Background The prevalence of thrombocytopenia in neonates ranges from 22 to 35%, and one of the most feared complica­tions is intraventricular hemorrhage (IVH). Previous research in Cipto Mangunkusumo Hospital (CMH), Jakarta reported a high incidence of IVH (43.47%) in infants with a gestational age of <35 weeks. Intraventricular hemorrhage causes disturbances in neurological development and can be fatal. In Indonesia, re­search on the relationship between thrombocytopenia and IVH has been limited.Objective To study the relationship between thrombocytopenia and IVH in neonates with gestational age <35 weeks and assess for a correlation between the severity of thrombocytopenia and the severity of IVH.Methods This cross-sectional study was performed by reviewing medical records in the Neonatology Division of the Child Health Department, University of Indonesia, CMH. Subjects were neonates hospitalized from January 2012 to December 2014 with IVH. Subjects were categorized into either mild to moderate IVH (grade ≤2) or severe IVH (grade >2). Thrombocyte counts were recorded on the same day as the diagnosis of IVH.Results The risk of severe IVH was 28.2% in neonates with thrombocyte counts <100,000/uL, and 10.4% in neonates without thrombocytopenia (P=0.014). Multivariate analysis revealed that gestational age <32 weeks and the use of respira­tory support (ventilator and high frequency oscillatory ventila­tion) had significant associations with severe IVH. However, multivariate analysis did not show a significant relationship between thrombocytopenia and severe IVH (correlation coef­ficient = 0.21).Conclusion Thrombocytopenia is not significantly associated with the incidence of severe IVH based on multivariate analysis. Also, the severity of thrombocytopenia has no correlation with the severity of IVH.

Background: Fetal age actually begins at conception and an equivalent term is conceptional age. Uncertain gestational age (GA) has been associated with adverse pregnancy outcomes independent of maternal characteristics. The objective was to evaluate the accuracy of fetal foot length (FFL) in estimation of gestational age.Methods: It was a cross sectional study. Trans abdominal ultrasound on 150 pregnant women with normal singleton pregnancies between 16 to 40 weeks was done to measure FFL. The relationship between GA and FFL was analysed by simple linear regression.Results: A linear relationship was demonstrated between FFL and GA. (GA (in weeks)=7.490+0.393×FFL (in mm)) with significant correlation (r=0.985, p<0.001).Conclusions: Ultrasonographic measurement of FFL is a reliable indicator of gestational age and can be a useful alternative to estimate GA when other routine biometric parameters are not conclusive.

Purpose: To describe the relationship between diabetic retinopathy (DR) and choroidal thickness (CT), and systemic macro and microangiopathy in patients with type 2 diabetes (T2D). Methods: Cross-sectional study enrolling 200 eyes (100 T2D naïve patients) without macular edema. DR was graded and swept-source optical coherence tomography Triton DRI (Topcon) was used to measure CT, which gave automatic measurements in ETDRS grid. An endocrinologist examined all the patients and searched in their medical records for data about macro and microangiopathy: ischemic cardiopathy (IC), cerebrovascular accident (CVA), peripheral artery disease (PAD), nephropathy, and peripheral polyneuropathy (PPN). Results: Mean age was 67.38 ± 8.15 years, mean axial length was 23.26 ± 0.09 mm, and mean IOP was 16.75 ± 3.06 mmHg. Sixty eyes had no DR, 46 had mild, 64 had moderate, 20 had severe, and 10 had proliferative DR. IC was correlated with horizontal choroidal zones ( p < 0.05 and η between 0.16 and 0.21) but not with DR ( p = 0.16). CVA was neither correlated with CT ( p > 0.05) nor with DR ( p = 0.39). PAD was not correlated with CT ( p > 0.05) but it was with DR ( p = 0.03). The type of nephropathy was correlated both with CT in vertical sectors ( p < 0.05 and η between 0.15 and 0.27) and DR ( p = 0.01, τ = 0.24). PPN was not correlated with CT ( p > 0.05) but it was with DR ( p = 0.03). Conclusions: DR is correlated with microangiopathy (nephropathy and PPN) but not with macroangiopathy (IC, CVA, and PAD). CT is mildly correlated with nephropathy and IC. Some choroidal regions are more sensitive than others to each diabetic macro and microvascular manifestation.

This research aims to analyze the relationship of age, sex, years of work, nutritional status and work shifts to work fatigue. This research is a quantitative observational analytic study with an analytic cross-sectional study design and a sample size of 60 people. Primary data were collected by direct observation, interviews with the KAUPK2 questionnaire and measurement of Lassidaya L77. The results of bivariate analysis showed a relationship between age and nurse work fatigue (p = 0.026). There was no gender relationship (p = 0.552), years of service (p = 0.104), nutritional status (p = 0.288) and work shift (p = 0.132) with work fatigue. Arifin Achmad Hospital (p = 0.009) POR 12,199 (95%: 1,847 - 80,575).  Counfonding work shifts with tenure. There is no relationship between sex and nutritional status with the incidence of work fatigue. Nutritional status (p = 0.571), POR 1.458 (95%: 0.395 - 5.379). Nutritional status (p = 0.866) 1.062 POR (95%: 0.527 - 2.140). The age variable was not included in the multivariate analysis because it was homogeneous. From the results of the analysis it was concluded that the working period ≥ 10 years affects work fatigue compared to ten years <10 years.

The aim of this study was to estimate the prevalence and factors associated with the occurrence of incidents related to medication, registered in the medical records of patients admitted to a Surgical Clinic, in 2010. This is a cross-sectional study, conducted at a university hospital, with a sample of 735 hospitalizations. Was performed the categorization of types of incidents, multivariate analysis of regression logistic and calculated the prevalence. The prevalence of drug-related incidents was estimated at 48.0% and were identified, as factors related to the occurrence of these incidents: length of hospitalization more than four days, prescribed three or more medications per day and realization of surgery intervention. It is expected to have contributed for the professionals and area managers can identify risky situations and rethink their actions.

ObjectiveThis study aimed to investigate the relationship between birth order and stereoacuity among Chinese children aged 60–72 months.DesignCross-sectional.Participants1342 children with complete data on the questionnaire, stereoacuity and refraction were included.ResultsThe mean stereoacuity was 53.2±1.7, 56.9±1.9 and 60.9±1.5 s of arc in the first-born group, second-born group and third-born group, respectively. Lower birth order was significantly correlated with better stereoacuity (p=0.036). Third-borns (OR=3.02, p=0.027) were at higher risk of having subnormal stereoacuity compared with first-borns in the multivariate analysis.ConclusionLater-borns had poorer stereoacuity than first-borns.

Increased levels of the hormones estrogen and progesterone in the blood during pregnancy can cause gingivitis due to vascular changes that cause the gingiva to become more sensitive especially to toxins and other irritants, such as plaques and calculus, which causes the gingiva to become easily inflamed. Pregnancy can also aggravate gingivitis due to the excessive inflammatory response of the gingiva to dental plaque and hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy. This study aims to determine the differences in the degree of gingivitis in pregnant women in each trimester of gestational age. This study was a cross-sectional study conducted in April 2019 on 80 pregnant women with gingivitis who examined their pregnancies at the Puskesmas Merdeka Palembang during the fourth week of March 2019. The relationship between the degree of gingivitis in each trimester of pregnancy was analyzed using Fisher's exact test with 95% confidence interval. The results showed that gingivitis was found most frequently in third trimester pregnancy (47.5%) and mild gingivitis, mostly experienced by pregnant women in trimester II pregnancy (52.6%), while moderate and severe gingivitis was more experienced by trimester pregnant women III (50% and 81.8%). The statistical test results showed a significant relationship between the gestational age and severity of gingivitis (p 0.05). It can be concluded that increasing gestational age is related to the increasing severity of gingivitis.

Postdate pregnancy is a pregnancy that pasts more than forty weeks. This can be dangerous for the mother, fetus, and newborn. By knowing the most appropriate ultrasound criteria in predicting the probability of postdate pregnancy, its complications can be reduced by taking timely measures. Therefore, the present study was conducted with the aim of determining the relationship between ultrasound criteria in determining the age of postdate fetuses. This cross-sectional study (descriptive-analytical type) was done in Kermanshah Imam Reza Hospital on 33 pregnant women that, according to LMP and first-trimester ultrasound, pregnancy age was more than 40 weeks. Gestational age was calculated by various ultrasound criteria, including head circumference measurement (HC), Abdominal Circumference (AC), Biparietal Diameter (BPD), femur length (FL), and Transcerebellar Diameter (TCD). The findings were compared with calculated age by LMP. Data were analyzed by SPSS16 software. Correlation rate of pregnancy age based on LMP with FL (R=0.576, P<0.001), AC (R=0.208, P=0.245), BPD (R= -0.200, P=0.264), HC (R= -0.211, P=0.238) and TCD were (R=0.111, P=0.538). The pregnancy age correlation rate based on LMP with ultrasound criteria in general was (R=0.140, P=0.436). There was a direct relationship between gestational age based on LMP with FL, AC, TCD and inversely related to BPD and HC. Among the sonographic criteria, only the FL criterion was significantly correlated with LMP. In general, the correlation between gestational age based on LMP and ultrasound was not statistically significant.

Background and Objectives: Neutropenia is the absolute count of neutrophils less than 1500 per cubic millimeter. Because the early detection of the cause of neutropenia and appropriate measures to reduce its mortality and financial costs are important, this study was conducted to investigate the relationship between the cause of neutropenia and the severity of neutropenia with clinical and laboratory findings to take appropriate measures. Subjects and Methods This study was a cross-sectional descriptive-analytical study. In this study, 111 patients with neutropenia were studied in Hazrat Masoumeh Hospital in Qom City, Iran, by a census method in 3 years from 2014 to 2016. Necessary information was obtained from the patients' medical records through a questionnaire. Data were analyzed by SPSS software. Results The study findings showed relationships between the cause of the disease and variables of age (P= 0.007), the severity of neutropenia (P<0.001), disease outcome (P<0.001), length of hospital stay (P<0.001), Hb (P<0.001), and WBC (P<0.001). The causes of neutropenia in the studied patients were viral (54.1%), sepsis (24.3%), malignancy (10.8%), anemia (4.5%), idiopathic (3.6%) and ITP (2.7%). Conclusion The present study showed a significant relationship between demographic and laboratory findings with the cause and severity of the disease. Therefore, considering these factors at the beginning of hospitalization can play a crucial role in promoting proper management in the treatment of patients with neutropenia.

Background Chronic severe anemia is known to increase cardiac output when the hemoglobin levels are < 7 g/dL for more than three months. Chronic severe anemia is also associated with a high incidence of cardiac enlargement and congestive heart failure.Objective To determine the relationship between hemoglobin level and cardiothoracic ratio in children with chronic severe anemia.Methods We conducted a cross-sectional study in Haji Adam Malik Hospital, Medan, Indonesia from October to December 2009. Subjects had chronic severe anemia and were aged 1 to 15 years. Hematological data was collected at the beginning of the study. The heart was considered enlarged if the cardiothoracic ratio (CTR) was greater than 50% (0.50) by chest roentgenogram. We used simple linear regression to analyze the relationship between hemoglobin and CTR values.Results Thirty subjects enrolled in our study. Their mean age was 115.7 months (SD 56.95). Hemoglobin levels ranged from 2.1 to 6.9 g/dL. The mean hemoglobin level and duration of anemia were 4.71 g/dL (SD 1.48) and 3.9 months (SD 0.70), respectively. Heart enlargement was observed in 23 patients (76.6%). The CTR ranged from 0.52 to 0.69, with a mean of 0.54 (SD 0.06). We found a significant correlation between CTR and hemoglobin levels with Pearson’s correlation coefficient, (r) = - 0.612 and P = 0.001.Conclusion Low hemoglobin levels significantly correlated with high CTR values in children with chronic severe anemia.
