A coplanar stripline (CPS) to microstrip line transition (MSL) are designed with high characteristics, such as wide band, low return loss and high insertion loss. Two types of tapers are proposed, exponential and triangular to decreases of discontinuity in the power flow in transmission line. The suggested design achieved reflection coefficient under -10 dB over wide band from 1 GHz to 3 GHz and insertion losses of less than 1 dB.

Aim:: Computation of loss factors for one-bit RF MEMS switch over Ku, K and Ka-band for two different insulating substrates. Objective:: Numerical investigation of return loss, insertion loss, isolation loss are computed under both actuated and unactuated states for two different insulating substrates of the 1-bit RF MEMS switch, and corresponding up and down-capacitances are obtained. Methods:: The unique characteristics of a 1-bit RF MEMS switch of providing higher return loss under both actuated and unactuated states and also of isolation loss with negligible insertion loss makes it as a prime candidate for phase shifter application. This is presented in this manuscript with a keen focus on improvement capability by changing transmission line width, and also of overlap area; where dielectric constant of the substrate also plays a vital role. Results:: The present work exhibits very low down-capacitance over the spectrum whereas considerable amount of up-capacitance. Also when overall performance in terms of all loss parameters are considered, switch provides very low insertion loss, good return loss under actuated state and standard isolation loss. Conclusion:: Reduction of transmission line width of about 33% improved the performance of the switch by increasing isolation loss. Isolation loss of -40 dB is obtained at actuated condition in higher microwave spectra for SiO 2 at higher overlap area. Down capacitance of ~ 1dB is obtained which is novel as compared with other published literature. Moreover, a better combination of both return loss, isolation loss and insertion loss are reported in this present work compared with all other published data so far.

A novel design of planar dual-band microstrip crossover operating at small and large frequency ratios is presented. These features of the proposed dual-band crossover are achieved by a cross-shaped transmission line. To obtain the dual-band characteristics, the required closed form design formulas are computed using the ABCD matrix method. Based on the design formulas, the realizable small and large band ratios are calculated as 1.65–2.14 and 4.1–8.76, respectively. To validate the computed band ratios, three examples of dual-band crossovers are presented. Finally, two prototypes of dual-band crossover working at smaller and larger frequency ratios are fabricated and tested. The fabricated dual-band crossovers exhibit good return loss and isolation of over 20 dB with minimal insertion loss.

A new compact design of diplexer with high electrical performances is proposed for base station antennas operating within frequency bands 2.3–2.4/2.49–2.69 GHz. The diplexer consists of two interdigital band-pass filters and coaxial power divider. Proposed design has high potential from view poin of implementation of wide-band as well as medium and narrow bands filters. The fabricated diplexer shows the following measured characteristics: reflection coefficient is -18 dB within passbands, insertion loss is -0.28 dB, isolation of ports is -30 dB. Diplexer has the relatively simple easy to manufacture design and compact dimensions, so it may be directly integrated into the base station antennas.

AbstractA four-way suspended-stripline power divider is presented in this letter. The power dividing network is designed by using the suspended stripline, while the isolation network is designed by using the microstrip line. The vias are used to connect the power dividing network and the isolation network. The even- and odd-mode analysis method is applied to design the presented power divider. The simulated and measured results of the presented power divider show reasonable agreement with each other. The measured input return loss in the band is greater than 28 dB (7.92 to 9.53 GHz), while the measured insertion loss is less than 0.37 dB. The measured output return loss is greater than 20 dB from 7.82 to 9.86 GHz. Besides, the measured output isolation is greater than 20 dB.

In this paper, a compact 8 way microstrip line Wilkinson Power Divider (WPD) is designed and proposed. The equal power divider con-sists of multiple multi-section WPD’s with isolation resistors. By utilizing the multi-sections concept, a remarkably increase in the band-width is observed. In the design process, RT 5880 substrate is used with the thickness of 0.8 mm and dielectric constant of 2.2 and loss tangent of 0.0004. The simulated results such as return loss, insertion loss and isolation are plotted by using ADS simulation software and obtained results show good agreement.

Abstract In this paper, a novel triple-band dipole antenna is presented. The proposed antenna has a very simple structure and is easily designed. The idea of the antenna is based on the traditional wideband bow-tie dipole antenna. Via etching slots on the bow-tie patch, three bent dipoles with different lengths which correspond to different operating frequencies are formed. Hence, the triple-band antenna is generated. Each operating frequency band realizes wideband and can be adjusted almost independently. And the antenna is fed by a 50 Ω microstrip line and a wideband microtrip-to-coplanar-stripline (CPS) transition as a balun. The good performances of the proposed antenna are achieved by a mass of simulations and measurements. The measured results have a good agreement with the simulated ones. The results show that the proposed antenna obtains three bandwidths at 2.38~2.65 GHz (10.7 %), 3.17~4.08 GHz (25.1 %), and 4.75~6.00 GHz (23.2 %) with the reflection coefficient less than −10 dB. In addition, the stable gain and quasi-omnidirectional radiation patterns are obtained in the operating frequency bands. Therefore, the proposed antenna is suitable for WLAN/WiMAX/LTE applications.

An ultra-wide band planar monopole antenna is presented in this paper. This antenna uses a pentagonal patch as radiation unit and is fed by a microstrip line. The relevant simulation is performed by using Ansoft HFSS. The return loss curve and the radiation patterns of this new antenna are given. And the effect of the size of the various parts of the antenna on the reflection loss is analyzed. Experimental results show that the proposed antenna provides an ultra-wide bandwidth (1.70~12.90 GHz) for return loss less than -10dB (VSWR<2). It is suitable for current ultra-wide band communication systems.

This work presents a miniaturized X-Ku band Wilkinson power divider (WPD), based on 0.18μm 1P6M CMOS foundry technology. The proposed two-dimensional transmission line, called a complementary-conducting-strip (CCS), replaces the conventional microstrip (MS) line structure. With this CCS structure, the occupying area of this novel divider is about 96 % smaller than that of the conventional MS WPD. The prototype occupies an area of only 345 μm by 360 μm without input/output (I/O) pads. The new WPD has an insertion loss of 4.9 dB, an isolation of 13 dB and a return loss 12 dB between 8 GHz and 18 GHz.

An ultra-wideband (UWB) highly compact bandpass filter with extremely high passband bandwidth is presented. The proposed structure is made using three-staged stepped-impedance lines and a composite right/left-handed transmission line (CRLH-TL) synthesized with meander fractal like ring slot in the ground and series capacitive gap in conductor strip. The capacitive gap in conductor strip and meander fractal like ring slot in the ground plane play major role for controlling the lower and higher cut-off frequencies. The equivalent circuit model of proposed filter is demonstrated and lumped parameters are extracted. A prototype is fabricated to experimentally validate the performance of proposed filter. The proposed UWB filter has extremely wide −10 dB return loss passband bandwidth from 3.14 to 18.26 GHz with relative bandwidth of 142% and insertion loss better than 0.5 dB. Also it achieves a wide upper-stopband from 19.7 to 24.4 GHz with insertion loss better than 13.0 dB, return loss <1.5 dB and sharpened rejection skirts outside the passband at both lower and upper frequency ends. Good agreement is found between simulated and measured results with measured group delay variation in the passband <0.65 ns.
