Mass media campaigns can be effective at communicating health information to a mass audience rather inexpensively. Critics of mass media health campaigns often contend, however, that interpersonal communication is more effective at changing behavior. Conversely, interpersonal communication activities to promote health can be effective at changing behavior, but critics have argued that they have certain limitations such as being expensive and personal (perhaps intrusive), and that they provide nonstandardized information. The present study is an evaluation of a street theater format in Perú that combined the advantages of mass and interpersonal communication to improve family planning knowledge and attitudes. The street theater was effective in decreasing misinformation concerning modern contraceptive methods.

The objectives of this study are five-fold. First, to examine evidence of changes which may have occurred among Pakistani women in their knowledge of, attitude towards and practice of family planning up to 1968-69 after eight to nine years of experience with Government-supported programmes aimed at reducing fertility; second, to examine in considerable detail differentials among women in their knowledge of, attitude towards and practice of family planning; third, to analyze the effects of knowledge and attitudes on behavioural change—i.e. practice of family planning ; fourth, to examine possible programme and policy implications of findings from this study; and fifth, to identify areas of future research and analysis which would appear needed.1 The study could provide further insight! into effectiveness of the Family Planning Programme (now renamed as the Population Planning Programme) during a major part of the Third Five-Year Plan period, 1965-70.

This study attempts to determine factors related to the knowledge and attitudes of family planning acceptors about uterine contraception in utero against the use of uterine contraception in the Mijen health center in Semarang. This research is a quantitative research with non experimental research design, and classified in observational survey research conducted to explain the relationship and influence between independent variables and dependent variables. The sample of this study were 60 respondents using simple random sampling. Data analysis techniques with univariate analysis, bivariate analysis by cross tabulation before statistical tests were done by Chi square test and multivariate with logistic regression analysis. The results of the study showed that the respondents of high school education (43.3%), with private employment (56.7%), distribution of IUD use (65%), the level of knowledge about the IUD was sufficient (80%) and attitudes in the use of the IUD agreed (71.67%). The bivariate results showed that there was a relationship between maternal knowledge of family planning acceptors about IUD with IUD use and there was a relationship between the attitude of mother of family planning acceptors and the use of IUD. SummaryExamination of the effect of various socioeconomic, cultural and demographic characteristics of married women in Ilorin, Nigeria, who are in their prime childbearing ages, on their contraceptive knowledge and on their attitudes towards modern contraception shows that only the woman's education, age and area of residence within the city have significant independent effects on contraceptive knowledge. More than 90% of the women interviewed thought that women should be free to practise family planning. Also, more than 95% of all the women believed that too frequent births could endanger the health of the mother and her children. However, only the women with previous contraceptive knowledge overwhelmingly (more than 80%) thought that the best way to prevent too frequent births is by family planning. On the contrary, 66.5% of those without previous contraceptive knowledge before this study suggested that traditional abstinence should be used and only 28.9% suggested family planning. Adequate awareness of the availability and usefulness of family planning methods can influence attitudes of women towards contraception and may also enhance contraceptive use.
