Abstract This paper is mainly based on interviews and observations that the author made during the process of writing a book about a hundred forms of religious and spiritual movements, teachings, and techniques in Estonia, thus being a reflection of trends and transformations of spiritual thought and practice in a country that has been repeatedly called the least religious country in Europe or even the whole world. Bringing some topical case analyses from this empirical material, the article will offer an amended interpretative framework for discussing features that are relevant in the research of Western contemporary spiritualities, for example multiple, situational, and fluctuating spiritual identities incongruent with the use of stable categories in religiosity statistics; children as important spiritual agents; mediatized liquidity and hybridity of spiritual thought being part of the ‘all-inclusive’ and ‘open-ended’ spiritual environment; and public conflicts and private symbioses of scientific, spiritual, and religious worldviews.

The article actualizes the concept of «Soviet man» as a socio-cultural and philosophical-anthropological phenomenon. Based on a broad empirical material, the author substantiates the idea of the project «Soviet man» as a generalized artistic image, a set of social and moral characteristics, visual and verbal matrices. The integration of the cultural project with the world tradition (in particular, the ancient one) is established, and the artistic-aesthetic and socio-political aspects of works of art as cultural practices are substantiated. It is concluded that the considered concept incorporates human experience, which is in demand due to its diversity, tendentiousness, structural certainty, strangeness and recognizability.

This paper offers a preliminary examination of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) commitments and agendas being addressed and reported by the UK‟s leading retailers. The paper begins with a short discussion of the characteristics and origins of CSR and of the current structure of retailing in the UK. This is followed by an illustrative examination of the CSR issues publicly reported by the UK‟s top ten country of origin retailers and the paper draws its empirical material from the CSR reports posted on the World Wide Web by these retailers. The findings reveal that the UK‟s top ten retailers are addressing and reporting on four sets of CSR themes namely those relating to the environment; the marketplace; the workplace and the community. The paper concludes with a discussion of a number of general issues relating to these themes.  <br /><br />

Transformations of the semantics of language units in a literary text were studied. Semantic shifts resulting from this process were correlated with individual author’s ideas about the world and were defined as the most important means of influencing the reader. The research was carried out on the basis of a functional approach, in which the text is considered as a tool of social interaction, the structure of which is subordinated to the main task of the author, i.e., to have a certain impact on the reader’s view of the world. As a result of the analysis of the empirical material, it was concluded that the perception and understanding of the text are largely determined by the skills that enable identification of the core component in the text, which unites the most significant language units in the text based on their correlation in the initial and final parts of the work. Specific examples were given to show the role of semantic transformations in the process of text perception and their importance for interpretation. The research confirms the relevance of the problem of studying the functional mechanism of semantic transformations, because the consistent implementation of the functional methods of perception and interpretation of the text in educational practice will be helpful in developing teaching methods that prevent distortion of information extracted from texts.

The article reconstructs the unfinished dialogue between Arnason and Castoriadis, with a particular emphasis on the problematic of world articulation. Arnason’s thought is situated as reconfiguring classical sociological constellations, especially as they pertain to the revitalization of the civilizational problematic and the emphasis on the philosophical dimension of sociological investigation. His interpretative framework is located within the nascent field of post-transcendental phenomenology, which he elaborates via the overlapping problematics of cultural articulations of the world as an inter-cultural horizon, and the human condition as various modes of being-in-the-world. Arnason’s encounter with Castoriadis is considered. Despite the many points of fruitful contact, Castoriadis’ neglect of the phenomenological question of the world as a ‘shared horizon’ is, in Arnason’s view, too great to overcome; Arnason looks instead to Weber, Merleau-Ponty and, more recently, Patočka for interpretative resources. Although Castoriadis’ elucidation of the world proceeds ‘in fragments’, the article contends that hermeneutical reconstruction of his thought reveals openings onto the problematic of elemental world orders that can further the dialogue with Arnason.

Watch the VIDEO here.New forms of evaluation are reconfiguring science in ways we are only beginning to understand. In this talk, I will address a key challenge in social-scientific research regarding how evaluations are implicated in scientific understandings of the world. I will address how public sector transformations (including a stronger emphasis on national economic goals such as innovation and growth) are introducing highly particular notions of ‘good’ performance and uses of evaluative metrics. Using empirical material and results from recent projects, the talk will reflect on how these trends are affecting knowledge production processes in different fields. I will also suggest ways to think more creatively and responsibly about the affordances of evaluation and indicators in academic settings.

The present study is devoted to the identification of structural, semantic and functional features of the expression’s means of the motivation’s category by the example of the analysis of the using explicit and implicit forms of the implementation of the voluntative function of a language in the poetic works of the Austrian poetess Ingeborg Bachman and the Ossetian poet Nafi Dzhusoity. The ways of implementing the category of motivation in a poetic text are considered through the prism of German- and Ossetian-speaking linguocultures. The choice of a linguoculturological approach to the study of direct and indirect forms of verbalization of the voluntative function in poetic texts is explained by the close relationship of language and culture. The picture of the world, which includes certain ideas about the surrounding reality, determines the characteristic features of the author's idiostyle, determining the choice of certain artistic means. The analysis of the means of will’s expression allowed us to conclude about the high density of the use of imperative forms in the poetic works of I. Bakhman and N. Dzhusoity. In particular, there is a wider use of the grammatically marked form – imperative – in the texts of both authors. According to the results of the study, the imperative can be qualified as the dominant form of expression of the motivation’s category in both German and Ossetian languages. Further study of the poetic works of these authors revealed the predominance of direct means of representation of voluntary semantics in the texts of I. Bakhman and indirect forms – in the poetic works of N. Dzhusoity. This observation allows us to make a preliminary conclusion about the differences in the German- and Ossetian-speaking linguocultures, which, of course, needs confirmation based on the analysis of more extensive empirical material. Therefore, basing on the conducted research, we can conclude that for the most complete and correct study of the national picture of the world, an analysis of the poet's idiostyle at different language levels – pragmatics, semantics and grammar – is necessary.

Kulturphilosophie deterministic constant in the fate of Russian drama is presented through the presence and the severity of the aesthetic paradoxes. The author sees an attempt of the Russian drama of the XX century "to come off" from own roots. The book analyzes the experience of modern drama theory (Pushkin), genre paradoxes (Gogol), the formation of a specific picture of the world that anticipated the birth of the European drama of absurdity (Chekhov), as well as the experience of the Russian drama of the twentieth century. at the personal level (Gorky, Rozov) and at the level of trends (the search for a "positive hero" at the turn of 1970-1980, the Russian drama of absurdity, verbal aggression in the word). Innovative is about the Seminary "theory of drama as a cultural-philosophical horizon", which allows to actualize the analysis of the presented theoretical and empirical material through a specific categorical apparatus.
