THE TOP MANAGERS' IMPACT ON OPENING THE ORGANIZATIONAL CULTURE TO INNOVATION

Innovation is an ever-increasing focus for modern organizations; yet research studies on organizational culture have tended to neglect this aspect. This paper specifies the key factors characterising a company's innovation culture and examines the top managers' executed impact as organizational leaders from the individual perspective on implementing and fostering it in their respective organizations. Based on a conceptual framework, the empirically identified key factors of the (1) formal embedment, (2) climate, (3) incentives and reward allocation, (4) integration into decision process, (5) cross-hierarchical communication and (6) communication style are presented. Within the empirical study, 37 top managers of 21 leading companies in the industries of “fashion and accessories” and “watch and jewelry” were interviewed. The results indicate that the impact of top managers lag behind their potential to advance innovativeness through innovation culture, and the detected deficit represents scope for improvement. The paper concludes by highlighting the implications of the study and its limitations.

Multimodal freight transport in cities is a complex, valid, and vitally important problem. It is more seldom underlined in scientific studies and included in cities’ strategies that devote more attention to passenger transport than freight transport. The increased utilization of multimodal transport matches current transport policy and at the same time, it is one of the most important challenges put before cities striving to achieve sustainable development. In this case, the paper embarks upon the problem of relations between multimodal transport development and the sustainable development of the cities. The objective of the paper is an analysis of the impact of the selected city of the Upper Silesian metropolis on the development of multimodal freight transport and an assessment of the impact of the development of multimodal transport on the sustainable development of the cities of the Upper Silesian metropolis. The authors developed three research questions in order to implement the adopted objective. The process of looking for the answer included four stages. Within the first and second stages, the literature studies and experts’ research allowed for identifying key factors of the multimodal transport development that a city may have an impact on. In the third stage, the research was two-fold and was based on a questionnaire and scenario analysis. Due to the individual character of each of the cities, scenarios were developed for Katowice, being the main economic center of Upper Silesian and Zagłębie Metropolis. As a result of the research, factors have been identified that must be included in a strategy of a city that strives for sustainable development. The last stage of the research focused on the initial concept of the multimodal transport development impact assessment on sustainable development of the cities. Conclusions developed at individual stages allowed for answering the research questions.

This chapter examines the state of the art in telework research. The author reviews the most central scholarly literature examining the phenomenon of telework (also called home-based work or telecommuting) and develops a framework for organizing this body of work. She organizes previous research on telework into six major thematic concerns relating to the definition, measurement, and scope of telework; management of teleworkers; travel-related impacts of telework; organizational culture and employee isolation; boundaries between “home” and “work” and the impact of telework on the individual and the family. Areas for future research are suggested.

Despite a recent resurgence in the study of organizational culture, insufficient attention has been paid to the impact of the types of organizational culture on employee well-being and productivity in Canadian settings. This study investigated which types of organizational culture are most closely related to employee levels of work-related stress, enjoyment of work and self-perceived productivity. A secondary research interest was to identify the dominant culture type at the studied university in northern Canada. A total of 193 staff members from various departments (e.g., academic services, facilities, student life) completed an online survey containing questions on organizational culture, stress, enjoyment of work and productivity. Three intriguing findings were generated from the data: (1) All four types of organizational culture – clan, hierarchy, adhocracy, market – were identified at the institution; (2) the hierarchy culture was most prevalent, followed by the adhocracy culture, the market culture and then the clan culture; and (3) the type of organizational culture was significantly related to stress, enjoyment of work and productivity. Employees working in a clan culture reported the lowest levels of stress, and highest levels of enjoyment and productivity, followed by those in the adhocracy and hierarchy cultures, lastly the market culture. Important implications include: (1) Organizational leaders need to take into account the role organizational culture plays in employee well-being and workplace functioning, and (2) Organizational leaders should implement strategies to create a workplace culture that promotes employee well-being and productivity.

AbstractThe goal of this article is to analyse the impact of specific public policies on the school trajectories of socially vulnerable Ciganos (Gypsies/Roma) who reside/live in the Metropolitan Areas of Lisbon and Porto. Through carrying out qualitative research, the analysis of key factors will allow us to understand the reasons behind school continuity and educational success of Ciganos, as well as the identity (re)configuration processes associated with the education paths of these individuals. We find that trajectories are not only intertwined with public policies and programmes, but also with other explanatory factors inherent to the individual, to the type of support he/she receives from his/her family, the presence of key figures in their lives, and the importance of peers and institutional factors inherent to the way public schools operate.

The purpose of this study was to analyze the impact of variable mediation knowledge management innovation in relation to organizational performance and analyze the impact of innovation on the relationship mediating variables of organizational culture on an organi­zation. Population performers in this study were employees of XYZ. Collecting data in this study was conducted using the questionnaire method. Data analysis method used in this study is Partial Least Squares is a powerful method of analysis because it does not assume the data must use a certain scale and can use a small sample. The results showed that (1) knowledge management influence on innovation; (2) The effect on the organizational culture of innovation; (3) Knowledge Management of an effect on the performance of the organi­zation; (4) The organizational culture influence on organizational performance (5) innovation does not affect the performance of the organization, (6) the innovation did not mediate the relationship of knowledge management to organizational performance; (5) innovation does not mediate the relationship of organizational culture on organizational performance. Results obtained interviews innovation does not affect the performance of the organization for their gaps and differences in perception between the authority and powers of innovation, so that innovation is always dependent on the individual who is willing to turn these innovations.

Tourism represents a driver of economic growth and job creation all around the world. It has become one of the key factors of progress, not only of the individual destinations and regions but also the world economy. The paper aims to analyze the effects of different types of the crisis on the volume of tourism activities, tourism turnover, and revenues in the tourism sector. Despite occasional crisis situations and shocks, tourism has seen continued expansion and has shown great resilience. Having in mind that the COVID-19 pandemic has a major impact across world regions, as well as tourism is one the hardest-hit sectors, a special part of the paper analyzes the impact of the health crisis in Serbia and the global level. The intensive and deep impact of the pandemic on the tourism sector requires strong support at the national and global levels through the relevant institutions.

In this paper, we advance our understanding of the relationship between slack and innovation in two ways. We distinguish between different slack types on the organisational level, and hypothesise and empirically test how they influence innovative work behaviour (IWB) of both employees and top managers on the individual level. Applying a multigroup analysis in PLS-SEM, we test our model with a sample of 403 individuals, 155 top managers and 248 employees, from the German real estate industry. We find support for our central argument that the influence of organisational slack on individuals’ IWB differs according to the type of slack and the organisational role of the individual.

The problem of information impact is extremely relevant and significant in modern clinical psychology and medicine in the context of the emergence of risk of neurotic disorders. Russian and foreign authors view information is viewed as one of the key factors of neurogenesis. In modern scientific circulation, the generally accepted term that denotes pathogenic effect of information is the information overload. The author outlines the content of the concept and stress factors of its occurrence. There is lack of research dedicated to interdependence between the information stress factors and personal response. No specific personality characteristics that determine the sensitivity or resistance of an individual to particular causes of information overload are revealed. The object of this research is the impact of the factors of information overload upon the individual. The subject is the interrelation between personal peculiarities and specificity of the impact of information stress factors. The study involved medical students as the respondents who constantly deal with the key information stress factors due to specificity of their activity. The article is based on the 5PFQ five-factor personality survey, BMS II survey (fatigue-monotony-satiety-overload). V. A. Bodrov’s classification of the factors of information overload allowed developing the questionnaire that indicated the “direct information” factors. The author establishes acute significance of the estimated causes of information overload among the respondents. The use of correlation analysis allows establishing the dependence between personality characteristics and specific impact of the information stress factors, which reveals individual sensitivity to the particular information stressors.

Transformational leadership has a major impact on the improvement of organizational culture and success. It affects change in cultural characteristics of the individual and improvement of human achievements in all areas, thus creating a long-term positive approach of a person. It results in positive transformation of a person and improvement of its potentials. The transformational approach has a capacity to make significant change both in individuals and in the organization through adaptation, expectations, aspirations, perceptions and values. Such an approach is based mostly on leader’s personality, his character, vision, the power to accept the challenge and on his own example.Transformational leaders are focused on the "common good" instead of their individual "power bases”, they are broad-minded and respect the interests of their followers. With such leaders people are willing to create and innovate and to work harder than expected,.The paper studies some views on transformational leadership based on charisma, innovation of the companies, producing success and building personalities with durable and unperishable values. This is empirical research on the image of organizations formulated through the statements of managers and employees and presented through tabular, graphical and calculated correlative values.
