The frequent handover and handover failure problems obviously degrade the QoS of mobile users in the terrestrial segment (e.g., cellular networks) of satellite-terrestrial integrated networks (STINs). And the traditional handover decision methods rely on the historical data and produce the training cost. To solve these problems, the deep reinforcement learning- (DRL-) based handover decision methods are used in the handover management. In the existing DQN-based handover decision method, the overestimates of DQN method continue. Moreover, the current handover decision methods adopt the greedy strategy which lead to the load imbalance problem in base stations. Considering the handover decision and load imbalance problems, we proposed a load balancing-based double deep Q-network (LB-DDQN) method for handover decision. In the proposed load balancing strategy, we define a load coefficient to express the conditions of loading in each base station. The supplementary load balancing evaluation function evaluates the performance of this load balancing strategy. As the selected basic method, the DDQN method adopts the target Q-network and main Q-network to deal with the overestimate problem of the DQN method. Different from joint optimization, we input the load reward into the designed reward function. And the load coefficient becomes one handover decision factor. In our research, the handover decision and load imbalance problems are solved effectively and jointly. The experimental results show that the proposed LB-DDQN handover decision method obtains good performance in the handover decision. Moreover, the access of mobile users becomes more balancing and the throughput of network is also increased.

In this paper, we propose to maximize the Energy Efficiency (EE) of a two-tier network by jointly optimizing the number of active small cell base stations (SBSs) and the user-cell association. We apply the concept of signaling and data separation where a macro cell base station (MBS) provides full coverage while the SBSs provide high data transmission. First, we model the spatial distributions of the SBSs and mobile users following two independent Poisson Point Processes (PPP) and derive the expressions for the Signal-to-Interference Ratio (SIR), user cell associations, power consumption and energy efficiency of the Heterogeneous Network (HetNet). Then, we formulate the EE maximization problem and solve it by proposing the Switching off Decision and User Association (SODUA) algorithm. The algorithm associates a mobile user to an SBS that offers the highest SIR and calculates the load of each SBS. The algorithm, then, decides to switch off the SBSs that have fewer mobile users than a threshold value, where the mobile users will be offloaded to a nearby SBS that offers the highest SIR. Finally, we calculate the EE of the HetNet. We compare the EE achieved by the proposed algorithm (i.e. after offloading) and that "without offloading". The results show that the proposed algorithm improves the EE of the HetNet and that the EE cannot be further improved by switching off more SBSs than a certain number.

Cellular based M2M systems generate massive number of access requests which create congestion in the cellular network. The contention-based random access procedures are designed for cellular networks which cannot accommodate a large number of M2M traffic. Moreover, M2M systems share same radio resources with cellular users. Resource allocation problem becomes a challenging issue in cellular M2M systems. In this thesis, we address these two problems by analyzing a contention-based slotted Aloha random access procedure for M2M networks using different performance metrics. The impact of massive M2M traffic over cellular traffic is studied based on different arrival rate, random access opportunity and throughput. An analytical model of selecting a base station (eNB) along with load balancing is developed. Finally, two methods have been presented and evaluated with M2M traffic. First one is dynamic access class barring method which controls RAN level congestion by selecting an appropriate eNB and applying load balancing method. Second one is relay-assisted radio resource allocation method which maximizes the sum throughput of the system by utilizing the available radio resource blocks and relay nodes to the MTC systems. Numerical results show that frame transmission rate influences the selection probability of the base stations. Moreover, the dynamic access class barring parameter along with frame transmission rate improve the overall throughput and access success probability among base stations as well as avoid overload situation in a particular base station.

In this paper, we investigate power domain division-based multiple access (PDMA) to support the base stations (BS) equipped with multiple antennas to serve mobile users. Such a system deploys multiple input single output (MISO)-based wireless transmission and a full-duplex (FD) scheme. Furthermore, such MISO PDMA system consists of BS employing transmit antenna selection to reduce complexity in signal processing at the receivers. We distinguish two kinds of mobile users, device-to-device (D2D) users and traditional users. In such MISO PDMA, there exists a trade-off between outage performance of each PDMA user and power allocation factors. Since the implementation of the FD scheme at PDMA users, bandwidth efficiency will be enhanced despite the existence of self-interference related to such FD. In particular, exact expressions of outage probability are derived to exhibit system performance with respect to D2D users. Finally, valuable results from the simulated parameters together with the analytical results show that MISO PDMA can improve its performance by increasing the number of transmit antennas at the BS.

Cellular vehicle-to-everything (C-V2X) communication facilitates the improved safety, comfort, and efficiency of vehicles and mobility by exchanging information between vehicles and other entities. In general, only the macrocell or only the femtocell is the communication infrastructure for C-V2X. Currently, a macro-femtocell network is used as the new C-V2X networking architecture. However, there are two unresolved problems for C-V2X in macro-femtocell networks. Firstly, vehicle mobility requires the frequent switching of connections between different base stations; invalid switching results in worse communication quality. Secondly, unintelligent base station selections cause network congestion and network-load imbalance. To address the above challenges, this paper proposes a base station selection strategy based on a Markov decision policy for a vehicle in a macro-femtocell system. Firstly, we present a mechanism to predict received signal strength (RSS) for base station selection. Secondly, a comparing Markov decision policy algorithm is presented in C-V2X. To the best of our knowledge, this is the first attempt to achieve predicted RSS based on a Markov decision policy in C-V2X technology. To validate the proposed mechanism, we simulated the traditional base station selection and our proposal when the vehicle moved at different speeds. This demonstrates that the effectiveness of a traditional base station selection policy is obvious only at high speeds, and this weakness can be resolved by our proposal. Then, we compare our solution with the traditional base station selection policy. The simulation results show that our solution is effective at switching connections between base stations, and it can effectively prevent the overloading of network resources.

AbstractIn this paper, we proposed a novel power allocation algorithm based on hierarchical game in 5G heterogeneous integrated networks. The radio network controller is the first layer, the base stations are the second layer, and the base station users are the third layer. The stackelberg game model is used between the first and second layers, in which the radio network controller is the leader and the base stations are the followers. The radio network controller sets the interference prices for the base stations and the users in the third layer can update their transmission power by non-cooperative game based on the setting interference price. According to the proposed scheme, the users power allocation can reach the Nash equilibrium through by non-cooperative game and obtain the optimal transmission power. Moreover, it is proved that the equilibrium solution is composed of the optimal price and the optimal transmission power, and the convergence of this algorithm is also verified. The simulation results show that the proposed algorithm can decrease the interference and improve the system capacity.

The article consideres the problems of determining the need to modernize the base stations of the cellular network based on the mathematical apparatus of the theory of fuzzy sets. To improve the quality of telecommunications services the operators should send significant funding for upgrading the equipment of base stations. Modernization can improve and extend the functions of base stations to provide cellular communication, increase the reliability of the base station in operation and the functionality of its individual elements, and reduce the cost of maintenance and repair when working on a cellular network. The complexity in collecting information about the equipment condition is determined by a large number of factors that affect its operation, as well as the imperfection of obtaining and processing the information received. For a comprehensive assessment of the need for modernization, it is necessary to take into account a number of indicators. In the structure of indicators of the need for modernization, there were introduced the parameters reflecting both the degree of aging and obsolescence(the technical gap and the backlog in connection with the emergence of new technologies and standards). In the process of a problem solving, the basic stages of decision-making on modernization have been allocated. Decision-making on the need for modernization is based not only on measuring information that takes into account the decision-makers, but also on linguistic and verbal information. Therefore, to determine the need for upgrading the base stations, the theory of fuzzy sets is used, with the help of which experts can be attracted to this issue. They will be able to formulate additional fuzzy judgments that help to take into account not only measuring characteristics, but also poorly formalized fuzzy information. To do this, the main indicators of the modernization need have been defined, and fuzzy estimates of the need for modernization for all indicators and a set of indicators reflecting the need for upgrading the base stations have been formulated.

Introduction:Effective synthesis of а mobile communication network includes joint optimisation of two processes: placement of base stations and frequency assignment. In real environments, the well-known cellular concept fails due to some reasons, such as not homogeneous traffic and non-isotropic wave propagation in the service area.Purpose:Looking for the universal method of finding a network structure close to the optimal. Results:The proposed approach is based on the idea of adaptive vector quantization of the network service area. As a result, it is reduced to a 2D discrete map split into zones with approximately equal number of service requests. In each zone, the algorithm finds such coordinates of its base station that provide the shortest average distance to all subscribers. This method takes into account the shortage of the a priory information about the current traffic, ensures maximum coverage of the service area, and what is not less important, significantly simplifies the process of frequency assignment.

Abstract A water quality sampling programme for James Bay territory established in a previous study has been carried out for the Department of Natural Resources of the Province of Quebec. The network is composed of 5 base-stations, sampled every fortnight to determine the variability with time of the parameters and 16 satellite-stations, sampled five times yearly with a view to determine the spatial variability. The data (major ions and certain nutrients) gathered during the 1974–1975 field survey are subjected to an analysis by a multivariate technique (correspondence analysis) in addition to certain classical statistical methods. The latter have shown that the mean values obtained at satellite stations were representative of the annual mean. In addition, the results permit the determination for a given parameter, of the relationship between stations and, for a given station, the relationship between parameters. In both cases, the formulation of predictive equations was attempted. An overall evaluation of the data by correspondence analysis has permitted: - a more precise definition of the qualitative behaviour of the different sub-basins of the James Bay territory and characterization of their waters;- a proof of the existence of gradual concentration changes in both East-West and North-South directions. Within the original objectives of the network, the results of the study have led to the following recommendations: - to continue synchronised samplings;- to transform a base station with a low information content into a satellite station;- to create a new base station in the eastern part of the territory.
