An Exploration of the Relationship Between Autonomy Congruence, Perceived Supervisor Individualized Consideration, and Employee Outcomes

Human resource practices requiring employee participation or involvement in work-related decision-making have been commonly believed to be beneficial to work outcomes; however, we suggest that the effects of those practices on work outcomes can be limited by individual preferences, which influence the perceived quality of supervision. Drawing upon prior research on work structure, person–environment (P-E) fit perspective, and perceived organizational support, we examine the joint effects of autonomy and preference for autonomy on employee work outcomes (task performance and organizational citizenship behaviors) that are mediated via perceived supervision (individualized consideration) among U.S. state government employees. The results showed that the congruence between autonomy and preference for autonomy was associated with the highest level of perceived individualized consideration by supervisors, highlighting the important role played by perceptions of the supervisor behavior in promoting employees’ positive attitudes at work.

Previous research on leader-member exchange (LMX) has often viewed the supervisor as the primary recipient of organizational resources. These resources often serve as incentives or catalysts for the subordinates to enter a dyadic relationship with the supervisor. However, this research has overlooked the salient role that subordinates play in the initiation of these relationships and their contributions to the organization. The aim of the present study was to examine LMX and perceived organizational support (POS) simultaneously from the subordinate’s perspective and its impact in the development of LMX and work outcomes. Hayes’ process macro (2013) was used to test the moderation model using a sample of 111 subordinates. Results confirm that subordinate POS moderates the relationship between (LMX) and various work outcomes (job satisfaction, organizational commitment, and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB)). Furthermore, the relationship between LMX and work outcomes was stronger when subordinates had high POS. The implications, limitations, and direction for future research are discussed.

The purpose of this research is to determine the organizational support for professionalism that has never been done before. The research approach is to conceptualize the structure of the relationship of variables from a study. Verification research is to test the hypothesis through data collection in the field using two methods, namely descriptive survey and explanatory survey. The use of both methods aims to analyze the causality relationship between research variables in accordance with the hypothesis quantitatively. There is significant influence between the variables of organizational support to professional variables. However, different results are found on the influence of organizational support variables on OCB and performance that have no significant effect. There is also an indirect influence between organizational support variables on OCB and performance through intermediary intervening professionalism variables. The difference between this research and the previous research are the use of constructs and the measurement in the unit of analysis being used.

This study aimed to investigate level of work ability and quality of life (QOL) as well as the relationship between them among patients suffering from work-related musculoskeletal disorders (WMSDs) in Taiwan. A cross-sectional study design with continuous sampling and a questionnaire were used to obtain the research data. Controlling for personal characteristics, pain, psychological distress, and social support, multiple linear regressions were adopted to explore the relationship between work ability and overall QOL. Further analyses were also made to clarify the relationships between work ability and each domain of QOL. In total, 165 patients with WMSDs were recruited. Compared with general workers, the participants reported a lower level of work ability and overall QOL. Work ability was significantly associated with overall QOL when covariates were controlled. Among the four domains of QOL, work ability was significantly associated with both the physical and psychological domains. The conclusion was that work ability is a definite factor of QOL for patients with WMSDs; the essence of work ability may be beyond economic function or social support. Strategies to help workers with WMSDs enhance their work ability to fit their new or temporary jobs would be beneficial to their QOL.

Organizational citizenship behaviors are not directly rewarded by organizations. However, they seem to contribute to excellent performance at work. The aim of this study is to test quality of working life’s (QoWL) mediating role in the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and organizational citizenship behaviors (OCB). 203 French adults working regularly in teams completed validated self-report measures corresponding to each construct. The collected data showed that in the studied sample, a high quality of working life was associated with Sportsmanship behaviors. However, mediation was not observed for the other OCB subscales: Altruism, Helping, or Civic virtues. These behaviors tend to occur in individuals with high emotional intelligence scores, unrelated to their quality of working life. Theoretical background, practical implications, and limitations of the study are discussed.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether there was a relationship between commitment and the behaviour of organizational citizenship among bank employees. Design/methodology/approach – This paper is based on the outcomes of a doctoral dissertation, which was a case study combining a mix methodology. The results validated the conceptual model proposed by the researcher and answered the research questions. Measurement instruments used include the organizational citizenship scale and the organizational commitment scale, developed and validated by Rosario et al. (2004). Findings – The paper finds that there is a positive correlation between the organizational commitment and the indicators of organizational citizenship behaviour and civic virtue, courtesy and altruism dimensions shown by the employees. The dimensions of affective and moral commitment had the strongest correlation with the civic virtue dimension of organizational citizenship. Research limitations/implications – Sample consist only of private banking employees. Practical implications – The organizations should support the affective and moral commitment in their personnel in order to develop strong citizenship behaviour. Social implications – The organizational commitment with demonstrations of citizenship behaviour, civic virtue, and courtesy and altruism dimensions may impact the organization and the community creating a good base to improve the quality of life. Originality/value – This is the first attempt to study the relationship between organizational commitments and organizational citizenship behaviour in a sample of private banking employees in Puerto Rico.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to obtain empirical evidence, analyze and explain the mediating effect of the quality of work life (QWL), job-retention engagement and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB) on the relationship between transglobal leadership and employee performance. Design/methodology/approach The population in this research is all employees of the most outstanding cooperatives in East Java Province. The method used to analyze the data in this study is generalized structural component analysis. Findings The main findings of this research show that the effects of mediation variables of QWL, job involvement and OCB in transglobal leadership influence employee performance in cooperatives in East Java. These findings are not in line with the Theory of Leadership by Sharkey et al. (2012), and explains the link between behaviors of transglobal leadership and employee performance. The study finds a need for attention in intervening/mediating variables such as QWL, job involvement and OCB as regard the relationship between transglobal leadership and employee performance. Research limitations/implications Transglobal leadership directly affects the QWL, job involvement and OCB: the higher the transglobal leadership, the higher the effect on QWL, job involvement and OCB. However, transglobal leadership has no direct effect on employee performance. Then, QWL, job involvement and OCB are mediating variables between the effects of transglobal leadership on full-mediation employee performance. Social implications To improve the performance of employees of cooperatives, some improvements are needed such as an increase in the quality of a leader’s cooperative approach, especially with transglobal leadership style. However, particularly in the approach, factor of quality of work life, job involvement and OCB cannot be ignored or overriden. Improved leadership capacity, priority for improved business intelligence main factor, while the quality of work-life priorities take precedence in the growth and development factors. Job involvement of preferred priority on self-esteem factor performances, while the main priority organizational citizenship behavior on altruism factor. Employee performance will be improved with the aforementioned ideal conditions, especially on the work factor result. Originality/value Mediation effect of job involvement and OCB, using Sobel test, for assessing the relationship between translgobal leadership and employee performance has not been studied before.

At present many companies around the world are struggling to meet the challenges presented by the organization’s global trends. The workforce has been continuously reminded of the competitiveness and increasing productivity in ensuring better working life. Not forgetting to balance the routines, job satisfaction needs also to be deliberated in any organization. In the current business scenario, the workforce in Malaysia has often been called to acquire core competencies and maintain their competitiveness in a liberalized and globalized market. Further, with the implementation of various policies pertinent to employment including the retirement age and minimum wages, the workplace is no more a pleasant place. Workers need to be more innovative, creative and talented to sustain employment. For such reasons, this paper attempts to examine the relationship between organizational support and job satisfaction in the insurance industry. The results showed that satisfaction with the job (M = 3.68); successful people, directed or influenced by its own commitment to achieve organizational goals (M = 3.55); know and understand the policies and processes to do their job better (M = 3.54). This result is important in that it clearly shows that the relationship between job satisfaction and organizational support are intertwined and closely related to organization performance. This paper proposed a practical model that helps management or decision-makers to highlight the most influential factors that influence the quality of employees’ working life in their organizations.   Keywords: Job satisfaction, quality of working life, insurance industry.

Employee performance is a measure of the quality of human resources in a company, because employee performance is one important factor for the achievement of a company's goals. Employee performance can be influenced by several factors, such as training, work environment and organizational citizenship behavior (OCB). The purpose of this research is to determine the influence of training and work environment to employee’s performance with Organizational Citizenship Behavior (OCB) as the intervening. This research was conducted at the Semarang City Education Department by taking a sample of 115 respondents registered as active officials of the Semarang City Education Department. Data collection method is done through a questionnaire. Data analysis uses path analysis. The results of the study concluded that there is an influence of training and work environment on OCB, the influence of OCB on employee performance and OCB is able to mediate the relationship between training and work environment on employee performance.

Recently, a lot of high-rise apartments are being built around large cities in the world. The high-rise apartments are a valuable living space for residents and are located in the center of the city, providing a distinctive and advanced residents' convenience while maintaining a high price of real estate along with the landmark role. In this background this study examined the relationship between the evaluation of the quality of management services perceived by residents and the satisfaction and recommendation intention of tenants living in high-rise apartments in China. This study empirically examines the relationship between the quality of management services (environmental quality, process quality, result quality), satisfaction and recommendation intention of tenants living in ‘high-rise apartments’ in large cities in China. The results showed that the quality of management services of high-rise apartments had a significant effect on residential satisfaction and recommended intention. In addition, among the quality of management service affecting residential satisfaction and recommendation intention, the relationship was the highest in the order of process quality (β=.363, t=5.362), result quality (β=.306, t=5.610), and environmental quality (β=.200, t=3.319). Therefore, in order to enhance the satisfaction of the residents of high-rise apartments and to induce positive attitudes and follow-up actions, it is necessary to pay attention to the needs of the residents and deal with them promptly and kindly, rather than the physical environmental quality of the high-rise apartments and the quality improvement efforts shown in the research results.
