Since the definition of subnormality in the Mental Health Act (1959) specifically adds to its other descriptive statements, “… including subnormality of intelligence,” as part of the criteria for delineating this type of patient, it is clearly of great importance to come to some decision about the exact meaning of this phrase. One can either insist on a purely intellectual interpretation where the major emphasis is placed on the individual's estimated problem-solving ability relative to the community at large (Castell and Mittler, 1965); or one can broaden the concept to include much more than sheer intellectual ability (Shapiro, 1965) and argue that it also involves a person's social behaviour and his empirically demonstrated failure to adapt to the social and economic environment. If the purely psychometric view is taken, then reliance is placed wholly upon the use of standardized tests which are capable of arranging the population in order of intelligence, and which supply statistically defined cut-off points, according to the percentage of the whole population likely to fall beneath such limits. Conversely, if the clinical viewpoint is adopted, then intelligence levels assume a relatively minor role, and more emphasis is placed on social maturity, and behavioural control. In the absence of properly standardized, and widely accepted maturity scales, the clinical diagnosis is based mainly on subjective impression, supported by case history factors, and the knowledgeable experience of the examining medical expert.

A definition of the social-psychological maturity of the person is proposed in the article. The definition was specified by means of collating with other concepts, comprising an attribution of “maturity”: psychological maturity, person's maturity and social maturity. Accordingly, the phenomena corresponded to each of the 4 types of maturity were outlined. The processes through which the social-psychological maturity is came into being and grow up were described. It was principally shown how the personality questionnaire can be used to measure the social-psychological maturity, basing on genetic relation between person's maturity and social-psychological maturity.

Nowadays, the study of infantility is becoming more urgent, and the  phenomenon of social infantilism itself is a problem of our time,  since more and more representatives of the younger generation do  not aspire to take responsibility for solving questions concerning their life path. As a result, the level of social immaturity  is growing. The aim of the article is to cover interdisciplinary studies  of social infantility and social maturity. The urgency of the work is  determined by the insufficient knowledge of infantility in sociological  knowledge, as well as the lack of clear methods of preventing the  infantilism of Russian youth. This article examines different  approaches to the definition of social infantility in Russia and abroad. The signs of this phenomenon are described. The meaning of the  concept of social maturity is revealed, its criteria are given, which  are necessary for revealing the signs of social infantility. The paper  describes a number of directions in the study of the social infantility  of the youth of Russia at the present stage. Thus, on the basis of a  brief analysis of articles touching on the issues of social infantility  and social maturity, it can be concluded that there is no single definition of these concepts. It can also be said that in the  world practice the study of infantility and maturity receives not only  a theoretical foundation, but also a broad orientation to practice.

This research paper defines the scope for a research agenda for competitiveintelligence (CI), market intelligence (MI) and more generally for intelligence studies inbusiness. Respondents in the survey defined the scope to include analysis, traditionalphenomena or problems, new phenomena, trans- or cross disciplinary studies, methodologicalissue and industry specific studies. Respondents were also asked to come up with terms for agood definition of the study. We found that existing definitions of CI in use are overlapping withdefinitions of other more established fields of study, like decision sciences and marketingintelligence. Respondents agreed that it’s practical to define the study in terms of understandingthe external environment. In the discussion a parallel is made to the notion of surroundingworld analysis and Stevan Dedijer’s ideas about social intelligence. A broad discussion leads toa renewed interest for disciplines studied by the humanities as we show what has been lost inthe development of the social sciences. Implications are shown and future studies suggested.

Three personal reflections provided by doctoral students of the Michigan School of Professional Psychology (Farmington Hills, Michigan) address identification of individual perspectives on the tragic events surrounding Trayvon Martin’s death. The historical ramifications of a culture-in-context and the way civil rights, racism, and community traumatization play a role in the social construction of criminals are explored. A justice orientation is applied to both the community and the individual via internal reflection about the unique individual and collective roles social justice plays in the outcome of these events. Finally, the personal and professional responses of a practitioner who is also a mother of minority young men brings to light the need to educate against stereotypes, assist a community to heal, and simultaneously manage the direct effects of such events on youth in society. In all three essays, common themes of community and growth are addressed from varying viewpoints. As worlds collided, a historical division has given rise to a present unity geared toward breaking the cycle of violence and trauma. The authors plead that if there is no other service in the name of this tragedy, let it at least contribute to the actualization of a society toward growth and healing.

When the Turkish army seized power on May 27th, 1960, a new democratic constitution was carried into effect. The positive atmosphere created by the 1961 constitution quickly showed its effects on political balances in the parliament and it became difficult for one single party to come into power, which strengthened the multi-party-system. The freedom initiative created by 1961’s constitution had a direct effect on the rise of public opposition. Filmmakers, who generally steered clear from the discussion of social problems and conflicts until 1960, started to produce movies questioning conflicts in political, social and cultural life for the first time and discussions about the “Social Realism” movement in the ensuing films arose in cinematic circles in Turkey. At the same time, the “regional managers” emerged, and movies in line with demands of this system started to be produced. The Hope (Umut), produced by Yılmaz Güney in 1970, rang in a new era in Turkish cinema, because it differed from other movies previously made in its cinematic language, expression, and use of actors and settings. The aim of this study is to mention the reality discussions in Turkish cinema and outline the political facts which initiated this expression leading up to the film Umut (The Hope, directed by Yılmaz Güney), which has been accepted as the most distinctive social realist movie in Turkey.

This article covers several stages of the work of Pichon-Rivière. In the 1950s he introduced the hypothesis of "the link as a four way relationship" (of reciprocal love and hate) between the baby and the mother. Clinical work with psychosis and psychosomatic disorders prompted him to examine how mental illness arises; its areas of expression, the degree of symbolisation, and the different fields of clinical observation. From the 1960s onwards, his experience with groups and families led him to explore a second path leading to "the voices of the link"—the voice of the internal family sub-group, and the place of the social and cultural voice where the link develops. This brought him to the definition of the link as a "bi-corporal and tri-personal structure". The author brings together the different levels of the analysis of the link, using as a clinical example the process of a psychoanalytic couple therapy with second generation descendants of a genocide within the limits of the transferential and countertransferential field. Body language (the core of the transgenerational link) and the couple's absences and presence during sessions create a rhythm that gives rise to an illusion, ultimately transforming the intersubjective link between the partners in the couple and with the analyst.

Ladeedah is an audio novella that takes place in a Black utopic space after “the improvised revolution.” Ladeedah is a tone-deaf, rhythm-lacking Black girl in a world where everyone dances and sings at all times. What is Ladeedah's destiny as a quiet, clumsy genius in a society where movement and sound are the basis of the social structure and the definition of freedom? This excerpt from Ladeedah focuses on Ladeedah's attempts to understand the meaning of revolution from her own perspectives—at home, at school, and in her own mind and body.
