By means of the proposed technologies, the relationship and strengthening of the optimal modes of recovery of the restoring layer and the optimal laser treatment modes with bat-retaining straps are chosen. The microstructural, X-ray diffraction studies of the restored surfaces of the cams of the distributing shaft of the car were determined, the wear resistance and microhardness of the working surfaces were determined. By means of the proposed technologies of restoration and strengthening, optimum modes of applying the restoring layer and optimal modes of laser treatment (pumping energy of 20 kJ without melting of the surface) with bat-retaining coatings (thickness 2 mm) were chosen. The unevenness of the pulsed laser treatment with the restriction of the diameter of the laser spot and the treatment of a boron-rich surface layer with overlapping of the corresponding zones leads not only to the quenching but also to the release of individual local microparticles. New phases such as boron carbide, carbides - borides, iron borides, and others are formed. The strengthened surface layer has a complex structure and generally contains a martensite base with thin layers of borides, сarbides. The microhardness of the processing zone rises 3-4 times (Нμ 6500-7000 MPa).

In this paper we have obtained CdCrTe thin layers by PLD method using the YAG:Nd3+ laser with pulse length 250μs. Synthesized CdCrTe solid solution with 50% at. of Cr has been taken as a target. The layers were deposited on KCl substrate. The target and films were analyzed using X-ray diffraction, TEM microscope and THEED electron diffraction. The morphology of the layers are homogenous. However, we have detected several crystallographic phases: cubic CdTe, hexagonal Cr and hexagonal Te. From the measurements of lattice constant of the layer, their composition was determined to be x=0,14

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to investigate the mechanical and wear properties of Y-TZP/Al2O3 nanocomposites. Design/methodology/approach – In this paper, the Y-TZP/Al2O3 nanocomposites with different crystal-sizes are designed and fabricated by hot pressing. Their mechanical and anti-wear properties are investigated, and the wear mechanism is studied by scanning electron microscopy, X-ray diffraction, and transmission electron microscope and so on. Findings – The experimental results indicate that the wear of Y-TZP/Al2O3 nanocomposites can be divided into two regimes: mild wear regime and normal wear regime. In mild wear regimes, the relationship between wear resistance (ɛ) and hardness (H) of the material can be described as: ɛ−1∝H−1. The corresponding relationship among wear resistance, hardness and toughness (KIC) of the material in normal wear regime can be described as: ɛ−1∝H−1K IC −4. Originality/value – In this paper, the mechanical and anti-wear properties of Y-TZP/Al2O3 nanocomposites are systematically investigated. The relation between mechanical properties and wear resistance is revealed.

Thick Cu−Sn alloy layers were produced in an [EMIM]Cl ionic-liquid solution from CuCl2 and SnCl2 in different ratios. All work, including the electrodeposition, took place outside the glovebox with a continuous argon stream over the electrolyte at 95 °C. The layer composition and layer thickness can be adjusted by the variation of the metal-salts content in the electrolyte. A layer with a thickness of up to 15 µm and a copper content of up to ωCu = 0.86 was obtained. The phase composition was characterized by scanning electron microscopy (SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and X-ray fluorescence (XRF). Furthermore, it was found that the relationship between the alloy composition and the concentration of the ions in the electrolyte is described as an irregular alloy system as according to Brenner. Brenner described such systems only for aqueous electrolytes containing complexing agents such as cyanide. In this work, it was confirmed that irregular alloy depositions also occur in [EMIM]Cl.

ABSTRACTA PbTiO3(001) film grown on MgO(001) by pulsed laser deposition is examined as an example to demonstrate the applications of the domain stability map for epitaxial perovskite films which shows regions of stable domains and fractions of domains in a polydomain structure. X-ray diffraction studies indicate that the film has a …c/a/c/a… domain structure in a temperature range of °C to 400°C with the fraction of c-domains decreasing with increasing temperature. These experimental results are in excellent agreement with theoretical predictions based on the stability map.

Incorporation of metallic elements, titanium and copper, into carbonaceous mesophase (CM) was performed through mechanical alloying in a ball mill apparatus. The structures of the raw CM as well as the Ti/Cu-added CM were characterized by X-ray diffraction. The tribological behavior of the Ti/Cu-added CM used as lubricating additives was investigated by using a high temperature friction and wear tester. The results show that, compared with the raw CM, the Ti/Cu-added CM exhibits a drop in the crystallinity and a transition to the amorphous. The Ti/Cu-added CM used as lubricating additive displays an obvious high temperature anti-friction and wear resistance effect, and the lager the applied load, the lower the friction coefficient and the wear severity.

Orthorhombic HoMnO3 films were prepared epitaxially on Nb-doped SrTiO3 single crystal substrates by using pulsed laser deposition technique. The films showed perfectly a-axis crystallographic orientations. X-ray diffraction and atomic force microscopy were used to characterize the films. The complex dielectric properties were measured as functions of frequency (40 Hz~1 MHz) and temperature (80 K~300 K) with a signal amplitude of 50 mv. The respective dielectric relaxation peaks shifted to higher frequency as the measuring temperature increased, with the same development of real part of the complex permittivity. The cole-cole diagram was obtained according to the Debye model, and the effects of relaxation process were discussed.

Wear-resistant Cu-based solid-solution-toughened Cr5Si3/CrSi metal silicide alloy with a microstructure consisting of predominantly the dual-phase primary dendrites with a Cr5Si3 core encapsulated by CrSi phase and a small amount of interdendritic Cu-based solid solution (Cuss) was designed and fabricated by the laser melting process using Cr–Si–Cu elemental powder blends as the precursor materials. The microstructure of the Cuss-toughened Cr5Si3/CrSi metal silicide alloy was characterized by optical microscopy, powder x-ray diffraction, and energy dispersive spectroscopy. The Cuss-toughened silicide alloys have excellent wear resistance and low coefficient of friction under room temperature dry sliding wear test conditions with hardened 0.45% C carbon steel as the sliding–mating counterpart.

The crystal structures of the salicylideneaniline derivatives N-salicylidene-4-tert-butyl-aniline (1), N-3,5-di-tert-butyl-salicylidene-3-methoxyaniline (2), N-3,5-di-tert-butyl-salicylidene-3-bromoaniline (3), N-3,5-di-tert-butyl-salicylidene-3-chloroaniline (4), N-3,5-di-tert-butyl-salicylidene-4-bromoaniline (5), N-3,5-di-tert-butyl-salicylidene-aniline (6), N-3,5-di-tert-butyl-salicylidene-4-carboxyaniline (7) and N-salicylidene-2-chloroaniline (8) were analyzed by X-ray diffraction analysis at ambient temperature to investigate the relationship between their photochromic properties and molecular structures. A clear correlation between photochromism and the dihedral angle of the two benzene rings in the salicylideneaniline derivatives was observed. Crystals with dihedral angles less than 20° were non-photochromic, whereas those with dihedral angles greater than 30° were photochromic. Crystals with dihedral angles between 20 and 30° could be either photochromic or non-photochromic. Inhibition of the pedal motion by intra- or intermolecular steric hindrance, however, can result in non-photochromic behaviour even if the dihedral angle is larger than 30°.

AbstractThe volumes of a disordered An20 (Qod = 0.15), a disordered An78 (Qod = 0.55) and an ordered An78 (Qod = 0.81) were determined up to 9.569(10) GPa, 8.693(5) GPa and 9.765(10) GPa, respectively, using single-crystal X-ray diffraction. The volume variations with pressure for these samples are described with 4th-order Birch Murnaghan equations of state with V0 = 669.88(7) Å3, K0 = 59.7(7) GPa. K′ = 5.7(5), K″ = −0.8(2) GPa−1 for disordered An20, V0 = 1340.48(10) Å3, K0 = 77.6(5) GPa, K0′ = 4.0(3), K″ = -0.59(9) GPa−1 for disordered An78 and V0 = 1339.62(6) A3, K0 = 77.4(6) GPa, K′ = 4.2(4), and K″ = −0.7(1) GPa−1 for ordered An78. Along with data from previous studies (An0 ordered, An0 disordered and An2o ordered), the volumes for the disordered samples were found to be up to ∼0.3% larger than the ordered samples of the same composition. The disordered samples are softer than the ordered samples of the same composition by 4(1)% for An0, 2.5(9)% for An20 and essentially zero for An78. The relationship between volume increase, density decrease, and decreasing bulk modulus with increasing disorder is in accordance with Birch's Law.

AbstractWe have studied the Pulsed-Laser Melting (PLM) effects on Ti implanted GaP to form an Intermediate Band (IB). Structural analysis has been carried out by means of Time of Flight Secondary Ion Mass Spectroscopy (ToF-SIMS), Raman spectroscopy and Glancing Incidence X-Ray Diffraction (GIXRD). After the PLM annealing, Ti concentration is over the Mott limit. Nevertheless, the Raman spectra show a forbidden TO vibrational mode of GaP. This result suggests the formation of crystalline domains with a different orientation in the annealed region regarding to the GaP unannealed substrate. This conclusion has been corroborated by GIXRD measurements. As a result of the polycrystalline lattice, a drop of the mobility is produced.
