The idea of the “flipped classroom” has become increasingly popular in education. However, very little research in how “flipped classrooms” impact high school students’ ability to perform on exams has been done. The purpose of this research is to add to the body of knowledge and help provide data to investigate how well students learn physics content by using the flipped classroom in a high school Physics with Technology class. Seven periods of Physics with Technology at Lone Peak High School in Highland, UT were used in this study. Three of the classes were randomly assigned to be “flipped” while the other four were taught using what is considered a “traditional” method of instruction of physics (guided inquiry). The pacing and content was matched each day and all classes participated in the same labs, homework, quizzes and tests. The defining difference is the method which the content was covered. The flipped classes watched video lectures at home to learn the majority of the content, then did what is traditionally known as “homework” in class with the teacher present to help. In this study, it was found that there was no statistically or practically significant difference in mean test scores for the first three units. Student responses on a survey also showed very little statistical difference in the students’ attitudes towards the classroom environment in either instructional method.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to explore the impact of a financial literacy program (FLP) recently implemented in Jordanian junior high and high schools as part of a national financial literacy agenda on students’ attitudes toward entrepreneurship relative to a control sample of students who had not yet participated in the FLP. This paper also examines the role of moderating variables, including students’ perception of teachers’ attitudes (TA) on students’ entrepreneurial attitudes. Design/methodology/approach Survey methodology was used to obtain data and hierarchical regression analysis was used to test hypotheses. Findings Results indicate that students who completed the FLP exhibited significantly higher entrepreneurial awareness than those that had not yet participated in the program. Students who took the entrepreneurship module of the FLP exhibited significantly lower entrepreneurial intention than those that had not yet taken the entrepreneurship module. However, TA did not impact students’ attitudes. Research limitations/implications The study examines a sample of middle and high school students in only one district in Amman, Jordan, and cannot be generalized to other communities where the FLP has been implemented. Practical implications The findings provide valuable insights for educators, policymakers and non-governmental organizations considering large scale, publicly funded FLPs as part of the K-12 educational system. Social implications Stakeholders should consider reforms to the implementation of entrepreneurship education as part of the FLP in Jordanian schools and other developing country K-12 programs. Originality/value This study is the first to examine the new Jordanian literacy program and the impact it has on attitudes toward entrepreneurship of middle and high school students.

Mathematical literacy and self-efficacy of students in terms of differences in zoning system policies.AbstractThis study aimed to (1) describe the mathematical literacy abilities and self-efficacy of eleventh-grade senior high school students; (2) describe the impact of differences in zoning system policies on the mathematical literacy and self-efficacy of eleventh-grade senior high school students; and (3) describe the relationship between mathematical literacy and self-efficacy of eleventh-grade senior high school students. This survey involved 346 students from Banjarmasin City and 321 students from Palangka Raya City, Indonesia. The two cities have different zoning policies. The data was collected through tests and questionnaires that met the valid and reliable criteria. The data analysis technique used was descriptive and inferential statistics. The results showed that students’ mathematical literacy in Banjarmasin and Palangka Raya City was in a low category, while self-efficacy in both cities was in the medium category. There was no significant difference in the mean of mathematical literacy of students in Banjarmasin and Palangka Raya City. However, there was a significant difference in the mean of self-efficacy of students in Banjarmasin and Palangka Raya City. The zoning policy in Palangka Raya City causes differences in the mean of mathematical literacy of students in high, moderate, and low category schools. In contrast, the zoning policy in Banjarmasin City causes differences in the mean of self-efficacy of students in high, medium, and low category schools. Lastly, there was a significant positive correlation (although weak) between mathematical literacy and self-efficacy of eleventh-grade senior high school students in Banjarmasin and Palangka Raya City (r = 0.194).

In this study, it is aimed to analyze attitudes of obese students in high school towards physical education according to some variables. 74 secondary education student, 45 of them are girls and 29 boys who studied at three different Anatolian High Schools in the city of Niğde in the 2016-2017 academic year, have been participated in this study. As data collection tool, Physical Education attitude scale for secondary education students developed by Güllü and Güçlü (2009) has been used and coefficient of consistence (Cronbach Alpha) is 0,94. SPSS 23.0 packaged software has been used for assesing the result. Kolmogorov – Smirnov Test have been done regarding whether the data showed normal distribution or not and Kurtosis and Skewness values have been studied. Independent Sample T Test has been used to test the mean difference significance belonging to two group independent variables in the study. One Way ANOVA Test has been used to test the mean differences significence when the number of groups is more than two. At the end of the study, all of the attitude scores belonging to variables have been found high and it has been established that obese high school students’ attitudes towards Physical Education show statictically significant difference, according to gender, in favor of boys (p<0,05). Accordingly, it has been determined that students’ cognitive attitudes acording to obesity level for Physical Education show difference in favor of second grade obese students (p<0,05) and no significent difference found in students’ affective and behavioural attitudes (p>0,05). It has been identified that high school students’ attitudes towards Physical Education show no statistically significant difference according to their calass level variable and time variable which they spent with their communication instruments (p>0,05) As a result, when considering obese students’ positive attitudes towards physical education and sports, in view of obtained findings, it is possible to say that physical education and sports may contribute to increase the participation of obese students and thus make them become healthy individuals.Extended English summary is in the end of Full Text PDF (TURKISH) file. ÖzetBu araştırmada, lise düzeyinde öğrenim gören obez öğrencilerin beden eğitimi dersine yönelik tutumlarının bazı değişkenlere göre incelenmesi amaçlanmıştır. Our study investigated the difference in achievement between two groups of high school students – those who took shorter tests more frequently, and those who took longer tests less frequently. Both tests types tested listening, reading and writing skills. Th e results showed no statistically significant difference between the two groups, and the participants’ preferences as to the length and frequency of tests indicated a difference of only just above fi ve percentage points in favour of shorter and more frequent tests. Teachers should thus examine their students’ attitudes and motivation, adapt their revision lessons and teaching material accordingly, and construct the most appropriate instrument for testing their students’ achievement.

Purpose: The purpose of this study is to determine the impact of an Inquiry-based Flipped classroom model on the conceptual understanding and science process skills of junior high school students in the Philippines. Method: A two-group pretest/post-test design was conducted on 55 Grade 9 students for the study. One group received instruction using the flipped classroom format while the other group serving as control was taught in the conventional format. A Conceptual Understanding Test (CUT) and a Science Process Skills Test (SPST) were used to measure the impact of instruction on the two groups. Independent samples t-test was used to determine if there was a significant difference between the groups while paired samples t-test was conducted on both groups to determine if the groups improved significantly after a 7-week intervention. Linear regression was performed to determine if science process skills was a positive predictor of conceptual understanding. Findings: Inquiry-based flipped classroom did not make students perform better than the non-flipped inquiry-based learning environment in the Conceptual Understanding Test (CUT) and Science Process Skills Test (SPST) except on one biology topic (non-Mendelian Genetics) where the Flipped Inquiry Group scored significantly higher than the control in the CUT. Students’ science process skills positively predicted their conceptual understanding in biology. Significance: Inquiry–based flipped classroom can be as effective as the non-flipped inquiry-based instruction in improving students’ conceptual understanding and science process skills but can be made even more effective depending on the content, the manner the content is uploaded and the choice of LMS for uploading the online content. The study also showed the importance of science process skills in enhancing students’ conceptual understanding in biology.

Mathematics is important and applies to science, technology, society or the natural sciences. It is applied directly or indirectly. Most students find this to be a very stimulating, complex, and well-understood subject. Maths in high school is extremely important. The study was designed to investigate the impact of students' mathematical representation skills and their attitudes towards GeoGebra. This study was quasi-experimental and carried out on high school students. We have two groups belonging to the same standard class. The control group consisted of 22 students, while the experimental group consisted of 28 participants. The conventional approach was used to teach certain concepts of plane geometry to the students in the control group. On the other hand, the experimental group taught similar teachings using GeoGebra. The results show that students have more skills in mathematical representation using GeoGebra. The semi-empirical test also showed a significant change in students' attitudes between the pre-test and the post-test. Students are more active in mathematical representation skills in GeoGebra.

Article visualizations:
