Estimation of the quality of food products is vital in determining the properties and validity of the food concerning the baking and other manufacturing processes. This article considers the quality estimation of the wheat bread that is baked under standard conditions. The sensory data are collected in real-time, and the obtained data are analysed using the efficient data analytics to predict the quality of the product. The dataset obtained consists of 300 bread samples prepared in 15 days whose vital physical, chemical, and rheological measures are sensed. The measures of the read are obtained through sensory tools and are gathered as a dataset. The obtained data are generally raw, and hence, the required features are obtained through dimensionality reduction using the Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA). The processed data and the attributes are given as input to the classifier to obtain final estimation results. The efficient Fuzzy Weighted Relevance Vector Machine (FWRVM) classifier model is developed for this achieving this objective. The proposed quality estimation model is implemented using the MATLAB programming environment with the required setting for the FWRVM classifier. The model is trained and tested with the input dataset with data analysis steps. Some state-of-the-art classifiers are also implemented to compare the evaluated performance of the proposed model. The estimation accuracy is obtained by comparing the number of correctly detected bread classes with the wrongly classified breads. The results indicate that the proposed FWRVM-based classifier estimates the quality of the breads with 96.67% accuracy, 96.687% precision, 96.6% recall, and 96.6% F-measure within 8.96726 seconds processing time which is better than the compared Support vector machine (SVM), RVM, and Deep Neural Networks (DNN) classifiers.

According to the statistics of maritime collision accidents over the last five years (2016–2020), 95% of the total maritime collision accidents are caused by human factors. Machine learning algorithms are an emerging approach in judging the risk of collision among vessels and supporting reliable decision-making prior to any behaviors for collision avoidance. As the result, it can be a good method to reduce errors caused by navigators’ carelessness. This article aims to propose an enhanced machine learning method to estimate ship collision risk and to support more reliable decision-making for ship collision risk. In order to estimate the ship collision risk, the conventional support vector machine (SVM) was applied. Regardless of the advantage of the SVM to resolve the uncertainty problem by using the collected ships’ parameters, it has inherent weak points. In this study, the relevance vector machine (RVM), which can present reliable probabilistic results based on Bayesian theory, was applied to estimate the collision risk. The proposed method was compared with the results of applying the SVM. It showed that the estimation model using RVM is more accurate and efficient than the model using SVM. We expect to support the reasonable decision-making of the navigator through more accurate risk estimation, thus allowing early evasive actions.

This paper presents an approach for retrieval of soil moisture content (SMC) by coupling single polarization C-band synthetic aperture radar (SAR) and optical data at the plot scale in vegetated areas. The study was carried out at five different sites with dominant vegetation cover located in Kenya. In the initial stage of the process, different features are extracted from single polarization mode (VV polarization) SAR and optical data. Subsequently, proper selection of the relevant features is conducted on the extracted features. An advanced state-of-the-art machine learning regression approach, the support vector regression (SVR) technique, is used to retrieve soil moisture. This paper takes a new look at soil moisture retrieval in vegetated areas considering the needs of practical applications. In this context, we tried to work at the object level instead of the pixel level. Accordingly, a group of pixels (an image object) represents the reality of the land cover at the plot scale. Three approaches, a pixel-based approach, an object-based approach, and a combination of pixel- and object-based approaches, were used to estimate soil moisture. The results show that the combined approach outperforms the other approaches in terms of estimation accuracy (4.94% and 0.89 compared to 6.41% and 0.62 in terms of root mean square error (RMSE) and R2), flexibility on retrieving the level of soil moisture, and better quality of visual representation of the SMC map.

Because the reflectivity of astaxanthin vary in different bands (mainly 400nm-600nm), so we use the visible-near infrared spectra technique to irradiate the salmon. Because in daily life, people grade the salmon flesh with a color card. In this paper, we first use principal component analysis to reduce the dimensionality of the spectral data of salmon, then use linear discriminant analysis method, least squares support vector machine classification method to distinguish the flesh quality. The correct classification rates are 60%and73.3%. The results show that we can use visible – near infrared spectra to distinguish the quality of the salmon which doesn’t be dissected.

Delivering high Quality of Experience (QoE) is essential to the success of today’s subscription for internet video streaming services. Quality of Service (QoS) metrics are considered by the research community as the most influential factor on video QoE. Therefore, establishing QoS-QoE correlation becomes critical for improving video QoE estimation. This paper presents experimental development of effective correlation between QoE and QoS for both 2D and 3D video streaming services. This is then used to build an objective QoE estimation model for real-time streaming of both 2D and 3D video contents over wireless networks. This model is based on using Adaptive Neural Fuzzy Inference System (ANFIS) to estimate the perceived video QoE. The proposed QoE model was trained with a set of media and packet layers’ metrics, taking into account the effect of video content type, dimension, and different packet loss metrics. The performance of the proposed QoE estimation model shows a considerable estimation accuracy with a correlation coefficient of 92% and 0.167 RMSE.

The timely knowledge of forage quality of grasslands is vital for matching the demands in animal feeding. Remote sensing (RS) is a promising tool for estimating field-scale forage quality compared with traditional methods, which usually do not provide equally detailed information. However, the applicability of RS prediction models depends on the variability of the underlying calibration data, which can be brought about by the inclusion of a multitude of grassland types and management practices in the model development. Major aims of this study were (i) to build forage quality estimation models for multiple grassland types based on an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-borne imaging spectroscopy and (ii) to generate forage quality distribution maps using the best models obtained. The study examined data from eight grasslands in northern Hesse, Germany, which largely differed in terms of vegetation type and cutting regime. The UAV with a hyperspectral camera on board was utilised to acquire spectral images from the grasslands, and crude protein (CP) and acid detergent fibre (ADF) concentration of the forage was assessed at each cut. Five predictive modelling regression algorithms were applied to develop quality estimation models. Further, grassland forage quality distribution maps were created using the best models developed. The normalised spectral reflectance data showed the strongest relationship with both CP and ADF concentration. From all predictive algorithms, support vector regression provided the highest precision and accuracy for CP estimation (median normalised root mean square error prediction (nRMSEp) = 10.6%), while cubist regression model proved best for ADF estimation (median nRMSEp = 13.4%). The maps generated for both CP and ADF showed a distinct spatial variation in forage quality values for the different grasslands and cutting regimes. Overall, the results disclose that UAV-borne imaging spectroscopy, in combination with predictive modelling, provides a promising tool for accurate forage quality estimation of multiple grasslands.

Predicting the probability of hospital readmission is one of the most vital issues and is considered to be an important research area in the healthcare sector. For curing any of the diseases that might arise, there shall be some essential resources such as medical staff, expertise, beds and rooms. This secures getting excellent medical service. For example, heart failure (HF) or diabetes is a syndrome that could reduce the living quality of patients and has a serious influence on systems of healthcare. The previously mentioned diseases can result in high rate of readmission and hence high rate of costs as well. In this case, algorithms of machine learning are utilized to curb readmissions levels and improve the life quality of patients. Unluckily, a comparatively few numbers of researches in the literature endeavored to address this issue while a large proportion of researches were interested in predicting the probability of detecting diseases. Despite there is a plainly visible shortage on this topic, this paper seeks to spot most of the studies related to predict the probability of hospital readmission by the usage of machine learning techniques such as such as Logistic Regression (LR), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs), Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA), Bayes algorithm, Random Forest (RF), Decision Trees (DTs), AdaBoost and Gradient Boosting (GB). Specifically, we explore the different techniques used in a medical area under the machine learning research field. In addition, we define four features that are used as criteria for an effective comparison among the employed techniques. These features include goal, data size, method, and performance. Furthermore, some recommendations are drawn from the comparison which is related to the selection of the best techniques in the medical field. Based on the outcomes of this research, it was found out that (bagging and DT) is the best technique to predict diabetes, whereas SVM is the best technique when it comes to prediction the breast cancer, and hospital readmission.

Tea is one of the most popular beverages in the world, and its processing involves a number of steps which includes fermentation. Tea fermentation is the most important step in determining the quality of tea. Currently, optimum fermentation of tea is detected by tasters using any of the following methods: monitoring change in color of tea as fermentation progresses and tasting and smelling the tea as fermentation progresses. These manual methods are not accurate. Consequently, they lead to a compromise in the quality of tea. This study proposes a deep learning model dubbed TeaNet based on Convolution Neural Networks (CNN). The input data to TeaNet are images from the tea Fermentation and Labelme datasets. We compared the performance of TeaNet with other standard machine learning techniques: Random Forest (RF), K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN), Decision Tree (DT), Support Vector Machine (SVM), Linear Discriminant Analysis (LDA), and Naive Bayes (NB). TeaNet was more superior in the classification tasks compared to the other machine learning techniques. However, we will confirm the stability of TeaNet in the classification tasks in our future studies when we deploy it in a tea factory in Kenya. The research also released a tea fermentation dataset that is available for use by the community.

Wind forecasting is one of the best efficient ways to deal with the challenges of wind power generation. Due to the depletion of fossil fuels renewable energy sources plays a major role for the generation of power. For future management and for future utilization of power, we need to predict the wind speed.  In this paper, an efficient hybrid forecasting approach with the combination of Support Vector Machine (SVM) and Artificial Neural Networks(ANN) are proposed to improve the quality of prediction of wind speed. Due to the different parameters of wind, it is difficult to find the accurate prediction value of the wind speed. The proposed hybrid model of forecasting is examined by taking the hourly wind speed of past years data by reducing the prediction error with the help of Mean Square Error by 0.019. The result obtained from the Artificial Neural Networks improves the forecasting quality.

This work demonstrated the possibility of using the data mining techniques such as artificial neural networks (ANN) and support vector machine (SVM) based model to predict the quality of the spinning yarn parameters. Three different kernel functions were used as SVM kernel functions which are Polynomial and Radial Basis Function (RBF) and Pearson VII Function-based Universal Kernel (PUK) and ANN model were used as data mining techniques to predict yarn properties. In this paper, it was found that the SVM model based on Person VII kernel function (PUK) have the same performance in prediction of spinning yarn quality in comparison with SVM based RBF kernel. The comparison with the ANN model showed that the two SVM models give a better prediction performance than an ANN model.
