One of the ways to overcome dental and oral health problems is by brushing teeth, the optimal result of brushing teeth properly is the morning after breakfast and the night before going to bed. Tooth brushing using toothbrushes is a form of dental plaque removal and prevention of accumulation of the teeth and gingival surface because plaque is the main etiological factor of periodontal disease and is associated with dental caries, therefore in removing plaque it is very important to determine long-term success in preventing caries tooth. Through the promotion of dental health education, it is expected to increase knowledge and foster awareness of the importance of toothbrushes to maintain healthy teeth and mouth. The purpose of this study is to recognize the differences in the influence of dental health education promotion using blog videos (vlog) with lecture methods on the practice of brushing teeth. This type of research is a Quasi-experiment with the design of the Two-Group Design. Samples were taken by purposive sampling namely SD Panghegar and SD Sukarela. Univariate and bivariate analysis with Wilcoxon and Mann-Whitney tests. This study shows the promotion of dental health education using vlog and lectures has an effect on increasing the practice of brushing teeth. It can be seen that there is an increase in the practice of brushing teeth from the value of pre-test and post-test respectively with a value of p 0.05. But based on statistical tests there is no significant difference in influence by using both methods with a value of p = 0.035. This means that both methods are effective in increasing knowledge about the practice of brushing teeth, and there is no significant difference between the promotion of dental health education using vlogs and using lectures.

Pregnancy is a unique time in a woman’s life, accompanied by a variety of physiologic, anatomic and hormonal changes that can affect how oral health care is provided. Good oral health during pregnancy is important to the overall health of both the expectant mother and her baby. Unfortunately, there may be times when pregnant women and family, obstetricians and on occasion dentists are skeptical of dental care during pregnancy owing to prejudices about the safety of dental treatment, resulting in delay of the dental treatment. This article aims to review general considerations of pregnant patients’ dental treatment, and possible dental complications of pregnancy and their management. Search for information through google scholar with the keyword’s “pregnancy” and “dental treatment". With proper technique, dental treatment, dental radiographs and drug use in dental treatment do not place the fetus at risk and should be taken if they are of potential benefit. Preventive care should be delivered throughout pregnancy, and elective routine care is best delivered during the second trimester. Dentists and health agencies should provide and distribute information to women about the importance of maintaining oral health during pregnancy.

Increased levels of the hormones estrogen and progesterone in the blood during pregnancy can cause gingivitis due to vascular changes that cause the gingiva to become more sensitive especially to toxins and other irritants, such as plaques and calculus, which causes the gingiva to become easily inflamed. Pregnancy can also aggravate gingivitis due to the excessive inflammatory response of the gingiva to dental plaque and hormonal changes that occur during pregnancy. This study aims to determine the differences in the degree of gingivitis in pregnant women in each trimester of gestational age. This study was a cross-sectional study conducted in April 2019 on 80 pregnant women with gingivitis who examined their pregnancies at the Puskesmas Merdeka Palembang during the fourth week of March 2019. The relationship between the degree of gingivitis in each trimester of pregnancy was analyzed using Fisher's exact test with 95% confidence interval. The results showed that gingivitis was found most frequently in third trimester pregnancy (47.5%) and mild gingivitis, mostly experienced by pregnant women in trimester II pregnancy (52.6%), while moderate and severe gingivitis was more experienced by trimester pregnant women III (50% and 81.8%). The statistical test results showed a significant relationship between the gestational age and severity of gingivitis (p 0.05). It can be concluded that increasing gestational age is related to the increasing severity of gingivitis.

Teeth have an aesthetic value because teeth which are clean, neat and white can increase self confidence. Staining or dental discoloration can disrupt the appearance and cause discomfort. The most common type of discoloration is extrinsic discoloration. Treatment that can be done to overcome extrinsic discoloration is extracoronal bleaching. One way to avoid the extracoronal bleaching side effects is application of remineralization materials. The recommended remineralization materials for post-bleaching are fluoride and phospho peptide-amorphous calcium phosphate (CPP-ACP). This research aims to know the effect of whey extract application and CPP-ACP on tooth enamel hardness after extracoronal bleaching. Experimental laboratory with pre- and post-test control design was performed on 24 first maxillary premolar which devided into 3 groups. On group I, specimens were immersed in artificial saliva. Specimen in group II were immersed in whey extract meanwhile specimens were immersed in CPP-ACP on group III. Whey extract and CPP-ACP immersions were conducted 10 minutes every 12 hours for 15 days. The enamel surface roughness test was performed twice, after extracoronal bleaching treatment and after 15 days remineralization agent application. This study result indicated significant differences between group I and group II and group III (p0,05), but there was no significant difference between group II and group III (p0,05). This study showed the enamel surface hardness after whey extract application is higher than CPP-ACP but difference was not significant statistically

Mastication is the mechanical process of breaking down food in oral cavity. The mastication system involves several components, including saliva and alveolar bone. Salivary flow rate and alveolar bone mineral density have been reported decreased in menopausal women due to the impact of declining estrogen levels. Menopause is the permanent cessation of menstruation resulting from the loss of ovarian follicular activity. The aim of this study was to evaluate the masticatory performance in menopausal women in Kelurahan Talang Kelapa RW 19. This observational experimental study with cross-sectional design involved 36 women, consisting of 18 women and 18 non-menopause women. Masticatory performance was evaluated using a sieve method. Each subject was asked to chew 3 gram peanuts for 20 masticatory strokes, which that procedure was repeated for five times. Masticatory performance was measured using a sieve method which based on the assessment of the size of food particles that have been chewed and filtered over a number 10 mesh sieve. Percentage masticatory performance was obtained by dividing volume of particles passed through the filter with the volume of total particles. The masticatory performance data were analyzed statically with independent samples T test. The mean masticatory performance score was 13,71%, in menopausal women and 30,62% in non-menopausal women. It was found that masticatory performance in menopausal women was significantly lower when compared to non-menopausal women (p0,05). It may be concluded that menopause decreased the masticatory performance.

Monocytes play a role in the first defense against microorganisms that harm the body by activating nuclear factor kβ (Nf-kβ) which is the main regulator of inflammatory genes, one of which is TNF-α. TNF-α at excessive levels will cause tissue damage. Therefore an immunomodulator is needed which can regulate the body's immune system. One natural ingredient that acts as an immunomodulator is fish bones. Purpose of research: To analyze the effect of goatfish’s bone extract on TNF-α expression in human monocytes exposed to P. gingivalis. Method: experimental laboratories in vitro. TNF-α expression was tested by imunocytochemical techniques. Results: The results showed that the average number of monocytes expressing TNF-α in group P1 (group of diclofenac sodium) was 42.33 cells per cell. In the P2 group (P. gingivalis group) was 95 cell percent cells and for P3 (fish bone group) was 74.33 cells per cell and the control group was 11.66 cells per hundred cells. Conclusion: goatfish’s bone extract can act as an anti-inflammatory which is effective in reducing TNF-α expression in monocyte exposed to P. gingivalis but less effective than diclofenac sodium.

The prevalence of dental caries in Indonesia is still high with a DMF-T value of 4.6 (Riskesdas, 2013). One of the causes of caries is plaque on tooth surface. Plaque that attached to the teeth provides nutrients for bacteria to grow, causes bacterial colonization, and provides an acidic atmosphere that will come in contact with the tooth surface, causing the enamel to dissolve and cause caries. Efforts to overcome this include through the use of mouthwash containing Chlorhexidine. Numerous studies have shown that Chlorhexidine has bactericidal and bacteriostatic effects. One of the pharmaceutical companies introduced Chlorhexidine products by adding Degluconate (DG) to increase its effectiveness. This study aims to examine the effects of Chlorhexidine-DG on dental hygiene. The research conducted was quasi experiment research. The population in this study were employees of Medan Health Polytechnic of Ministry of Health, with  study sample of 100 people, divided into 2 groups, one group was given Chlorhexidine-DG, the other group was given mineral water as mouthwash. Data were analyzed univariately and bivariately using SPSS. The results of the bivariate analysis with  Wilcoxon-Test, it was found significant difference in changes in the number of dental hygiene indexes (Plaque indexes) for the two groups. Chlorhexidine-DG and mineral water are equally effective against the dental hygiene index. But when compared between  two Chlorhexidine-DG is more effective in affecting dental hygiene index than mineral water.
