Girls’ magazines play an important role in female adolescents’ identity and their constructions of femininity. Despite breast development being common to all female adolescents, and breasts being a key signifier of femininity, the representation of breasts in girls’ magazines has not been investigated. A Foucauldian discourse analysis was conducted to understand the ways in which breasts are represented in two popular girls’ magazines ( Teen Vogue and Seventeen). Articles in Seventeen promoted a contradictory and potentially confusing postfeminist discourse, supporting calls for Body Positivity, whilst at the same time framing breasts as problematic and encouraging girls to aspire to an ideal breast. The reader was positioned as a consumer with the purchase and wearing of bras offered as a neoliberal solution to these problems. In contrast, Teen Vogue articles conveyed a feminist informed Body Positivity discourse. Readers were positioned as active feminist advocates, incited to adopt radical, collective, political responses in order to challenge the potentially damaging messages surrounding breast ideals and sexualisation. We argue that consistent feminist messages are needed across and within media to support teenage girls in negotiating their bodies and identities.

This study refers to getting to know the conditions in which the girls experience the social-educational measure of incarceration in order to expose the oppressions suffered by them, in the context of an institution as Fundação CASA (Adolescent Social-Educational Attendance Center), depicting how they inhabit CASA Chiquinha Gonzaga as to identify the resistance tactics of the female adolescents who are deprived of freedom. The insertion as a professional constituted as a research field where observations were made from the time spent together added to interviews with two teenage girls who have already finished the detention measure. The research draws its inspiration from the participatory action research methodology and also from the feminist methodology and sets off from theoretical frameworks such as critical criminology, the intersectionality of black feminism and affectivity as source of knowledge. The resistance tactics were debated through the axes of musicalities, materialities and affections around.

AbstractMacro and micro nutrient deficiency in female adolescents causes the body to be thin and weight (BB) to drop dramatically impact on nutritional status becomes abnormal. One risk factor is an unbalanced diet. The nutritional status of adolescent girls can be seen from the results of the examination of Body Mass Index (BMI / U) by age. The importance of this nutritional status check is carried out considering that adolescent girls are one of the most potential human resources to assist development in a country because adolescents are the next generation and determiners of the future of this nation, in addition, adolescent girls are prospective mothers who will give birth to children of high quality to use for the development of a nation if it consumes food based on balanced nutrition. The  examination of abnormal nutritional status of 68 teenage girls (39.3%) can trigger educational institutions in collaboration with health institutions and parents to immediately conduct nutritional interventions in the form of nutritional education, or cooking demonstrations of balanced nutrition requirements for teenagers and parents as a program to tackle problems of abnormal nutritional status and the risk of anemia for adolescent girls, so that nutritional problems in adolescents can be quickly resolved.

Abstract The purpose of this study was to examine the effect of father-daughter attachment towards adolescent depressive symptoms in Bandung. The sampling technique in this study was purposive sampling with a questionnaire data collection method. The instruments used in this study were the Inventory of Parent And Peer Attachment (IPPA) and Beck Depression Inventory (BDI). The sample in this study were 64 teenage girls in Bandung aged 15-24 years who have experienced three symptoms of depression for at least 2 weeks. The simple linear regression test results show that the higher the father attachment, the lower the depressive symptoms of female adolescents in Bandung. However, the magnitude of this influence is only 13.9%. For future researchers who are interested in investigating further about this variable, it is suggested to include control variables that can contribute to depressive symptoms, such as self-esteem, self-concept, self-efficacy, attributional style, and social support.

Background:Dissatisfaction with body weight and the use of unhealthy weight reduction practices have been reported among adolescents. Objective:The aim of the present study was to examine the severity of dieting and its association with obesity, body satisfaction and psychological problems in female adolescents.Subjects:A representative sample of 800 girls aged 14-19 years were approached during the period October to December 2004 and 566 girls gave consent and participated in the study, thus giving a response rate of 70.8%.Methods:Self-reports were obtained from 566 teenage girls using the Adolescent Dieting Scale (ADS) and the Self-Reporting Questionnaire (SRQ-20) for psychopathology. Results:The prevalence of overweight and obesity for female adolescents were 13.4% vs 1.8%;-; 39.9% were intermediate dieters, and 8.3% were extreme dieters. Dieting was not associated with age but was significantly associated with body mass index (BMI) (p=0.045). Extreme dieting was strongly associated with peer perception of respondent's figure (p< 0.001) and self perception of figure (p=0.016). Additionally, in adult Qatari population overweight and obesity for males were (34.4% vs 34.6%) and for females were (33.0% vs 45.3%). This is significantly higher than adolescent girls. (p< 0.01). The SRQ score was significantly highest in the extreme dieters group (p=0.005). The extreme dieters get most of their education (or information?) about dieting from school(14.0%) and TV(43.6%).Conclusion:The present study revealed strong evidence for the association between frequent dieting and overweight, body image dissatisfaction and psychological problems among adolescent females.

Abstract This study aims to identify strategic responses in the official statements issued by the group of political agents mentioned on "Fachin's List". These statements in response to corruption accusations comprise a mediatized corpus of secondary data that was investigated using interpretive discourse analysis. This study uses an institutionalist approach to the political context considering the complexity and plurality of the institutional sphere, in which each voter is an interlocutor of political discourse. This study also included analyses on how the discursive constructions are formed using intertextual, rhetorical, ambiguous and semantic elements. The results outline five distinct strategies in the official notes, which apply both to individuals as well as organizations: (a) attack by expressing consternation; (b) empathy for supporting anti-corruption actions; (c) manipulation by projecting a political ethos ; (d) manipulation by revoking legitimacy; and (e) an adaptive posture in raising ambiguity – contributing to reflection and assessment of reactive behaviors of individuals and organizations in situations of crisis, scandals, guiltiness and corruption.

Abstract The convincing argument that Brette makes for the neural coding metaphor as imposing one view of brain behavior can be further explained through discourse analysis. Instead of a unified view, we argue, the coding metaphor's plasticity, versatility, and robustness throughout time explain its success and conventionalization to the point that its rhetoric became overlooked.

The purpose of this study was to investigate the personality characteristics in adolescents with SLE. The research design is a case-control study by means of the Rorschach Method and the Wechsler Intelligence Scale. Study group: 30 female adolescents with lupus, 12–17 years of age. The SLE Disease Activity Index was administered during the period of psychological evaluation. Control group: 32 nonpatient adolescents were matched for age, sex, and socioeconomic level. In the Wechsler Intelligence Scale the mean IQ of the experimental group was significantly lower than that of the control group (77 and 98, respectively, p < .001). In the Rorschach, the lupus patients showed greater difficulty in interpersonal interactions, although they displayed the resources to process affect and to cope with stressful situations. A positive moderate correlation (p = .069) between the activity index of the disease and the affect constriction proportion of the Rorschach was observed: the higher the SLEDAI score, the lower the capacity to process affect. There is a negative correlation between the activity index of the disease and the IQ (p = .001): with a higher activity index of the disease, less intellectual resources are available.
