Abstract Background Outside-of-school-hours-care (OSHC) services are well positioned to influence the health behaviours of 489, 800 Australian children, and are an important setting for health promotion given the current rates of childhood overweight and obesity and associated health risks. OSHC Professionals are ideally placed to become positive influencers in this setting, although they may require training and support to confidently perform this role. This study piloted a multifaceted intervention strategy to increase OSHC Professional’s confidence and competencies, to support a health promoting OSHC environment with a nutrition and physical activity focus. Methods A mixed methods approach was used. Nineteen OSHC Professionals participated in the study, including a face-to-face workshop, supported by a closed Facebook group and website. Role adequacy (self-confidence) and legitimacy (professional responsibility) were measured pre and post workshop and evaluated using non-parametric statistics. Facebook interactions were monitored, and four participants undertook qualitative exit interviews to discuss their experiences with the intervention. Results Pre-workshop 68% of participants had not received any OSHC-specific health promotion training. Post-workshop significant improvements in confidence about menu planning, accessing nutrition information, activities and recipes was observed (P < 0.05 for all). A significant improvement was observed in role support and role related training (P < 0.05). A high level of support and interaction was observed between participants on Facebook and the website was reported a useful repository of information. Conclusions Health promotion training, combined with positive social connections, shared learning experiences, and a website improved OSHC Professionals confidence and capacity to provide a health promoting OSHC environment. Health promotion professional development for OSHC professionals should be mandated as a minimum requirement, and such learning opportunities should be scaffolded with support available through social media interactions and website access.

Abstract The aim was to, in an oral health promoting setting in low socioeconomic areas, implement a method aiming at improving quality of work by assessing both formative and summative results. The overall aim is to decrease health inequity. Methods Five teams of dental hygienists (n = 5) and dental nurses (n = 3), who operated in socioeconomic low-status areas, participated. The teams were performing health promoting activities on arenas as for example family-centrals. These teams were introduced on how to report health promoting activities according to the Health Equilibrium Methodology (HEM), which is based on Social Cognitive Theory. Following questions were put and answered in every report: Which health determinants were targeted? Did any person seem to perceive him-/herself excluded? Did anything unexpected happen? What to think about next time? Quantitative data were also documented: Almost six-hundred individuals were included in a total of 36 reports. Of these 50% were adults/parents and the rest children, most of them between 1-6 years old. The reports were written directly into a database after every activity and then processed by a facilitator and later discussed with the teams in workshops every third month. Results Analysis of the reports shows that the implementation of health promoting activities according to HEM included the following: -Identification of important health determinants. - Attention on how to get everyone involved and if anything unexpected happened. - Suggestions for change for the next time. Throughout the workshops the team-members exchanged experiences. Conclusions The HEM-method facilitates depicting and discussing the process of health promotion with focus on health equity. Thereby the method has a potential to support development of high-quality health-promoting activities in populations with low socioeconomic status. It may also lead to a better professional self-confidence.

The complex program of health promotion for university students with disorders of adaptation processes was developed. The program includes application of dynamic, isometric and breathing exercises at working table during micro-pauses for amelioration of cerebral blood circulation. Increasing of resistance of organism to shortage of oxygen and normalization of vegetative functions. The application of massage of biologically active points applied during scheduled breaks is addressed to optimizing functional conditions of students. The implementation of complex of common developing exercises, application of health promoting running and rainy shower in the end of training exercise is oriented on increasing physical readiness and stimulating students' own adaptive possibilities.The approbation of originally developed program demonstrated its good efficiency in adjustment of deadaptation disorders occurring in the process of education. The results of study demonstrated that in boys and girls after three-months health promoting training neuro-psychic tension decreased, resistance to stress impact increased and anxiety lessened. Simultaneously, increasing of number of students with high level of adaptation to actual social conditions was observed. The amelioration of vegetative resistance of organisms of students was noted. The testing of physical readiness demonstrated that in students, after correcting exercises, muscular strength of wrists increased, velocity force capacities and indices of force endurance in control exercise "jump-rope" ameliorated and suppleness and static resistance of organism. The application of proposed means of health promotion promoted mobilization of workability of nervous cells and nervous system that is substantiated by the results of tapping-test.The application of health promotion program resulted in increasing of academic progress in studies of boys and girls up to 0.4-0.7 points. The obtained data was used to recommend for implementing in educational institutions the developed program of health promoting student youth and minimizing deadaptation disorders occurring in student social environment.

Inactivity and an unhealthy diet amongst others have led to an increased prevalence of overweight and obesity even in young children. Since most health behaviours develop during childhood health promotion has to start early. The setting kindergarten has been shown as ideal for such interventions. “Join the Healthy Boat” is a kindergarten-based health promotion programme with a cluster-randomised study focussing on increased physical activity, reduced screen media use, and sugar-sweetened beverages, as well as a higher fruit and vegetable intake. Intervention and materials were developed using Bartholomew’s Intervention Mapping approach considering Bandura’s social-cognitive theory and Bronfenbrenner’s ecological framework for human development. The programme is distributed using a train-the-trainer approach and currently implemented in 618 kindergartens. The effectiveness of this one-year intervention with an intervention and a control group will be examined in 62 kindergartens using standardised protocols, materials, and tools for outcome and process evaluation. A sample of 1021 children and their parents provided consent and participated in the intervention. Results of this study are awaited to give a better understanding of health behaviours in early childhood and to identify strategies for effective health promotion. The current paper describes development and design of the intervention and its implementation and planned evaluation.Trial Registration. In late December, 2019, patients diagnosed with viral pneumonia due to an unidentified microbial agent were reported in Wuhan, China. A novel coronavirus was subsequently identified as the causative pathogen, provisionally named 2019 novel coronavirus (2019-nCoV). As at November 10, 2020, confirmed cases had reached an alarming 50,994,215 with a global death toll of 1,264,077    from 2019-nCoV infections, most of which involved people living in or visiting countries with high rate of prevalence and thus increasing the human-to-human transmission. A random sampling of 150 inmates in a Psychiatric clinic revealed that the advent of the COVID 19 pandemic in Nigeria left many youths stressed up, depressed, traumatized with excited state of anxiety leading to mental health challenges and some of which  resort to committing suicide.The post COVID 19 era plunged many youths into joblessness. Many youths who were into artisans and gainfully employed with private outfits and organizations such as private schools lost their jobs (20.67%) due to the COVID 19 disease outbreak which shut down schools, businesses and government. The state of joblessness of the youths in the current post COVID 19 era has further affected the mental health of some of the youths in Nigeria. Absence of government palliatives (4.00%), ASUU Strike (3.33%), High level of poverty, isolation, Sicknesses (13.33%), High level of Despondency, Loss of accommodation (16.67%), Inflation (increased prices of food and other items), Increased transportation cost, Persistent lockdown, Social unrest, High level of insecurity (17.33%), Security personnel brutality and Increase crime rates. The counselor’s intervention strategy should focus on helping the youths with poor mental health due to COVID 19 to regain self- confidence, regain self –esteem, seek medical attention for them, canvass for free medication for affected ones, create awareness on job opportunity for them, engage governments on behalf of the youths for employment opportunities as well as giving them palliatives, reopening of schools/universities and linking them to credit facilities, social safety nets and other available opportunities.

Project SoL is implemented over a period of four years with the aim to promote healthy eating and physical activity among children aged 3–8 years by targeting the families in a Danish municipality based on the multi-component, supersetting strategy. Interventions are implemented in childcare centres, schools and supermarkets in three local communities as well as in local mass media and social media during a 19 months period in the Municipality of Bornholm. The matching Municipality of Odsherred serves as a control site based on its similarity to Bornholm regarding several socio-demographic and health indicators. The present paper gives an account of the design used for the summative and formative evaluation based on a realistic evaluation and a mixed methods approach combining qualitative and quantitative methods. Summative studies are conducted on changes of health behaviours among the involved families and within the municipalities in general, changes in community awareness of the project, changes in purchase patterns, changes in overweight and obesity among the targeted children and changes in knowledge and preferences among children due to sensory education workshops. The formative research comprises studies on children’s perceptions of health, perceptions of staff at supermarkets and media professionals on their roles in supporting the health promotion agenda, and motivations and barriers of community stakeholders to engage in health promotion at community level. The paper discusses operational issues and lessons learnt related to studying complex community interventions, cross-disciplinarily, interfaces between practice and research and research capacity strengthening; and suggests areas for future research. The development and implementation of the intervention and its theoretical foundation is described in a separate paper.

SummaryThe paper presents the results of the trial implementation of staff health promotion in the Health Promoting Schools (HPS) programme in Poland. The design and key results of the summative evaluation of the 3-year project and activities of schools after completion of the project are described. Over 900 teachers and non-teaching employees from 21 schools participated in the project. Its purpose was to verify the schools’ ability to take action related to the promotion of staff health in the HPSs in Poland. The results of the summative evaluation of the project were considered positive and promising. The percentage of persons who declared that they take greater care of their health, and teachers who described their health as very good, increased. Most employees introduced beneficial changes in their health behaviours. In all schools, changes in working conditions and personnel relations were introduced. Eighty-two per cent of teachers and seventy-five per cent of other employees had a positive attitude to the project and ninety per cent declared that the activities ought to be continued. Nearly all the schools’ project leaders considered it a valuable initiative, had personal benefits and satisfaction from its implementation. After completing the project, 16/20 schools continued activities promoting the health of employees. Since the trial implementation of health promotion among school staff was considered a success, in 2016 some indicators relating to school staff health were included in the self-evaluation of HPS, and work began to prepare coordinators of regional and district HPS networks to work with the schools.

In the light of new information, environmental, educational and production conditions, the problem of creating a health-promoting environment in a technical university appears to be rather important and needs to be studied in detail. The research aims to develop, justify and experimentally verify pedagogical conditions for forming competency in health promotion in technical students using physical education. The experiment involved two groups of students (Years 1-4): 241 individuals in the experimental group (EG) and 237 individuals in the control group (CG). Research methods include pedagogical observations, surveys, tests, self-evaluation, expert evaluation of students? practical skills, analysis of personal valeological and sport diaries of students; modelling in the framework of ascertaining and formative stages of the experiment; quantitative analysis of empirical data and its quality presentation; statistical verification of the proposed pedagogical conditions and the research hypothesis, the use of relevant tests (the Ruffier-Dickson index, the Cooper test) and quantitative indicators (Student?s t-test) in order to obtain some objective data on the results from the implementation of the author?s model. At the end of the experiment, most respondents (80 %) in the EG have reached a high level of competency in health promotion using physical education. In the CG, the differences in levels have not shown any significant changes since only 32.5% of respondents have a high level. Therefore, the results of the pedagogical experiment show some positive dynamics and confirm the effectiveness of the designed model and technology for forming competency in health promotion in technical students using physical education, which has made it possible to create qualitatively new conditions of the educational process and enhance students? motivation towards developing and realizing values in this field.

Sustainable health behaviours and, specifically, eating a sustainable diet and engaging in regular physical activity are health-promoting behaviours that can simultaneously contribute to reduction of greenhouse gases which are known to contribute to climate change. Good health usually facilitates societal development, and development often promotes improved health. However, while good health may be a prerequisite for societal development, some behavioural determinants of health, such as attitudes towards the environment, and people’s lifestyles and consumption patterns, can impede the sustainability of the development process in the longer term. This perspective paper argues that there is a need to rethink 21st century health promotion practices by pairing sustainability literacy with health promotion for changing dietary and physical activity behaviour patterns to improve population health and contribute to the achievement of Sustainable Development Goal 3 (to ensure healthy lives and promote wellbeing for all at all ages).

<b>Introduction:</b> The period of puberty is especially important in the shaping of behaviours with respect to adequate diet and physical activity. Habits established during this period are repeated later in life. <br/><b>Aim of the study:</b> The purpose of the thesis was to determine the extent of influence of parents’ health behaviour on the physical activity of children with an excess body mass problem. <br/><b>Material and methods:</b> The research was conducted in the period from November 2015 to March 2016 at the University Children’s Hospital of Cracow among 88 parents whose children suffer from overweight and obesity. For this purpose, the research used the diagnostic survey method and the measurement method (body mass and height). The research tools included the Health Behaviour Inventory (HBI) by Juczyński, an authorial survey questionnaire, an anthropometer and the Tanita BF350 scales. Basic descriptive statistics were used to describe the results, the differences between variables were verified using the χ2 test of independence. The materiality level was assumed to be p<0.05. <br/><b>Results:</b> As many as 32 parents of children with excess body mass (36.36%) were overweight as well, while 28 (31.82%) kept their body mass within the norm. A large proportion of the respondents, 33 parents (37.50%), stated that it was not customary to do sports in their family, and less then a half of the children (n=36; 40.91%) regularly participated in physical education classes. Children of the parents whose BMI was normal participated in physical education classes significantly more often than children of the other parents (p<0.001). The average number of points obtained by the respondents in the HBI questionnaire equals 70.81 (SD=22.41 pp). Parents rated their health behaviour the highest on the “positive psychical attitude” subscale (avg. 18.01; SD=5.77 pp), and the lowest on the “health practices” subscale, which includes e.g. physical activity (avg. 17.24; SD=6.21 pp). <br/><b>Conclusions:</b> Health promoting activities shaping health behaviours should be performed by schools, with an active participation of parents. It is necessary to carry out educational programmes in the area of adequate nutrition and physical activity, which would expand knowledge of the problem.
