The current revival of William Stringfellow's theological ethics is a challenge for preachers. Stringfellow's theology of the powers provides a compelling contemporary interpretation of the demonic forces that shape human life and confront Christian preachers. His work has extraordinary implications for those who seek to proclaim the Word amidst the chaos and death of the contemporary world.

With the movie The Killing of a Sacred Deer , Jorgos Lanthimos takes the value sacred from superhuman powers and makes it mundane. It is claimed that queen Clytemnestra, one of the heroes of Euripides’ tragedy Iphigenia at Aulis, does not believe in superhuman powers. This is because Clytemnestra considers the event of killing of her own daughter Iphigenia a murder rather than a sacrifice. In The Killing of a Sacred Deer, Lanthimos interprets the killing of Iphigenia as a “sacrifice” by her own father, King Agamemnon, to question the relations between the people of the contemporary world. Are the killings of Iphigenia and Martin’s father, Jonathan Lang, sacrifices or murders? Whatever the answer is, the idea that both the film and the tragedy suggest is that what should be considered sacred is life. King Agamemnon, who killed his own daughter, and surgeon Steven, who caused the death of his own patient, are expected to pay the price for the loss of life they caused. But how? What could be the cost of a human life? As a result, the contribution of the movie The Killing of a Sacred Deer to the people of the contemporary world is that it re-examines the values of “sacred” and “sacrifice.”

In our time of an information highway, digital networks are linked around the clock. Among various data many people are unconsciously depending on IT and digital medias with their body––but without any mind. The human origin, its creative thinking and acting, transmitting one idea to another for reforming and developing something new has been quite forgotten. Against this omnipresent phenomenon the Zen Buddhist Philosophy of Mind shows a dynamic approach to re-create and re-construct a human life, accompanied by the unique concept of the absolute one, “mu” (無), mu-shin (無心), the mind of mu presents a dynamic unity in its flexible activity.

Mawaddah (love) and raḥmah (mercy) at home are the essences of building a sakīnah (peaceful) and healthy domestic relationship. In reality, not all domestic relationships are living in a mawaddah and raḥmah environment. A domestic relationship can be the source of exploitation, abuse, and violence. All these issues are affecting one’s health, whether it is physical or psychological health. They can also act as a root cause of a dysfunctional domestic relationship, leading towards societal malfunction, if they are not dealt with wisely. Two questions arise: How does one achieve domestic harmony? What is the basis of engendering domestic harmony? In this contemporary world, it is critical to realise that the Maqāṣid, or objectives, of the Sharīʻah play a pivotal role in engendering domestic harmony. By using maqāṣidic approach, this paper seeks to address what Maqāṣid al-Sharīʻah consists of and to highlight the concept of domestic harmony, encompassing the concept of marriage and family in Islam. As a result, by utilising the Maqāṣid al-Sharīʻah framework, it offers a significant contribution to engendering domestic harmony, benefiting societal development and the betterment of human life.

The article presents a theological analysis of Pope Francis’ statements on the sanctity of life with reference to familiological issues. The aim of the research undertaken is to show the value of human life resulting from the relationship between the elements that create the created reality and with God. According to Francis, holiness is closeness to God and the ‘divine space’ in which all creation exists and functions. The sanctity of »life« is shown by the Pope in the following aspects: 1) theological – as an expression of the integration of creation with God, 2) social – as the principle of existence and relations, and 3) defensive – as an imperative to defend the life of every human being. The family is presented by the Pope as a sanctuary of life, a place of sanctifying love and a school of holiness. The conclusions resulting from the theological analysis of papal statements indicate the need for a ‘familiological turn’ encompassing the space of culture and civilization of the contemporary world. Such a turn is necessary for the good of the man for whom the family is the first social circle. The sanctity of life in the familiological area is the principle that defines the sacredness of the family and the determinant of intra-family relationships that develop love.

AbstractRapid development of civilization, observed in the contemporary world, makes human life easier, but at the same time, it brings a lot of dangers and threats. Constant ‘race against the clock’, moving from one place to another, stress and fatigue result in a growing number of traffic accidents which claim the lives and health of adults as well as children. Most of the injuries are multiple traumatic injuries that affect two or more bodily organs or systems and cause damage to at least two body areas. They constitute exceptionally difficult, interdisciplinary therapeutic problem which is the most frequent cause of death and development of a disease in children over 3 years old.The aim of this research study was to conduct a retrospective analysis of physiotherapeutic procedures applied in the course of treatment of multiple trauma in children hospitalized in the Voivodship Medical Centre in Opole (Wojewódzkie Centum Medyczne). It was carried out in the group of 9 children aged 5-17 in the years of 2011-2013. As multiorgan injuries in children affect a developing body, they require a professional, interdisciplinary, therapeutic proceeding. The analysis of the ways of treatment shows that after securing basic vital functions of the children and the stabilization of their health, physiotherapy takes its turn. Its main role is to restore child’s physical ability, which was disordered due to the injury, as much as it is possible. According to the analysis of clinical and therapeutic progress in all 9 patients suffering from multi-organ injuries, an attempt has been undertaken to set the scheme of physiotherapeutic proceeding in such cases. Preparing the scheme, all basic rules of physiotherapeutic proceeding have been taken into consideration, namely, introducing therapeutic activities as soon as possible taking into account patient’s condition and the extent of damage/injury.The analysis proved that physiotherapy in multiple trauma is a complicated process that involves many techniques, methods and procedures. Moreover, every physiotherapeutic treatment ought to be adjusted individually to the patient depending on their condition and dysfunctions. Skilful management of the rehabilitation process significantly accelerates patient’s recovery to the extent of proper physical function, and limits the degree of disability after multipletrauma.

The problem we intend to tackle in our study, claims its importance precisely in the thematic antinomy of this approach, conffered by the paradox of analyzing the present through the future. However, we consider that it is much more truthful to carry out an investigation of the present state of humanity from the perspective of its ultimate, meta-historical purpose. The premises from which we start in our research are constituted by certain obvious signals coming from the present state of humanity and which indicate three aspects: 1) reversing the hierarchy of values or the high degree of relativization and contestation of the vertical axis of the apodictic sense and rationality of the world; 2) the predilection of the contemporary man for the immanent and the acute weakening of the taste for the transcendent; 3) the crisis of identity of the person on vertically and on horizontally lines. This project aims to achieve major objectives. One of these is to investigate the extent to which the contemporary world still retains the principle of sense in its evolution, and what is its optics on sense. The conclusion of our research indicates the active manifestation of deist optics on all levels of human life

Purpose. The paper is aimed to explicate a recently emerging anthropological model of homo eudaimonicus from its secular framework perspective. Theoretical basis. Secularity is considered in three aspects with reference to Taylor’s and Habermas’ ideas: as a common public sphere, as a phenomenological experience of living in a Secular Age, and as a background for happiness to become a major common value among other secular values in the Age of Authenticity. The modifications of happiness interpretation are traced from Early Modernity till nowadays. The preconditions of the contemporary appeal to Aristotle’s eudaimonic theory of happiness are elucidated. The main characteristics of homo economicus anthropological model and reasons for its collapse in the contemporary world are analyzed. Specificities of the contemporary interpretations of eudaimonia are described with reference to the works of MacIntyre, Haybron, Hamilton, Kekes, Melnick, and others. A moral foundation and a behavioral strategy of homo eudaimonicus model are expounded and the role of this model in the life of a contemporary individual person and society is revealed. Originality. For the first time in the Ukrainian philosophical discourse, it is shown how secular ethics enables the rise of a new homo eudaimonicus model within a sphere of secularity; and it is argued that homo eudaimonicus is the result of overcoming the values crisis. It is revealed how homo eudaimonicus along with being descriptive becomes also a normative model of a new effective behavior strategy of a contemporary person facing the current social, economic, political, and environmental challenges. Conclusions. According to the contemporary interpretation, happiness as eudaimonia is a combination of the good life and the meaningful life; it is a human flourishing in this world (saeculum) through the accomplishment of a person’s life plan in the sphere of secularity. Homo eudaimonicus manifests the overcoming of values crisis and the rediscovery of purpose and meaning, this time on the secular basis. Homo eudaimonicus implies the realization of a person’s project of a happy and fulfilling life through moral behavior and socially useful activities.

Tremendous technological developments in contemporary world have transformed all aspects of human life. Through interaction with these developments, living spaces should correspond to science and technology and serve to satisfy basic human needs especially safety and security. Due to their geographical and political situation, many countries have been exposed to a variety of natural or man-made threats, and have suffered heavy human and financial losses. For that reason, urban developments should make use of digital architecture products and create fluidity in order to modify human living spaces in correspondence with prerequisites of passive defense, for vulnerability reduction, and expansion of defensive measures in order to create an environment which holds the potential to overcome crises. The present research investigates the benefits of digital technology in formation of living spaces and the impact of approach to flexible urban spaces on mutual interaction between man and environment, as well as the extent to which these transformations create a sense of security and reduce vulnerabilities in urban crises. Fluidity of environment is in paradigm with active human responses to environment. The need for creating an environment safe from risks and threats is the motive behind the approach to flexibility with the use of technological advent. As a part of environment and by relying on computers and geometrical language, technology generates forms which are manifested in all parts and elements of living spaces, thus creating potential and elastic environments. It seems that by creating flexible spaces with the use of digital products, these environmental changes lead to organization of development plans, reduce vulnerability against natural risks and man-made threats, increase efficiency after said threat is realized, and significantly contain the extent and intensity of damages and losses.

Vast transformations in the conditions of human life and the growth of scientific knowledge call for large-scale reconstruction in morality. This is the historical context for the contemporary problem of the relation between empirical knowledge and ethics. The present paper examines the metaethical aspects of this problem. It is argued that the sharp isolation of ethics from empirical science, representing a philosophical convergence of Kantian, phenomenological and positivist theses, should be seen as a distinctive intellectual program in the 20th century ethics and not as an established theory; that this program has by now had its trial and failed, both on the conceptual and the empirical side; that the program rests on a psychology now abandoned in the progress of science. It is suggested that an opposing integrative program which relates empirical knowledge and ethics is more likely to succeed, that it is better grounded psychologically and stands a better chance of a helping deal with the practical problems of morality in the contemporary world. These several theses are explored in outline, with some indication of the way conceptual frameworks in ethics are to be justified in the long run.
