We aim to rethink personal digital storytelling in light of new forms of communication that have emerged on social networks, as well as to analyse the core value of image in all of them. Three specific objectives are proposed: i) to know the habits and practices of young people in relation to the publication of digital (and other) narratives in social networks, ii) to identify profiles and types of young publishers, iii) to characterize the differentiating elements between the types of young publishers. For this purpose, we have designed a questionnaire on young people’s social network posting practices. The sample corresponds to 835 young people between 12 and 22 years old from Ibero-American countries (Spain, Chile and Colombia). Our analysis of the results of the questionnaire shows certain differences according to age, country and gender, along with several significant similarities. The respondents have been classified according to posting frequency and type of posts. Last of all, we make some considerations on how to incorporate the results of the questionnaire in the training methodology of personal digital storytelling.

The article presents the results of a sociological study conducted in October-December 2018 in Ekaterinburg. The subject of the study is the factors influencing the social and cultural adaptation of migrants from Central Asia in the Ural megalopolis. The sociological study was conducted using quantitative and qualitative strategies – the method of questionnaire survey (n = 400) and the method of in-depth interview (n = 10). The study revealed a new trend in the migrant environment of the Ural metropolis – the formation of ethnic establishment within the migrant community of the same nationality, which has a relatively high level of income, with a high probability of planning to stay in Russia and obtain citizenship. The author concludes about a new phenomenon in migrant communities – the interaction of migrants with their compatriots left in the country of origin through a social network. Social networks (Vkontakte, Facebook, etc.) are now beginning to replace Diaspora in solving the problems that arise in migrants community in their host culture, especially at the initial stage of their social and cultural adaptation, which indicates the weakening of Diaspora relations of migrants. Every third respondent pointed to this factor. At the same time, the interaction of migrants with their compatriots through the social network, solving problems through social networks, conversation and communication in the network in their native language hinder the social and cultural adaptation of the migrant in the host culture. The study finds out that for young people who came to the Urals from Central Asia it is more difficult to adapt to Russian culture. This is stipulated by the fact that the older generation migrants were socialized in the Soviet Union, learning Russian language, Russian culture, etc. Besides, the older generation does not see a significant difference between the two cultures. In this regard, it is easier for them to undergo social and cultural adaptation in Russia compared to young people. At the same time, the majority of migrants are young and middle-aged people. The study reveals the leading external (education; cultural environment of the host community; age of the migrant; presence / absence of citizenship, etc.) and internal (interest in Russian culture, motivation to move to Russia) factors that ambiguously affect the social and cultural adaptation of migrants from Central Asia in the Ural metropolis.

The advent of internet and communication technologies enabled marketers of brands to have more ways to communicate with their audience; one of which is connecting with other brands. One of the most popular outlets that allows brands to connect with other brands online is Facebook. Brands on Facebook can establish an official fan page where they can interact with their fans as well as network with other brands’ official Facebook pages through “liking” them. This paper seeks to investigate the “liking” behavior among local and global brands (brand to brand) on Facebook in Saudi Arabia and whether these brands’ “liking” network is based on homophilous relationships. The results showed that both status (e.g., geography and gender), and value (e.g., family ties and religion) homophilous relationships are in play. However, value homophily was a strong factor in brands’ network in Saudi Arabia for some brands in the absence of status homophily network. Although status homophily in general played a role, geographical proximity was not a strong factor compared to previous reports on social network analysis. The data for this study were obtained from 40 brands marketed in Saudi Arabia. Using Netvizz and Gephi, network structures were mapped to explore the relationships among the brand’s’ Facebook pages.

Infographics in social networks present more elaborate proposals than simple text. In this study we analyze the general patterns of Twitter infographic messages to determine its main characteristics. Subsequently, we conducted a test to compare learning differences when young people use infographics instead of text as a source of information. Our findings suggest that while infographics are more effective than text for digitally mediated learning in young people, an analysis of age and gender subgroups showed that this effectiveness was only statistically significant for older people.

Social networks have become areas of social interaction among young people where they create a profile to relate with others. The way this population uses social networks has an impact on their socialization as well as the emotional and affective aspects of their development. The purpose of this investigation was to analyze how Facebook is used by young people to communicate among themselves and the experiences they gain from it. On the one hand, while teenagers claim to know the risks, they admit to accepting strangers as friends and to sharing large amounts of true data about their private lives. For this reason, it is necessary to understand the media and digital phenomenon that the youth are living through. Although they are legally prohibited from using Facebook until they are 13, the number of underage users of this social network is growing, without any restraint from parents or schools. This investigation compares the use of Facebook by youth in Colombia and Spain by using the content analysis and interview techniques. In Colombia 100 Facebook profiles were analyzed and 20 interviews carried out with students between 12- and 15-years-old attending the Institución Educativa Distrital Técnico Internacional school in Bogotá. In Spain, 100 Facebook profiles were analyzed and 20 interviews held with students of the same age group attending various secondary schools in Andalusia.

Abstract Background Increased level of physical activity (PA) is one of the approaches offered by school health services in Norway for the prevention and treatment of children and adolescents with overweight and obesity. Research has found that young people with overweight and obesity tend to participate in less physical activity than youth of healthier weight. They also tend to perceive several barriers to PA at the environmental, interpersonal, and individual levels. This paper explores how adolescents’, who receive follow-up of weight management in primary health care, experience barriers to and facilitators for engaging in physical activity within their social networks. Methods This is a qualitative study with an explorative design inspired by phenomenological ideas based on analysis of semi-structured interviews with 10 adolescents aged 13–18. Interviews were conducted with young people with overweight or obesity in weight-related follow-up in primary health care settings in various regions in Norway. Results The results describe the barriers to and facilitators of PA in the adolescents’ social networks. The study reveals a strong emphasis on the importance of a social network for engaging in PA. According to these adolescents’ experiences of PA in their social networks, organizing PA groups that consist of similarly young people with overweight can contribute to an increased level of PA and help modify their negative perceptions of such activity. Conclusions This study finds that young people with overweight and obesity place a strong emphasis on a social network where they feel equal to others if they are to engage in PA. The study suggests that School Health Nurses should establish a social network of adolescents in the same situation, in the form of organized activity groups for young people with overweight or obesity, rather than advice on increased participation in ordinary organized sports or individual exercising. This can facilitate an increase in the PA level among this group of young people.

This paper analyses the social and technical context in which young people create and maintain social media profiles. The analysis was based primarily on ten semi-structured hour-long interviews conducted with MySpace users—all young people between 16 and 19 years of age from two UK schools, supplemented by a questionnaire and examination of the texts they produced. An overview is given of the nature of the profiles created by the interviewees. The process of profile creation and maintenance is then placed in the wider context of the uses of MySpace as described by those interviewed, and some of the influences which appear to have shapedwhat was produced are outlined. In the conclusion, the implications of the manner in which these practices are shaped for institutions involved in digital storytelling are explored.

The Digital Natives naturally coexist with new technologies and the social phenomena it brings. Digital natives are a virtual demanding community, they look for social networks that may contains tools and digital contents according to their personalities, interest and passions, youth and teenagers could leave a social network if the network does not have the features that they need. A interesting case of movement between social networks have happened in Spain; for some years young people actively involved in a national social network for teenagers named Tuenti, later, with the arrived of Facebook to Spain, they left Tuenti and moved to Facebook. We have evaluated this situation for extract information about what caused it, because we think something similar is happening at this time: it seems that Spanish young people are abandoning Facebook and moving to Instagram.
