<p><strong>Purpose:</strong> To clarify the different types of data likely to occur in any service or industrial process, the main applicable statistics for each type of data and the Six Sigma metrics that allow characterising and benchmarking organisational processes.</p><p><strong>Methodology/Approach:</strong> A short reference to the statistical process control is carried out, from Shewhart’s works to Motorola’s achievements, followed by a short discussion of the use of Six Sigma tools as a part of today’s total quality approaches, and by a discussion of the continuous, attribute and counting data worlds and their main applications in process analysis. Because many quality professionals may have difficulties dealing with engineering perspectives, a review of main classic and Six Sigma process metrics is done with examples. Complementing discussions, four functions written in the R language are presented, which can deal with real organisational data, or can be used for training purposes.</p><p><strong>Findings:</strong> The functions developed provide useful graphical displays and calculate all necessary metrics, having the ability to let the user provide theoretical values for training activities. Real and simulated case studies help understanding data worlds and respective Six Sigma metrics.</p><p><strong>Research Limitation/implication:</strong> This paper reports an intentionally simple theoretical perspective of Six Sigma metrics and friendly software which is available to all interested professionals on request to the authors.</p><strong>Originality/Value of paper:</strong> The paper presents clear definitions of main data types and metrics and is supported by a set of four new functions that can be used by any researcher with a minimum knowledge of the R software.

A simplified process monitoring system is implemented for process performance analysis. The concept of system is designed to deal with the reuse information from conventional measurement inspection of electronic piece parts. The analytical process depicts the principle of Statistical Process Control (SPC) to manipulate the preliminary data in the database from measurement machines in a real-time manner. The system will firstly generate a comparison graphical data from a particular process which then produces an identical product from the multiple machines. Finally, the system can distribute a variety of reports desired as described in the index of data storage as part of the measurement matrix. The report aims to guide the process improvement as well as the Measurement System Analysis for total quality control.

Statistical monitoring tools are well established in the literature, creating organizational cultures such as Six Sigma or Total Quality Management. Nevertheless, most of this literature is based on the normality assumption, e.g., based on the law of large numbers, and brings limitations towards truncated processes as open questions in this field. This work was motivated by the register of elements related to the water particles monitoring (relative humidity), an important source of moisture for the Copiapó watershed, and the Atacama region of Chile (the Atacama Desert), and presenting high asymmetry for rates and proportions data. This paper proposes a new control chart for interval data about rates and proportions (symbolic interval data) when they are not results of a Bernoulli process. The unit-Lindley distribution has many interesting properties, such as having only one parameter, from which we develop the unit-Lindley chart for both classical and symbolic data. The performance of the proposed control chart is analyzed using the average run length (ARL), median run length (MRL), and standard deviation of the run length (SDRL) metrics calculated through an extensive Monte Carlo simulation study. Results from the real data applications reveal the tool’s potential to be adopted to estimate the control limits in a Statistical Process Control (SPC) framework.

This work describes a strategy to reduce the cost associated with poor quality, by reducing the parts per million defects by Defining, Measuring, Analyzing, Implementing and Controlling (DMAIC) the production process. The method uses a combination of principles of Six Sigma applications, Lean Manufacturing and Shanin Strategy. The process has been used in analyzing the manufacturing lines of a brake lever at a Connecticut automotive components manufacturing company for reducing the cost associated with the production of nonconforming parts. The analysis was carried out with the help of the data collected on nonconformance parts and the application of phase change rules from DMAIC (+). Data analysis was carried out on statistical process control softwares, MINITAB and SPC XL 2000. Although, the problem of tight bushing existed on only one line of the brake lever assembly, this problem solving approach has solved the tight bushing problems on all assembly and alternates lines in a time- and cost-effective way.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to present the current status of a quality management practice in Serbia, in terms of the development and application of integrated managements systems (IMS), and research and implementation of Six Sigma and the related techniques. Design/methodology/approach – Two main aspects of total quality management (TQM) have been considered: institutional (organisational or strategic) aspect that corresponds to standardised management systems and their integration, and technical (quality engineering) aspect whose main contributor is Six Sigma. The findings of a comprehensive study on IMS implementation in Serbia have been presented, based on the results of a questionnaire that was sent to 54 organisations during 2013. Also, the significant technical improvements and tangible benefits of a recently conducted Six Sigma project were shown, including the application of the advanced quality engineering techniques within DMAIC method. Findings – Good QM practice in Serbia is improving, both in terms of the organisational (IMS) and technical (Six Sigma) aspect, that server as a good basis for the adoption of TQM in manufacturing companies from various sectors. It could be anticipated that these results will facilitate the adoption of an overall TQM culture in Serbia and leverage its future sustainability. Originality/value – This paper offers key insights into IMS and Six Sigma implementation in Serbia. This could encourage manufacturing organisations in developing countries to adopt IMS and Six Sigma, in order to boost the overall TQM culture and gain a competitive advantage.

Currently, most companies can select a number of methodologies to improve their business processes, including Six Sigma, Lean Six Sigma, Total Quality Management, Kaizen and Business Process Reengineering (BPR). Obviously, the choice of an appropriate methodology should be guided by the goals of the organization. In this regard, BPR is one of the best methodologies that can help companies ensure the continuity of their business so that they remain relevant for a long time. More importantly, BPR can help members rethink their existing practices and make significant improvements to the existing business process. The authors conducted a study of the theory of BPR. The main definitions are considered in detail, the essence of reengineering is revealed, five stages of implementation are named, possible positive and negative points in the process of BPR implementation are noted, examples are given. Based on the foregoing, it was concluded that companies that need to make changes in their business processes can adopt BPR as the most suitable methodology that will help to make improvements in their workplace.

Abstract The study aimed to know the overall quality of the concept and its importance in providing high-quality health services and the availability of the key factors in the application and services and to take administrative factors, technical and human and financial, which may contribute to the raise if directed properly and have an adult in improving the quality of health services impact. Based on the nature of the study and the objectives it seeks, the analytical descriptive approach was used. It was based on the study of the phenomenon as it exists in reality and it is treated as a precise description and expressed in qualitative and quantitative terms. To analyze the analytical aspects of the research subject and then collect the initial data through the questionnaire as a main tool for research, designed specifically for this purpose, and distributed to government hospitals in Khartoum State, and included the study community department managers and patients in government hospitals in Khartoum state. A random sample was collected (300) department managers and patients from the Khartoum government hospitals. Each individual has the opportunity to be a member of the study sample during the year 2016. The study concluded with a number of results, the most important of which is that the hospital management has the material potential (furniture, equipment, ...) to use the Six Sigma curriculum with an intermediate degree. The hospital management is ready to use the Six Sigma curriculum to a high degree. Six Sigma In the middle level, the hospital management is keen to train the heads of departments to form teams for the process of continuous improvement to a high degree, the hospital administration is continuously improving the purpose of reducing the deviations and errors that occur, the hospital management is ready to provide an information system Its data continuously At, there is the management of the hospital readiness to provide direct contact with an intermediate degree of quality coaches tuning software system. The study presented a number of recommendations, the most important of which is linking the promotion system in the public hospitals in Khartoum state with the quality control program, paying attention to the overall quality and stressing the possibility of using it in hospitals in Khartoum State because of its scientific and practical importance and improving the quality of the services and the operations provided. ABSTRACT The establishment of grain crops in Brazil is an important industrial process in the agricultural chain, requiring the correct deposition of granular fertilizer over the sowing furrow and more efficient, precise, and sustainable assessments in the operation, which can be achieved with the statistical process control. This study aimed to assess the effect of the angular velocity on different inclinations of the helical metering mechanism on the granular fertilizer deposition. An automated electronic bench was used to assess the deposition quality of granular fertilizers considering different angular velocities (1.11, 1.94, and 2.77 m s-1) and longitudinal and transverse inclinations (+15, +7.5, 0, −7.5, and −15°), with the helical doser by overflow. Flow data were collected and submitted to descriptive statistics and statistical process control. The metering mechanism showed expected variations, with acceptable performance under process control. The values of the flow rates of the granular fertilizer increased as velocity increased, standing out longitudinal inclinations of +7.5 and +15°, providing higher fertilizer depositions.

Quality is a term that has diflferent meanings to different people. Quality set out in this paper are the features and characteristics of the total of a product or service associated with its ability to satisfij the needs of the visible or disguised. The quality of the environment requires an establishment of TQM because quality can not be examined only in a product. In this paper also discussed the concept of the seven TQM: continuous improvement, Six Sigma, employee empowerment, benchmarking, just in time, the concept of Taguchi TQM techniques and knowledge. TQM is the seventh technique check sheet, scatter diagrams, cause-effect diagrams, Pareto charts, flow charts, histograms, and statistical process control.

Continuous improvement gained much attention in the literature as one of the principles in total quality management and practice under methodologies such as Lean or Six Sigma. Continuous improvement in organizations represents a comprehensive process that includes involvement of all people on all organizational levels to make improvements throughout the whole organization. Therefore, building and sustaining the organizational CI capability through practicing the CI behaviours leads to achieving better efficiency, effectiveness and business results of the organization. Also applying CI behaviours leads to change in organizational culture which is, in the long run, oriented toward making every day continuous improvements. The purpose of this paper is to present which CI behaviours can be developed in organization and measured according to the Bessant's evolutionary model of continuous improvement behaviour. Also, the goal of the research is to present based on the conducted research, the state of CI practice regarding adopted CI behaviours which will be presented as the development level of CI behaviours that researched manufacturing companies in Croatia with ISO 9001 certificate, have.
