Mawaddah (love) and raḥmah (mercy) at home are the essences of building a sakīnah (peaceful) and healthy domestic relationship. In reality, not all domestic relationships are living in a mawaddah and raḥmah environment. A domestic relationship can be the source of exploitation, abuse, and violence. All these issues are affecting one’s health, whether it is physical or psychological health. They can also act as a root cause of a dysfunctional domestic relationship, leading towards societal malfunction, if they are not dealt with wisely. Two questions arise: How does one achieve domestic harmony? What is the basis of engendering domestic harmony? In this contemporary world, it is critical to realise that the Maqāṣid, or objectives, of the Sharīʻah play a pivotal role in engendering domestic harmony. By using maqāṣidic approach, this paper seeks to address what Maqāṣid al-Sharīʻah consists of and to highlight the concept of domestic harmony, encompassing the concept of marriage and family in Islam. As a result, by utilising the Maqāṣid al-Sharīʻah framework, it offers a significant contribution to engendering domestic harmony, benefiting societal development and the betterment of human life.

Nowadays, entertainment has become part of human life especially to the Muslim young generation. Entertainment is a need at any time and anywhere such as while driving, at home or during leisure time. However, there is a different opinion regarding entertainment itself. Some of the views opine that it is forbidden either through media or any other medium, and there is also an opinion saying that it is only permissible by medium of nasyid. This article intends to explain and discuss the law or ‘hukm’ of media entertainment either by way of hearing the music, song, nasyid or by manner of singing from fiqh and fatwa perspectives. Documentary research method will be adopted in the study and gathering of information on views from the Islamic perspective with regards to this issue. Outcome of research asserts that Islam does not object to music whether in the traditional or modern form as long as it does not transgress with the teachings of Islam. The Fuqaha opine that entertainment is permissible in Islam in so far as it does not contain elements of neglect, badness or forbidden by Islam. Keywords: Entertainment, music, fatwa, traditional, permissible.

In our time of an information highway, digital networks are linked around the clock. Among various data many people are unconsciously depending on IT and digital medias with their body––but without any mind. The human origin, its creative thinking and acting, transmitting one idea to another for reforming and developing something new has been quite forgotten. Against this omnipresent phenomenon the Zen Buddhist Philosophy of Mind shows a dynamic approach to re-create and re-construct a human life, accompanied by the unique concept of the absolute one, “mu” (無), mu-shin (無心), the mind of mu presents a dynamic unity in its flexible activity.

The exceptional pandemic due to the 2019 coronavirus disease (COVID-19) has obliged all Italians to stay at home. In the literature, there are evidences that traumatic global events, such as natural catastrophes and pandemic, have negative effects on the physical and psychological health of the population. We carried out a survey to analyze the physical and psychological conditions of Italians during the pandemic. Due to the severe limitations in moving during the phase one lockdown, the survey was administered by internet. Results show that Italians followed the provisions established by the Italian government to avoid contamination, but 43% of them declared to have suffered from physical symptoms, in particular migraine, sleep disorders, persistent exhaustion, and difficulty of concentration. They have great fear to be contaminated or that relatives or friends can be contaminated, and they actively take actions to avoid contamination. Participants declared that they had suffered a lot of inconveniences due to restrictions in their movements, and that their life habits were strongly changed. They spent their time at home in different activities, but their psychological well-being was strongly impaired by the lockdown. The level of anxiety tripled, in relation to the prepandemic period, and 30% of males and 41% of females declared to have severe levels of depression. Participants with high levels of optimism and hopefulness show a stronger resilience against anxiety and depression. In addition, there is a negative correlation between anxiety and depression and the five factors of personality. These results show that psychological diseases must not be neglected, and that people in lockdown do need support for their psychological health, also with the help of internet and communication technologies.

Along with many physiological changes during normal aging, sleep also changes. Age-related changes in sleep include: a decrease in the duration of night sleep, an increase in the frequency of falling asleep during the day, an increase in the number of night awakenings and time spent without sleep during the night, a decrease in the phase of slow sleep, etc. Most of these changes occur between the young and the middle and remain unchanged in the elderly. In addition, the circadian system and homeostatic sleep mechanisms become less stable with aging. The level and nature of the secretion of hormones acting on sleep change during normal aging, which affects the processes of sleep and wakefulness. Sleep indicators are interrelated and/or dependent on lifestyle, polymorbidity (somatic, psychological), polypharmacy, epigenetic (social, economic, environmental, etc.) factors. Increased average human life expectancy and neuroendocrine changes in physiological and pathological aging, on the one hand, epigenetic factors and electromagnetic information load/overload, on the other hand, made a significant contribution to the circadian nature of human brain neural network interaction with artificial intelligence.

In this essay, I pose the question: what does it mean to be at home in a world where housing is increasingly a private commodity? I draw upon phenomenological analyses of the experience of home from Bachelard and Heidegger, both elaborating upon the fruitful descriptions of home as anchoring our temporal experience, while at the same time critiquing Bachelard’s all too hasty claim that all human beings begin in welcoming homes. As such, I claim that insofar as spaces of dwelling are not simply available in an increasingly precarious world, we ought to commit ourselves both to the work of cultivating more spaces of dwelling, and resisting an economic and political understanding of dwelling that reduces it to a purely material structure, or worse, an essentially fungible commodity or investment property, rather than a place that provides the conditions and parameters for human life.
