The experience of Porto Alegre Citizen school is discussed in this study, being analyzed how this democratic participation based project has produced advances in the educational inclusion issue. The Citizen School project is discussed in the context of conquests and advances within the Brazilian legislation. Education is discussed as a right, which analyses the contradictions of the inclusion process limited by the excludent socioeconomical system. The assumptions and the pedagogical practises which produce the schooling failure are examined by presenting a critical view towards the merit conception-based evaluation. It is discussed the need of rethinking school centering the concerns with inclusion and educators training intended to gather the “different ones” and allow dialogues with the cultural contexts. The ongoing project at the Citizen School is being analyzed as an updated pedagogical practice reference. The data examined is referred to the Municipal net and indicates a rise in enrollments, in the different modalities of attending, in evasion reduction, in failing and shows a drastic decrease of illiteracy in the city. It also testifies a continuance of an integrating, cooperative, solidary, participative and democratic pedagogical practice commited to social inclusion.

The article discusses issues related to the impact on social inclusion, implemented as part of the activities of the day care center for children and youth. The article is a description of the assumptions of the inclusion process in the light of the theoretical assumptions and those arising from the author’s pedagogical practice. The article contains an outline of the inclusion areas and selected examples of projects incorporated as part of the activities of the day care center for active inclusion.

  Este artigo socializa ações do projeto de pesquisa e extensão intitulado POA Turismo Acessível, em parceria com a Universidade Federal do Rio Grande do Sul – UFRGS, Assistiva – Tecnologia e Educação, ISAAC Brasil e a Diretoria de Acessibilidade e Inclusão Social e Diretoria de Turismo de Porto Alegre, com objetivo de desenvolver projetos com emprego de Comunicação Aumentativa e Alternativa - CAA em materiais e em locais turísticos da cidade. A pesquisa qualitativa, com referencial metodológico no estudo de caso, apresenta aportes legais que respaldam a comunicação acessível, referenciais da CAA e do turismo acessível. Discutem-se premissas do Projeto e descrição do material gráfico produzido com implementação das ações em parques infantis de praças públicas da cidade. Os resultados revelaram abrangência do estudo, com evidências das ações desenvolvidas, apontando alternativas para elaboração e disseminação de placas com estratégias de CAA, ampliando discussões em prol do turismo mais acessível no Brasil.Palavras-chave: Acessibilidade. Comunicação Aumentativa e Alternativa.POA accessible tourism: augmentative and alternative communication in materials and tourist sites ABSTRACTThis article shares the actions of the research and extension project entitled POA Turismo Acessível, in partnership with the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul - UFRGS, Assistive - Technology e Educação, ISAAC Brazil and the Accessibility and Social Inclusion Directorate and the Tourism Directorate of Porto Alegre, with the objective of developing projects using Augmentative and Alternative Communication - CAA in materials and in tourist places in the city. Qualitative research, with a methodological framework in the case study, presents legal contributions that support accessible communication, CAA references and accessible tourism. Project premises and description of the graphic material produced with the implementation of actions in playgrounds in public squares in the city are discussed. The results revealed the scope of the study, with evidence of the actions developed, pointing out alternatives for the elaboration and dissemination of signs with CAA strategies, expanding discussions in favor of more accessible tourism in Brazil.Keywords: Accessibility. Resumo: O objetivo deste trabalho foi investigar em que medida as ONGs estão contribuindo para instaurar um regime de governança democrática, particularmente nas ações desenvolvidas por duas ONGs situadas na cidade de Porto Alegre/RS. Para tanto, no referencial teórico, discute, inicialmente, o conceito de democracia – na concepção habermasiana – e de governança – na visão de Kazancigil. Sendo assim, a pesquisa foi desenvolvida com os diversos atores que fazem parte do cotidiano das ONGs: membros da comunidade, funcionários e diretoria. A parte dos resultados e discussão foi dividida em três etapas. A primeira de apresentação das ONGs. E as duas últimas vinculadas aos dois pressupostos da governança democrática: a democracia local e a participação nas instâncias de decisões.Verificou, por fim, as possibilidades e dificuldades na ampla constatação da governança democrática na promoção da transparência pública e na inclusão social das ações das ONGs. To this end, the theoretical framework, it was necessary to discuss, first, the concept of democracy - in Habermasian conception – and of governance - in the vision of Kazancigil. Thus, the research was developed with the various actors who are part of everyday NGOs: community members, staff and board. The part of the results and discussion was divided into three steps. The first, a presentation of NGOs and the last two linked to two assumptions related to democratic governance: local democracy and participation in decision instances. Thus, it was determinated the possibilities and difficulties in broad statement of democratic governance in the promotion of public transparency and social inclusion of the actions of NGOs.Key words: Democratic governance, Third Sector, NGO’s.

La bohème is one of the most frequently performed operas in the world. But how did it come to be so adored? Drawing on an extremely broad range of sources, Alexandra Wilson traces the opera’s rise to global fame. Although the work has been subjected to many hostile critiques, it swiftly achieved popular success through stage performances, recordings, and filmed versions. Wilson demonstrates how La bohème acquired even greater cultural influence as its music and dramatic themes began to be incorporated into pop songs, film soundtracks, musicals, and more. In this cultural history of Puccini’s opera, Wilson offers a fresh reading of a familiar work. La bohème was strikingly modern for the 1890s, she argues, in its approach to musical and dramatic realism and in flouting many of the conventions of the Italian operatic tradition. Considering the work within the context of the aesthetic, social, and political debates of its time, Wilson explores Puccini’s treatment of themes including gender, poverty, and nostalgia. She pays particular attention to La bohème’s representation of Paris, arguing that the opera was not only influenced by romantic mythologies surrounding the city but also helped shape them. Wilson concludes with a consideration of the many and varied approaches directors have taken to the staging of Puccini’s opera, including some that have reinvented the opera for a new age. This book is essential reading for anyone who has seen La bohème and wants to know more about its music, drama, and cultural contexts.

Este artigo propõe-se a ser uma colaboração com os estudos dedicados às irmandades religiosas brasileiras, na sua face regional. A linha de pensamento adotada toma a cidade, a experiência urbana e as ditas associações religiosas como instâncias sociais intimamente relacionadas e interdependentes. Durante o século XIX, a irmandade gestora da Santa Casa de Misericórdia em Porto Alegre cumpria um papel fundamental não apenas para a composição material de seu espaço, mas igualmente para conferir-lhe o status de importante cidade dentro do mosaico urbano que compunha o Império brasileiro. Tomando por base o histórico de ações concretas da irmandade, como a construção do Hospital, as iniciativas para a caridade e filantropia e a promoção das festas litúrgicas, este artigo analisa o vínculo indissociável entre o associativismo católico e o estilo de vida urbano dos setecentos e oitocentos. Cultura Urbana.AbstractThis paper intends to collaborate with other works dedicated to the study of brazilian religious brotherhoods, in their regional aspect. The line of thought  adopted takes the city, the urban experience and the religious associations above mentioned as closely related and interdependent social instances. During the XIX century, the brotherhood in charge of the Holy House of Mercy in the city of Porto Alegre played a fundamental role, not just in the material composition of the urban space, but also in giving it the status of an important city within the urban mosaic comprised by the Brazilian Empire. Based on the (historic of) concrete actions of this brotherhood, as were the construction of the Hospital, the creation of a social representation for the notion of charity, and the promotion of liturgic feasts, this article analyses the unbreakable bond between catholic associativism and the urban lifestyle of the XVIII and XIX centuries.Keywords: Religious Brotherhoods. O presente artigo é resultado de um diálogo entre três experiências de produção coletiva de pesquisa etnográfica, que têm em comum os temas juventude, imagem e cidade. Um conjunto de nove etnografias visuais foi realizado a partir de uma parceria entre os pesquisadores associados ao Núcleo de Antropologia Visual (NAVISUAL/PPGAS/UFRGS) e os estudantes da disciplina de Antropologia Visual (2016/1) ministrada ao curso de Ciências Sociais da UFRGS sob a coordenação da antropóloga e professora Cornelia Eckert. As reflexões que aqui apresentamos percorrem um processo de ensino-aprendizagem implicado na experiência dos três autores enquanto estagiários docentes nesta disciplina. A proposta lançada consistiu em um exercício etnográfico a ser desenvolvido ao longo do semestre letivo, tendo como eixo temático as “intervenções artísticas urbanas”, no qual os discentes trabalhariam coletivamente no formato de grupos de trabalho, sob a orientação dos estagiários e pesquisadores do Navisual. Como desdobramento de tais experiências, foi produzida uma expografia compartilhada em parceria com o Departamento de Difusão Cultural (DDC/UFRGS) e o projeto UNIFOTO, que ficou exposta na galeria do Hall da Reitoria da UFRGS entre os meses de agosto e setembro de 2016. Destacamos neste trabalho o diálogo e convergências entre três abordagens que percorrem universos empíricos específicos na cidade de Porto Alegre - as Batalhas de MCs, os itinerários e trajetórias de jovens praticantes de skate, e o evento Feira do Hip Hop - propondo uma abordagem imagética em torno do tema das “intervenções artísticas urbanas”, tendo em vista compreender as formas sensíveis através das quais estes sujeitos experienciam, praticam e transformam o viver urbano.Palavras Chaves: Cidade; Imagem; Juventude; Antropologia Visual; Formas Sensíveis.Youth, Image and city: experiences of ethnographic research with urban youngs in Porto AlegreAbstract  This paper is a result of a dialogue between three experiences of collective ethnographic work which have in common the categories of image, youth and city. A group of nine visual ethnographies was carried departed of a partnership of researchers associated with the “Núcleo de Antropologia Visual (NAVISUAL/PPGAS/UFRGS) and the students of the course of Visual Anthropology assign in Social Science under the coordination of Cornelia Eckert. The reflection that we present here go through a process of learning and teaching, based on the experience of the three autors. The proposal launched consisted in a etnographic exercise to be developped alonge the semester, under the bow of a tematic pivot: "urban artistic intervention".As a result of these experiences, a shared exhibition was produced in partnership with the Department of Cultural Diffusion (DDC / UFRGS) and the UNIFOTO project, which was exhibited in the gallery of the Rectory Hall of UFRGS between August and September 2016. We highlight in this work the dialogue and convergences between three approaches that explore specific empirical universes in the city of Porto Alegre - the MCs Battles, the itineraries and trajectories of young skateboarders, and the Hip Hop Fair - proposing an imaging approach around (Sansot, 1983, Ledrut, 1984; Rocha, 1995) through which these subjects experience, practice and transform urban living.Key words: City. The process of school inclusion for people with disabilities is a recent development, especially for the deaf individuals, so the study of how this inclusion process occurs and the teaching of Sciences/Biology for these individuals is still incipient. The objective of this work was to investigate how science/biology teaching takes place for deaf students in the city of Cornélio Procópio-PR and what difficulties are encountered by the students, teachers, and sign language interpreters in the scenario of school inclusion. To reach this goal, we interviewed teachers and interpreters who work in elementary and middle schools of the public network that attend deaf students in Cornélio Procópio. The results of the interviews demonstrated that all those involved in this process face difficulties, the interpreters indicate language as an obstacle to the interpretation of Sciences and Biology classes, since Brazilian Sign Language presents a deficit of lexicons in relation to the Portuguese Language. On the other hand, the main difficulty for the teachers is the lack of preparation to work in classes which include deaf people, jeopardizing not only their interaction with the students, but also the teaching of Sciences and Biology.

O texto compreende uma discussão sobre o processo de modernização na cidade de Porto Alegre em vários momentos de sua história, articulando as transformações e modificações havidas no espaço urbano com uma paralela segregação social operada e/ou desejada na cidade. São recolhidos vários exemplos para demonstrar a vontade de se construir uma “cidade una”, na qual não se admite o convívio com os indesejados sociais. A combinação modernização/exclusão social, tantas vezes já abordada em diversos estudos da historiografia brasileira, encontra neste artigo mais um exercício de aproximação, a partir do qual pode-se vislumbrar momentos distintos – sem traçar uma linha de continuidade – desta operação específica da modernidade. Abstract The text discusses the process of modernization in the city of Porto Alegre during various moments of its history, debating both transformations and modifications in the city’s urban space along with a social segregation that was either going on or being wished for at that time. Many exemples are given so as to demonstrate the desire to build a “united city” in which those who were socially unwished were not allowed. The combination of modernization with social exclusion, so often discussed in many other studies of Brazilian history, is shown in this article as another approach to the issue of modernization with its distinct moments. In 2018, the City of Toronto’s municipal election overlapped with a provincial election that brought a new government to office. While the municipal election ran for a protracted period from May 1 to October 22, the provincial election began on May 9 and ended about four weeks later, on June 7.1 On July 27, after only a few weeks in office, the provincial government tabled the Better Local Government Act (BLGA) and proclaimed the Bill into law on August 14.2 The BLGA reduced Toronto City Council from 47 to 25 wards and reset the electoral process, mandating that the election proceed under a different concept of representation for City Council.3
