZnO thin film slightly improved as the thickness increased as measured through two probes 1-V measurement system.

We have obtained Er-doped ZnO thin film in a micropattern of reverse trapezoids processed on Si substrate by sputtering and ultrafine polishing techniques. Near-infrared light emission was detected successfully from the thin film filling a single micropit with 10 μm square. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) observation showed epitaxial growth of ZnO crystals along the curvature of the micropit.
