Rehabilitation engineering, as one of the active research areas in biomedical science, needs further investigations and improvements. The process of rehabilitation, whether after a stroke, ligament, or accident-related injuries, is commonly based on clinical assessment tools, which can be executed, either by self-reported (home-based) treatment or through observer-rated therapy. However, people with reduced mobility (e.g., stroke, surgical, and ligament patients) can benefit from rehabilitation programs only if effective and appropriate assistive tools are provided. In this paper, a new internet of things (IoT)-based telemonitoring system is introduced for knee injuries’ rehabilitation (Knee-Rehab). The proposed system is a real-time rehabilitation and monitoring framework designed to be a portable, home-based, and online-based instrument comprised of bio-mechanical, bio-instrumentation and IoT-based elements. The system helps patients to rest at home after surgeries or physical treatment, do their rehab-exercises, and receive suggestions form their advisors, which gain the ability to monitor the situation over the exercising time and propose necessary medication/activities to be followed by the patients accordingly, based on their current status. The experimental measurements show the high accuracy achieved by the developed system in terms of monitored knee joint angle, where the maximum error is 3.5° compared to manual goniometer measurements.

One of the effective treatments for patients recovering from acute cardiac illness or surgery is cardiac rehabilitation (CR). CR has proven to be effective to reduce mortality, morbidity, and also to improve the quality of life. The purpose of this review is to present the current status of CR program worldwide as well as to identify a potential approach for further investigation. Literature searching of electronic databases was conducted in several databases including CINAHL, MEDLINE, PsycINFO, and EMBASE, and Google Scholar. CR aims to restore patients with CVD to a state of good health. Each country has different approach in the provision and organization of CR as well as the allocation of resources, which depends on their health policies and politics. The indications for CR also differ between countries, but traditionally CR has been used following acute myocardial infarction (MI). CR programs have been divided into three phases of progression. Hospital-based or supervised site-based programs have been known as the most common model of CR in most countries. The core components of CR include patient assessment, nutritional counselling, exercise training, physical activity counselling, weight management, tobacco cessation, aggressive coronary risk-factor management, and psychosocial management. Despite the apparent benefits of CR in patients with CVD, these programs remain largely underused. The participation rates in the USA, Australia, and Europe are low, estimated at 10-30%. New research areas that explore new ways of CR delivery to improve referral and participation rates are essential.

This research aims at throwing light on applications of biological rapid assessment tools in the monitoring of environmental quality in Runde River catchment with intensive commercial sugarcane production. Burdened with drudgery in wet laboratory techniques, biological sensors (biosensors) and sensors can integrate catchment data from rapid assessment techniques to networks or Internet of Things (IoT). This research examines the techniques presented by biosensors and sensors and provides the checkboxes for sustained catchment monitoring. With available recent evidence from surveys it turns out the Runde River may not be polluted but this may reflect the time the survey was undertaken and suggestions made for routine checks

AbstrakTechnological advances today are very developed, so it can help the community in monitoring home security. One example is offices or houses owned by themselves. In this research I am interested in doing research and development in the field of IoT where this research aims to build a system that can help homeowners to provide security at the door of the house during remote travel. With fingerprint system equipped with door monitoring using botTelegram this system itself is implemented with the concept of internet of things (IoT). In this study using the concept of internet of things implemented in the automatic door system using microcontroller that serves as a prototype regulator so that the prototype can run properly. In this system has an interface in the form of Telegram-based applications by utilizing BotTelegram that serves as a communication tool between users and the system. In this system, users can monitor the security of the door when traveling or at home. Based on the results of the study, it can be concluded that the system can run with a percentage of 85% where the system can open automatic doors with fingerprint configuration data that has been registered in the fingerprint module. Keywords: Internet of things, fingerprints, telegram bots, nodemcu, Door Security

With the ever increasing research in communication technology, smart systems and gadgets are emerging at a very fast pace. A recent trend is the research in internet of things (IoT) which facilitates access of information and services at any point of time around the globe thus elevating the process of digitization to a new era. Multi homing is a concept which facilitates connection of a user over multiple networks. These networks may be heterogeneous or homogeneous. This concept of multihoming acts as a strong backbone to wireless sensor networks where routing of information over the links and channels is quite a critical process. The routing of information from source to destination defines the overall accuracy of the entire wireless network. This efficiency largely dictated by an efficient routing process is influenced by many factors which include node efficiency, node lifetime, and the characteristics of the link between the nodes.

Nanotechnology is a science concerned with the design, construction and utilization of functional structures with at least one characteristic dimension measured in nanometres. Nanotechnology initially developed in the fields of physics and chemistry, and most fundamental developments still occur in these fields. Nanotechnology also needs to be applied in areas such as the engineering field. Obviously, the application of nanotechnology to science and engineering has increased in other fields over the years. One area which is one of the most active research areas in the field of nanotechnology is civil engineering. Anytime-wireless-everywhere (AWE) aspirations for Internet-of-Things (IoT) applications to be enabled through current 5G and evolving 6G and beyond ecosystems necessitate the development of innovative electrically small antennas (ESAs). While a variety of ESA systems are reviewed, those realized from the near-field resonant parasitic (NFRP) antenna paradigm are emphasized. Efficiency, bandwidth and directivity issues are highlighted. Multifunctional, reconfigurable, passive and active systems that have been achieved are discussed and illustrated; their performance characteristics and advantages described. This overview finalizes by going back to the future and considers enterprising research areas of current and forward-looking interest.


This chapter provides a summary of a number of organisations which are active in IAM researches. The technological and application contributions from each of the IAM contributing organisations, their key deliverables and the active research areas are discussed with the sole purpose in enlightening the knowledge base of the readers.

The phrase Internet of Things (IoT) heralds a vision of the future Internet where connecting physical things, from banknotes to bicycles, through a network will let them take an active part in the Internet, exchanging information about themselves and their surroundings. This will give immediate access to information about the physical world and the objects in it leading to innovative services and increase in efficiency and productivity. In general, it may be beneficial to incorporate a number of the technologies of IoT with the use of services that can act as the bridge between each technology and the applications that developers wish to implement in IoT. This chapter studies the state-of-the-art of IoT and presents the key potential applications, challenges and future research areas in the domain of IoT. This chapter presents four main categories of services according to technical features. Some major issues of future research in IoT are identified and discussed briefly.


The concept of internet of things, or IoT as it is popularly referred to, came into being when it was discovered that it is possible for computers to communicate with devices ranging from simple home appliances to industrial machinery and equipment without the need for any human intervention. The fact that IoT makes it possible for computers to simplify manufacturing processes and bring about a radical change in our daily lives, making this technology an important step forward and in tandem with cloud computing. In this chapter, the authors discuss the contributions that IoT can make in construction industry. With IoT it is possible for a machine to let a remote computer know from any part of the world its current status and physical disposition. For construction firms that need to operate machinery and equipment in distant locations, IoT makes it possible to collect monitor and manage in real-time.

Abstract Objective To evaluate home-based teleneuropsychology in a pediatric cohort to determine if assessment via in-person and home-based videoconference yield similar results. The second objective was to determine the level of satisfaction with videoconference-based assessment among participants and caregivers. Method Fifty-eight participants, aged 6–20 years, were recruited through specialty programs for pediatric demyelinating disorders. Each participant was administered the same brief neuropsychological battery of common measures twice, once during an in-person session and once during a remote home-based videoconference session. Order of sessions was counterbalanced and time between assessments ranged from 1 to 50 days. It was hypothesized that results obtained through in-person vs. remote videoconference sessions would not be significantly different and that most participants and caregivers would rate the experience with teleneuropsychology as satisfactory. Results Mann–Whitney U tests showed no significant differences in results obtained in the in-person first vs. remote videoconference first sessions or the change in performance across sessions. Satisfaction ratings by participants and caregivers were largely favorable for the use of the videoconference testing format. Conclusions The current study is the first to validate home-based teleneuropsychology and is the first to validate teleneuropsychological assessment in a pediatric sample. Future studies should replicate these findings as well as expand on sample size, diversity of populations evaluated, and the assessment tools administered. Careful consideration of ethical and practical factors should be given before providing pediatric teleneuropsychology services.
