Background: The mortality and recurrence of patients with cancer is of high prevalence. SET-binding factor 2 (SBF2) antisense RNA1 (lncRNA-SBF2-AS1) is a promising long non-coding RNA. There is increasing evidence that SBF2-AS1 is abnormally expressed in various tumors and is associated with cancer prognosis. However, the identification of the effect of lncRNA SBF2-AS1 in tumors remains necessary. Materials and Methods: Up to November 2, 2020, electronic databases, including PubMed, Cochrane Library, EMBASE, Medline, and Web of Science, were searched. The results were evaluated by pooled odds ratios (ORs) and hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results: A total of 11 literatures on cancer patients were included for the present meta-analysis. The combined results revealed that high expression of SBF2-AS1 was significantly associated with unfavorable overall survival (OS) (HR = 1.48, 95% CI: 1.34-1.62, P < 0.00001) in a variety of cancers. In additional, the increase in SBF2-AS1 expression was also correlated with tumor size ((larger vs. smaller) OR = 2.34, 95% CI: 1.47-3.70, P = 0.0003), advanced TNM stage ((III/IV vs. I/II) OR = 2.78, 95% CI: 1.75-4.41, P < 0.0001), lymph node metastasis ((Positive vs. Negative) OR = 3.06, 95% CI: 1.93-4.86, P < 0.00001), and histological grade ((poorly vs. well/moderately) OR = 2.58, 95% CI: 1.47-4.52, P = 0.001) in patients with cancer. Furthermore, The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) dataset valuated that SBF2-AS1 was upregulated in a variety of tumors, and predicted the worse prognosis. Conclusions: Our results of this meta-analysis demonstrate that high SBF2-AS1 expression may become a potential target for predicting the prognosis of human cancers.

Antibiotics (ABs) are common medications used for treating infections. In cancer patients treated with immune checkpoint inhibitors (ICIs), concomitant exposure to ABs may impair the efficacy of ICIs and lead to a poorer outcome compared to AB non-users. We report here the results of a meta-analysis evaluating the effects of ABs on the outcome of patients with solid tumours treated with ICIs. PubMed, the Cochrane Library and Embase were searched from inception until September 2019 for observational or prospective studies reporting the prognoses of adult patients with cancer treated with ICIs and with or without ABs. Overall survival (OS) was the primary endpoint, and progression-free survival (PFS) was the secondary endpoint. The effect size was reported as hazard ratios (HRs) with a 95% confidence interval (CI) and an HR > 1 associated with a worse outcome in ABs users compared to AB non-users. Fifteen publications were retrieved for a total of 2363 patients. In the main analysis (n = 15 studies reporting data), OS was reduced in patients exposed to ABs before or during treatment with ICIs (HR = 2.07, 95%CI 1.51–2.84; p < 0.01). Similarly, PFS was inferior in AB users in n = 13 studies with data available (HR = 1.53, 95%CI 1.22–1.93; p < 0.01). In cancer patients treated with ICIs, AB use significantly reduced OS and PFS. Short duration/course of ABs may be considered in clinical situations in which they are strictly needed.

Abstract Background Several studies assessed the relationship between FTX expression level and clinicopathological features and survival outcomes in patients with cancer, but these results were conflicting. This meta-analysis aimed to synthesize existing data to clarify the association of FTX with prognosis of cancers. Methods Electronic databases of PubMed, Embase, Cochrane library, Web of Science, Chinese CNKI, and the Chinese WanFang databases were used to search for relevant studies. Role of FTX in cancers was evaluated by pooled odds ratios (ORs) and hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). Results In total, 11 studies compromising 1210 participants including colorectal cancer (CRC), hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), gastric cancer (GC), renal cell carcinoma (RCC), osteosarcoma (OSC), and glioma, were enrolled in this analysis. The meta-analysis showed that high FTX expression was associated with lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis, tumor size and TNM/clinical stage. More importantly, the pooled results from survival analysis revealed that there was a significant correlation between high FTX expression and a shorter OS in patients with HCC, CRC, GC, OSC, and glioma, and that FTX overexpression could be an independent predictive marker for shorter OS in patients with CRC, HCC, OSC, and glioma. Conclusions FTX may be a potential oncogene, and high FTX expression be associated with a poor prognosis in patients with CRC, HCC, OSC, and glioma.

Long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) have been confirmed to play a crucial role in human disease, especially in tumor development and progression. Small nucleolar RNA host gene (SNHG3), a newly identified lncRNA, has been found dysregulated in various cancers. Nevertheless, the results remain controversial. Thus, we aim to analyze the comprehensive data to elaborate the association between SNHG3 expression and clinical outcomes in multiple cancers. We searched PubMed, Web of Science, Cochrane Library, Embase, and MEDLINE database to identify eligible articles. STATA software was applied to calculate the hazard ratio (HR) and odds ratio (OR) with 95% confidence interval (95% CI) for survival outcomes and clinical parameters, respectively. Besides, the data from The Cancer Genome Atlas (TCGA) dataset was extracted to verify the results in our meta-analysis. There were thirteen studies totaling 919 cancer patients involved in this meta-analysis. The results demonstrated that high SNHG3 expression was significantly associated with poor overall survival (OS) (HR=2.53, 95% CI: 1.94-3.31) in cancers, disease-free survival (DFS) (HR=3.89, 95% CI: 1.34-11.3), and recurrence-free survival (RFS) (HR=2.42, 95% CI: 1.14-5.15) in hepatocellular carcinoma. Analysis stratified by analysis method, sample size, follow-up time, and cancer type further verified the prognostic value of SNHG3. Additionally, patients with high SNHG3 expression tended to have more advanced clinical stage, higher histological grade, earlier distant metastasis, and earlier lymph node metastasis. Excavation of TCGA dataset valuated that SNHG3 was upregulated in various cancers and predicted worse OS and DFS. Overexpressed SNHG3 was strongly associated with poor survival and clinical outcomes in human cancers and therefore can serve as a promising biomarker for predicting patients’ prognosis.

Abstract Backgroud: To elucidate the relationship between the expression level of HOXA-AS2 and it’s prognostic value of cancer by meta-analysis. Methods: Databases of PubMed, Cochrane Library, Embase, Web of Science, Google Scholar, CNKI and some others were searched systematically. Comprehensively screen according to the inclusion criteria and the exclusion criteria was conducted. The connection between HOXA-AS2 and the prognosis characteristics of patients with various types of cancer was screened by combining odds ratio (OR), Hazard ratios (HR) and 95% confidence interval (CI) for the studies collected in this meta-analysis. In addition, we further analyzed the expression of the gene and its potential clinical value in Gene Expression Profiling Interactive Analysis (GEPIA) and the lnCAR database. Results: A total of 12 studies consisting 796 patients were included in this research. Compared low HOXA-AS2 expression group, patients with high HOXA-AS2 expression were more likely to get poor overall survival (OS). Moreover, high HOXA-AS2 expression demonstrates advanced TNM stage, earlier lymph node metastasis, distant metastasis and bigger tumor size. But there was no correlation or the correlation was not statistically significant between the expression and the age, sex or the pathological differentiation. In addition, data from the GEPIA and LnCAR databases revealed that increasing HOXA-AS2 expression means bad prognosis in most of cancers. Conclusions: High HOXA-AS2 expression shows worse cancer prognosis in cancer patients, and HOXA-AS2 may be acted as therapeutic target and promising prognostic marker.

This meta-analysis synthesized existing data to clarify the association between FTX with cancer prognosis.Methods: PubMed, Embase, Cochrane library, Web of Science, Chinese CNKI, and the Chinese WanFang databases were used to search for relevant studies. Role of FTX in cancers was evaluated by pooled odds ratios (ORs) and hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs).Results: Eleven studies comprising 1,210 participants including colorectal cancer (CRC), hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC), gastric cancer (GC), renal cell carcinoma (RCC), osteosarcoma (OSC), and glioma were enrolled in this analysis. The meta-analysis showed that high FTX expression was significantly associated with several clinicopathological characteristics, including lymph node metastasis in patients with CRC, GC, HCC, and RCC, distant metastasis in patients with CRC, GC, HCC, and OSC, larger tumor size in patients with CRC, GC, HCC, RCC, and OSC, and subsequently TNM/clinical stage in patients with CRC, GC, HCC, OSC, and glioma. The pooled results from the survival analysis revealed a significant correlation between high FTX expression and shorter OS in patients with HCC, CRC, GC, OSC, and glioma. Further, FTX overexpression could be an independent predictive marker for shorter OS in patients with CRC, HCC, OSC, and glioma. Conclusions: FTX may be a potential oncogene, with high FTX expression being associated with a poorer prognosis in patients with CRC, HCC, OSC, and glioma

Increasing studies are indicating that long non-coding RNA (lncRNA) X-inactive specific transcript (XIST) is associated with the prognosis of cancer patients. However, the results have been disputed. Therefore, we aimed to further explore the prognostic value and clinical significance of XIST in various types of cancers. Then, we focussed our research on the comparison of the predictive value of XIST between digestive system tumors and non-digestive system tumors. We performed a systematic search by looking up PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, Web of Science, and Medline (up to 3 January 2018). Fifteen studies which matched our inclusion criteria with a total of 920 patients for overall survival and 867 patients for clinicopathological characteristics were included in this meta-analysis. Pooled hazard ratios (HR) and odds ratios (ORs) with their corresponding 95% confidence intervals (95% CIs) were calculated to summarize the effects. Our results suggested that high expression levels of XIST were associated with unfavorable overall survival in cancer patients (pooled HR = 1.81, 95% CI: 1.45–2.26). Additionally, we found that XIST was more valuable in digestive system tumors (pooled HR = 2.24, 95% CI: 1.73–2.92) than in non-digestive system tumors (pooled HR = 1.22, 95% CI: 0.60–2.45). Furthermore, elevated expression levels of XIST were connected with distant metastasis and tumor stage. XIST was correlated with poor prognosis, which suggested that XIST might serve as a novel predictive biomarker for cancer patients, especially for patients of digestive system tumors.

Abstract Background MicroRNA-140 (miR-140) is one of the most widely investigated miRNAs in cell carcinogenesis and cancer development. Despite present proposals of employing miR-140 as a candidate biomarker for cancer prognosis, its effectiveness in predicting patient survival and clinicopathological outcome is still under debate. Methods A systematic search for English literature using online databases was performed with pre-established criteria. Odds ratios (ORs) or hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs) were collected to delineate the correlation between miR-140 levels and cancer patient prognosis. Results For this meta-analysis, we selected 12 papers for analysis, involving 1386 participants. Based on our analysis, high levels of miR-140 were strongly correlated with enhanced patient overall survival (OS) (HR = 0.728, 95% CI = 0.601-0.882, P = 0.001). In addition, we also observed that elevated miR-140 levels significantly led to better OS in patients with cancers in different parts of the body like digestive system (HR = 0.675, 95% CI = 0.538-0.848, P = 0.001), digestive tract (HR = 0.709, 95% CI = 0.565-0.889, P = 0.003), and head and neck (HR = 0.603, 95% CI = 0.456-0.797, P < 0.001). Additionally, we verified that the low miR-140 levels was related to advanced TNM stage (OR = 0.420, 95% CI = 0.299-0.590, P < 0.001), worse histologic grade (OR = 0.410, 95% CI = 0.261-0.643, P < 0.001), and positive lymph node metastasis status (OR = 0.341, 95% CI = 0.144-0.807, P = 0.014). Conclusions Taken together, our results suggest that elevated miR-140 levels can be employed as a favorable biomarker for cancer patient prognosis. This information can greatly benefit in the formation of an individualized therapeutic plan for the treatment of cancer patients.

The fibroblast growth factor-4 receptor (FGFR4) is a member of receptor tyrosine kinase. The FGFR4 Gly388Arg polymorphism in the transmembrane domain of the receptor has been shown to increase genetic susceptibility to cancers. However, its prognostic impact in cancer patients still remains controversial. Herein, we performed this meta-analysis to evaluate the clinicopathological and prognostic impacts of the FGFR4 Gly388Arg polymorphism in patients with cancer. We carried out a computerized extensive search using PubMed, Medline, and Ovid Medline databases up to July 2021. From 44 studies, 11,574 patients were included in the current meta-analysis. Regardless of the genetic models, there was no significant correlation of the FGFR4 Gly388Arg polymorphism with disease stage 3/4. In the homozygous model (Arg/Arg vs. Gly/Gly), the Arg/Arg genotype tended to show higher rate of lymph node metastasis compared with the Gly/Gly genotype (odds ratio = 1.21, 95% confidence interval (CI): 0.99-1.49, p = 0.06). Compared to patients with the Arg/Gly or Arg/Arg genotype, those with the Gly/Gly genotype had significantly better overall survival (hazard ratios (HR) = 1.19, 95% CI: 1.05-1.35, p = 0.006) and disease-free survival (HR = 1.25, 95% CI: 1.03-1.53, p = 0.02). In conclusion, this meta-analysis showed that the FGFR4 Gly388Arg polymorphism was significantly associated with worse prognosis in cancer patients. Our results suggest that this polymorphism may be a valuable genetic marker to identify patients at higher risk of recurrence or mortality.

Abstract Background It is well known that liposome-based delivery of cytotoxic chemotherapeutics has been proposed as a putative strategy to enhance drug tolerability and efficacy compared to the conventional chemotherapy. However, its potential effects on improving cancer patients prognosis remain largely unknown. The current meta-analysis is to explore the prognosis of cancer patients undergoing liposomal doxorubicin-based chemotherapy. Methods A detailed review of English and Chinese literature was conducted from PubMed, Embase, Cochrane Library, China Biology Medicine disc (CBM), China National Knowledge Infrastructure (CNKI) up to March 21st, 2019. We evaluate its possible correlations using hazard ratios (HRs) with 95% confidence intervals (CIs). The pooled data were calculated by STATA software and Review Manager 5.3 software. Results Consequently, 26 studies including 7943 patients were satisfied in current analysis. We found that there were no significant differences between liposomal and conventional chemotherapy in OS (HR=0.98, 95%CI: 0.93-1.04, P=0.544) and PFS (HR=1.00, 95%CI: 0.92-1.10, P=0.945). Likewise, subgroup-analysis regarding country, cancer type and sample sizes also showed the similar results of the two paired groups. Conclusion Taken together, our findings have demonstrated that there was no association of undergoing liposomal doxorubicin-based chemotherapy with cancer prognosis. However, detailed and further studies are needed to confirm these conclusions.
