Home visits provide a space for officer–supervisee encounters. However, little is known about the dynamics of home visits and their association with supervision outcomes. This study examines the context, content, and role of home visits in parole. Home visits are described using systematic observation data of officer-initiated contacts ( N = 383). The average visit included only those on parole, inside a single-family home, lasted 8 minutes, was conducive to discussions, and covered rules and needs topics. A separate agency records dataset ( N = 26,878) was used to estimate Cox hazard models. Findings suggest that each visit is related to reduced risk of a new felony arrest or a revocation, controlling for criminogenic factors and supervision activities. Risk was further associated with a reduction if officers engaged in mixed-topic discussions (rules and needs). Home visits can enable officers to help people on parole successfully navigate the challenges of reentry.

ABSTRACT Objective: to understand the development of teaching-service integration actions in the training of residents, from the perspective of teachers linked to a Multiprofessional Health Residency Program. Method: qualitative research, of the exploratory and descriptive type, carried out between March and June 2015, with 13 teachers from a semi-structured interview and a systematic observation. Data was organized and analyzed through the operational proposal of thematic analysis. Results: the construction of new spaces for the development of the teaching-service integration in the Multiprofessional Residency in Health is evident, coming from the effective relationship between the university and the health services, besides the insertion of the professionals who were resident in those services, besides challenges that permeate this proposal. Conclusion: the Multiprofessional Health Residency, as a training strategy, tends to broaden health practices by providing residents with the opportunity to participate in a collaborative, dynamic and active process in their professional training. However, the teaching-service integration requires a continuous reflection of the role of each one, in order to stimulate co-responsibility in the pedagogical process according to public health policies and local reality.

The purpose of this study is to describe the experiences of physical education teacher education (PETE) majors enrolled in an internship course that provided them with authentic experiences promoting and facilitating a before-school physical activity (PA) program and to examine the associated implications for PETE programs within the Comprehensive School Physical Activity (CSPAP) framework. In this study, five PETE majors were recruited to participate. Data were collected from several sources including participant observation, interviews, systematic observation, and document analysis. The results show that preservice physical educators struggled with PA promotion as a consequence of perceptions of early programmatic success, feelings of nervousness and influences of their existing beliefs about the role of the physical educator. Therefore, when considering the role of the physical educator relative to a CSPAP, PETE programs should consider making adjustments to their curricula to include experiences that allow preservice teachers to practice skills associated with out-of-class PA promotion.

The impact teachers have on their students is imprinted to a much extent in each person’s life. Every child, teenager or adult speaks of present or previous experiences related to teachers who left their marks on their development in life. Teachers are important people in children’s life providing them with education, discipline, motivation and role-models. The guiding role of teachers is not limited to school classroom and school disciplines, but it surpasses didactic activities and extends into personal life. Truth is that children feel differently the influence exerted by teachers due to their sensitivity, personalities, life experiences. The identification of the aspects that influence students to a greater or less extent is important as it helps to shape a profile of an authentic teacher as s/he is perceived by students. Such a perspective may help teachers become aware of their role in students’ lives and as a consequence they should make adjustments in order to become better partners for their students. The present paper intends to study teachers’ impact on students in their life lifelong development. The aspects taken into consideration, according to specific literature and experiences in classrooms, were: school performances, behavioural patterns, adjustment to school requirements, motivation for learning, professional choices for future careers, outlooks on life. The research methods were the investigation based on questionnaire, the conversation and the systematic observation. The participants in the research were 200 students from two school levels: high school (students 15-19 years old) and faculty (students 19-30 years old). The data collected were processed using the SPSS analysis. The results of the research could be used to increase teachers’ awareness on their impact on students in their lifelong development.

The aim of this study is to investigate the role of Islamic Corporate Social Responsibility in moderating the effect of zakat on Islamic commercial banks’ financial performance. Out of 13 Islamic commercial bank listed by Otoritas Jasa Keuangan from 2012 to 2017, there were only five banks reporting Statement of Zakat Fund Sources and Disbursements. Hence, the final samples of this study consist of 30 observation data. Secondary data collected from 30 annual reports were gathered through documentation. This study utilizes moderated regression analysis to test three research hypotheses. The results shows several findings. Firstly, the amount of corporate zakat being reported in the Statement of Zakat Fund Sources and Disbursements has positive impact on Islamic banks’ financial performance. Secondly, Islamic CSR as measured by Islamic reporting index developed by Belal et al. (2015) has negative impact on Islamic Banks’ financial performance. Thirdly, the role of Islamic CSR in moderating the effect of zakat on financial performance was confirmed.

[This Proceedings paper was revised and published in the journal Issues in Informing Science and Information Technology] Aim/Purpose: This article examines how learning activities draw on resources in the work context to learn. Background: The background is that if knowledge no longer is seen mainly as objects, but processes, how then to understand boundary objects? Our field study of learning activities reveals the use of pictures, documents and emotions for learning in the geographically distributed Norwegian Labor Inspection Authority Methodology: The study is a qualitative study consisting of interview data, observation data, and documents. Contribution Contribute to practice based theorizing. Findings: Three ideal types of representing practices have been identified, i.e., ‘Visualizing’, ‘Documenting’ and ‘Testing’. All three are combined with storytelling, sensing, reflections and sensemaking, which point at the importance of processes in learning. The article also add insights about how emotions can be an important resource for boundary spanning – and sensemaking – by creating the capability of reflecting upon and integrating different knowledge areas in the in- practice context. Recommendations for Practitioners : Look for boundary objects within your field to promote online learning. Recommendation for Researchers: Study boundary objects in work context to understand learning. Impact on Society Role of objects in human learning. Future Research: Focus on how emotions can be used for online learning.

Abstract Abstract Back ground Contradicting results from many laboratories on the role of genetic factors in the susceptibility/resistance to hepatitis B infection have been reported. In this review we examined 27 published full research articles and assessed the role of Th1/Th2 cytokine promoter and vitamin D receptor gene polymorphisms. We summarized the available data on the relationship between the gene polymorphisms and susceptibility/resistance to hepatitis B virus infection together with likely disease evolution to come up with candidate single nucleotide polymorphisms implicated in the disease state with the population. Method The study was done in tandem with the PRISMA standards and the Cochran’s Q test, I2 statistics for heterogeneity and the Odds ratio were calculated using a commercially available soft ware called MedCalcs (http://www.medcalc.org). A random effects model was used to pool the odds ratio for heterogeneities ≥50% or else a fixed effects model was used. All analyses were done at 95% Confidence Interval and a P<0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results We found that IL-10-592C/A genotype AA (P=0.017, OR=0.752, 95%CI=0.595 to 0.950) and TNF-α-238G/A genotype AA+ AG (P<0.001, OR=0.407, 95%CI=0.005 to 30.1) were significantly associated with reduced risk of hepatitis B infection by the random effects model. TNF-α-238G/A genotype GG had the risk of chronic infection (OR=3.587, 95% CI= 0.127 to 101.176) under the random effect model. Most of the other SNPs had borderline risk of HBV infection (OR 0.6 to 1.12) with a few cases of high risk, IL-10-1082A/G genotype AA (OR=1.608, 95%CI=0.861 to 3.003) and reduced risk, IL-10-1082A/G genotype AG (OR=0.485, 95% CI=0.232 to 1.014) Conclusion We found that IL-10-592C/A genotype AA and TNF-α-238G/A genotype AA+ AG were significantly associated with reduced risk of hepatitis B infection.
