This paper investigates the quantitative literacy and reasoning (QLR) of freshmen students pursuing a Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM)–related degree but do not necessarily have a Senior High School (SHS) STEM background. QLR is described as a multi-faceted skill focused on the application of Mathematics and Statistics rather than just a mere mastery of the content domains of these fields. This article compares the QLR performance between STEM and non-STEM SHS graduates. Further, this quantitative-correlational study involves 255 freshman students, of which 115 have non-STEM academic background from the SHS. Results reveal that students with a SHS STEM background had significantly higher QLR performance. Nevertheless, this difference does not cloud the fact that their overall QLR performance marks the lowest when compared to results of similar studies. This paper also shows whether achievement in SHS courses such as General Mathematics, and Statistics and Probability are significant predictors of QLR. Multivariate regression analysis discloses that achievement in the latter significantly relates to QLR. However, the low coefficient of determination (10.30%) suggests that achievement in these courses alone does not account to the students’ QLR. As supported by a deeper investigation of the students’ answers, it is concluded that QLR indeed involves complex processes and is more than just being proficient in Mathematics and Statistics.

This research aims to see how to learn geography, how students' disaster preparedness are, and how the contribution of geography learning to disaster preparedness of students in Public Senior High School in Kendari. By using quantitative approach, the data were collected through observation and questionnaires in 5 schools in Kendari which were distributed to 150 students and 10 teachers. The results of students' learning geography with several indicators are presented as follows; with learning variable, 12.5% is categorized as low, 46.5% moderate, 41% high; with preparedness variable, 25.5% is categorized as low, 49.5% medium, 25% high. There is a contribution of geography learning to disaster preparedness with the coefficient of determination R square (R2) of 39.4% while 60.6% is from other factors. Then, the influence of X on Y can be written in the form of a regression equation, namely (Y = 55.998 + 0.159 X). Based on the regression equation, it can be denied that geography learning has a positive correlation with disaster preparedness of students in Public Senior High School in Kendari

This research studies the correlation. The subject of this study students 'high school science class XI Pekanbaru District 12 and the object of this study is the influence of active service following the guidance of a group of XI grade students' self confidence Natural Science State Senior High School 12 Pekanbaru. The study population was a class XI science students who had attended group counseling services, amounting to 40 people. Given the population is so large, the writer uses Total Sampling. Techniques used to collect data a questionnaire prepared following the Likert scale. Once the data is collected and then analyzed by Product Moment correlation with the formula. Based on the data analysis can be concluded that (1) active service following the guidance of the class XI science students State Senior High School 12 Pekanbaru is located in the category of being which is equal to 76 316%. (2) confidence class XI science students State Senior High School 12 Pekanbaru is located in the category of 67.5%. (3) Based on the obtained correlation test correlation coefficient of 0703. The results of these correlation coefficients indicate that there are significant effect between self-esteem class XI science student State Senior High School 12 Pekanbaru. Effect of active service following the guidance of the group of XI grade students' self confidence Natural Science State Senior High School 12 Pekanbaru obtained from the coefficient of determination was 49%. This paper examined the level of strand specificity and perceived effectiveness of language activities in the Senior High School English for Academic and Professional Purposes (EAPP) instruction. Specifically, it determined if a difference exists in the level of strand specificity and perceived effectiveness of language activities and if there is a relationship between the two variables. Adhering to descriptive-comparative and correlational research designs, this study used a researcher-made questionnaire conducted to 79 Grade 11 Science Technology Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) students. The findings revealed a high level of strand specificity and perceived effectiveness of EAPP language activities, both when taken as a whole and grouped as oral or visual. Furthermore, no significant difference exists both between the level of strand specificity of oral and visual language activities and their perceived effectiveness. Finally, strand specificity and perceived effectiveness have a moderately positive significant relationship.

This study determined the relationship of self-efficacy, attitude, and performance in mathematics of senior high school students. Specifically, the study (a) described the level of mathematics self-efficacy of studentrespondents in terms of mastery experience, vicarious experience-peers, vicarious experience-adults, social persuasions, and physiological state, (b) characterized the attitude of the student-respondents towards mathematics in terms of anxiety, confidence, enjoyment, and benefits/value, (c) described the mathematics performance of the respondents, (d) determined the significant relationship between self-efficacy, attitude, and mathematics performance of the respondents, and (e) determined the predictors of students mathematics performance. Simple random sampling was used in identifying the 229 samples from three (3) public secondary schools offering senior high school in the Tablas Island. The researchers used the validated Self-Efficacy and Attitude towards Mathematics questionnaire. It was found out that the student-respondents have moderate mathematics self-efficacy in mastery experience, vicarious experience-peers, vicarious experience-adults, social persuasions, and physiological state. It was also found out that there was a high level of attitude towards mathematics in terms of benefits/value and moderate level of attitude towards mathematics in terms of anxiety, confidence, and enjoyment. Majority of the student-respondents did not meet the expectations in terms of mathematics performance, but a significant percentage of the group was average in the acceptable range of rating as significant relationship exists between self-efficacy, attitude and mathematics performance. The study revealed that the mathematics performance was predicted by variables such as vicarious experience-adults, benefits/value, anxiety, and vicarious experience-peers.

The study concerned here was to describe (1) the characteristics of humanistic mathematics learning and (2) the stages to actualize such learning. The said study was a qualitative one employing the phenomenological approach with six stages of inductive analysis. The data were validated by using the data source triangulation technique. The study involved 75 students of an elementary school, SD Mangunan, Berbah, Sleman, 36 students of a state senior high school, SMA Negeri 1 of Sewon, Bantul, and 42 students of another state senior high school, SMA Negeri 1 of Dlingo, Bantul. The results of the validation showed that the data were valid and consistent. The conclusions of the study are as follows. (1) Humanistic mathematics learning is characterized by the facts that the use of the mathematics learning media gives students space and time to explore and construct mathematical concept understanding and mathematics learning methods are applied by using an inductive approach. (2) The stages to realize humanistic mathematics learning include the setting of mathematics learning objectives based on humanism, existentialism, and religious teachings by building individual students’ strengths through independent and civilized manners, the setting of mathematics learning goals emphasizing balance among the domains of idea, intention, and action, and the setting of the development of contextual and cooperative mathematics learning strategies. Keywords: humanization, mathematics learning

This study enhanced the 7E instructional model towards enriching the science inquiry skills of senior high school learners in General Chemistry 1. A total of 136 Grade 12 learners enrolled in the Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics (STEM) strand participated in the study. The study was composed of three phases. In Phase I, the generated themes nature of topics, learning environment, learner-related and teacher-related issues were found to be the causes of difficulty in science inquiry skill enrichment. The learners’ meaningful learning experiences during the process were encapsulated in Phase II. Finally, Phase III used the generated themes in the enhancement of 7E instructional model promoting inquiry-based and constructive learning among senior high school learners.
