On March 11, 2020, the National Basketball Association suspended its season after a player tested positive for COVID-19. Within days, the rest of the sports world similarly suspended play in the wake of the pandemic. This study focuses on sports media storytelling when covering athletic competition was no longer an option. Utilizing four distinct time periods and framing theory as the foundation of our theoretical framework, the content analysis examined shifts from the normal reporting routine and how those shifts morphed as pandemic information dictated. As the pandemic grew more widespread, health and safety became the predominant focus of national sports media. In spring 2020, sports news experienced a significant shift in coverage as economic and fairness frames were replaced with health, safety, and quality of life as the principal frames in the coded articles. By pinpointing the major differences in coverage across time, the study revealed that sports content and frames quickly shifted to reflect the perceived severity to the global health community, while the sources used in those articles stayed largely the same. The theoretical and applied implications of the study are discussed.

Since its 2016 launch, negative attitudes toward The Athletic, a network of hyperlocal subscription sports news sites, have resonated throughout the journalism community because of the new media startup’s nontraditional approach, one centered on hiring established journalists from the hometown newspaper. Therefore, to accurately paint a picture of The Athletic’s perceived impact on print journalism, 22 in-depth interviews were conducted with newspaper sports editors. This analysis reveals that most sports editors were generally accepting of The Athletic and viewed its presence as reinforcement that newspapers need to stick to daily coverage to stand out in the crowded sports media marketplace.

The fast transformation of the urban centers, pushed by the impacts of climatic changes and the dramatic events of the COVID-19 Pandemic, will profoundly influence our daily mobility. This resulted scenario is expected to favor adopting cleaner and flexible modal solutions centered on bicycles and scooters, especially as last-mile options. However, as the use of bicycles has rapidly increased, cyclists have been subject to adverse conditions that may affect their health and safety when cycling in urban areas. Therefore, whereas cities should implement mechanisms to monitor and evaluate adverse conditions in cycling paths, cyclists should have some effective mechanism to visualize the indirect quality of cycling paths, eventually supporting choosing more appropriate routes. Therefore, this article proposes a comprehensive multi-parameter system based on multiple independent subsystems, covering all phases of data collecting, formatting, transmission, and processing related to the monitoring, evaluating, and visualizing the quality of cycling paths in the perspective of adverse conditions that affect cyclist. The formal interactions of all modules are carefully described, as well as implementation and deployment details. Additionally, a case study is considered for a large city in Brazil, demonstrating how the proposed system can be adopted in a real scenario.

Evolving media landscapes toward increasingly diverse and competitive environments in both traditional and new media requires producers regularly examine the quality of their productions. One growing line of research identifies the increasing presence and significance of statistics in sports media programming. This experiment measures the effect of statistics on enjoyment and perceived credibility by sport consumers while considering level of fanship, media source, and variations in placement within Instagram posts. Results uncover evidence that validates previous observations about statistics in media while contradicting others. Specifically, findings reveal that statistics enhance enjoyment and improve perceived credibility. Observations were consistent across fanship level. However, additional findings also suggest media source and placement of statistics influences both enjoyment and credibility as well. For both dependent variables, statistics in both the Instagram caption and image yielded significantly greater enjoyment and credibility than some other conditions including posts without statistics at all. The impact of these and other findings on sports media industry and scholarship, along with limitations and directions for future research, are discussed.

In this paper we report findings from a study of what we are calling ‘sports media activism’ (or ‘SMA’). We were interested in how, why, and for what purposes a range of sport media activists are engaging with sport-related social issues through different media. This research contributes to a limited body of literature on sport-related activism, and especially to thinking about the role of media in sport-related activism. By ‘taking sport seriously’ in this paper, we consider what might be learned by focusing on the experiences of those creating and contributing to sport-related activism and alternative media. Also, by assessing a range of projects that we include under the sport media activism umbrella—each with their own goals and intentions for change—we think there is room to inform thinking about ‘alternative’ media more broadly.

The article deals with the issue of state regulation over the construction products industry. Analysis resulted in the identification of two main forms of regulation: tariff and non-tariff regulation. Global practices show the effectiveness of non-tariff regulation in the construction industry. Being a WTO member, Ukraine has to implement the legal framework of non-tariff regulation, in regards to those aspects contributing to compliance with the rating and standards of the European Union to ensure the quality of products. The main objective of non-tariff market regulation is to ensure the quality of finished products, environmental protection, health and safety of life. The national system of regulation, including technical rate-setting of the construction products manufacturing must comply with the international documents ratified by Ukraine. The article analyzes the domestic legal framework and proposes an algorithm for designing a national system of non-tariff regulation in accordance with international rules and standards.

Reforms in the field of employment law is done with the purpose to improve and enhance the quality of labor and personnel welfare. Reformation in the field of employment law begins with the issuance of Act No. 21 of 2000 concerning Trade Union / Labor United. Then followed with the release of Act No. 13 of 2003 on Manpower. Problems in this reasearch: (1) To identify and analyze the Implementation of the Employment Agreement in the Specific Time (PKWT) At the National Land Agency of Kendal. (2) To identify and analyze the forms of legal protection for workers at National Land Agency of Kendal with the Specific Time of Work Agreement (PKWT). The results of this study are: (1) Implementation of the Employment Agreement in the Specific Time (PKWT) at the Land Office of Kendal by implementing probation on each worker who recruits including contract workers. Which it is not supposed to apply probation at a certain time and labor agreements remain to be done if the employment agreement becomes null and void. (2) The legal protection of workers / laborers at Specific Time Work Agreement (PKWT) inemployeein practice has not run optimally, given the frequent violations, because of the vagueness of the rules on the implementation of the Employment Agreement for specific time periods, in providing protection against labor law for employees in the Land Office of Kendal.Keywords: Legal Protection; Labor Contract; the National Land Agency.

The historic preconditions of the lodging sites development are analyzed. The historic periods in the hotel sphere development are described. The main factors that lead to the formation and development of the hotel establishments are singled out. The development of services, quality of service, features of hotels architectural planning is characterized. The historic references on the first hotels in Lviv are submitted. The development of accommodation facilities in different time periods is traced. The influence of the historical background on the development of hotel infrastructure is analyzed. Industrial Revolution has a significant contribution to forming the global cities. Many developments happened dictated by Industrial needs simultaneously with increasing number of populations by urbanization. One part of development to support industrialization and urbanization is infrastructures. Infrastructures such as street for cars and train railway. The development of infrastructures is affecting health, social, economic, and environment of citizen. It is also responsible for the decline of quality of life in many global cities. As time goes by, another significant shift happens in many global cities. Infrastructure becomes outdated, industry leaves, the local economy deflates, residents flee and the community implodes. It leaves many derelict infrastructures, other facilities of industry, and diverse impacts. To tackle this situation, Urban Regeneration concept was introduced. Furthermore, landscape also can be used as a tool of urban regeneration concept that intended to improve quality of life in the cities. According to this situation, there are two projects that represent landscape project as urban regeneration. The first project is The Highline project in New York by James Corner Field Operations, Diller Scofidio + Renfro, and Piet Oudolf that revitalizing previous railway and Seoullo 7017 Skygarden in South Korea by MVRDV that revitalizing previous highway. The aim of this paper are to presents more insight and elaboration about how urban regeneration implemented in the cities from two landscape projects example and describe some critical review of both projects.

This paper presents a set of arguments claiming that construction of the quarry near Flamborough, Ontario proposed St. Mary’s Cement Inc. should not be permitted. First, the quarry would violate local citizens’ property rights, compromise community health and safety, and incur excessive economic costs. Precautionary measures are insufficient, such that the quarry is expected to irreparably damage drinking water and quality of life. Second, the area proposed for aggregate extraction is mostly undeveloped, containing unique, valuable natural features and ecological linkages. Despite regulation and monitoring according to the provincial Aggregate Resources Act, rehabilitation of the site after aggregate extraction would be inadequate in returning the land to its former condition. This will result in habitat fragmentation and loss of high quality farmland. Furthermore, the construction of the quarry is not permitted under current City of Hamilton zoning regulations; the City of Hamilton, along with the city’s Public Health Services, filed an official objection against construction. Finally, a GIS study has selected a more suitable alternative site for aggregate extraction near Carlisle, which meets the geographic, topographic, and mineral needs of St. Mary’s Cement Group without disturbing habitat or nearby communities.
