Abstract Elaborated shapes of many car components are the reason for which the use of casting techniques to fabricate them is a solution well founded from the economical point of view. Currently applicable regulatory requirements concerning emissions of exhaust fumes force the carmakers to reduce the overall weight of their products, as this is a basic precondition for reducing fuel consumption. As a result, newly launched car models contain a continuously increasing share of thin-walled castings made of materials which ensure a satisfactory level of service properties. At the same time, developing new technological processes allowing to extend the service life of individual components by means of surface improving becomes more and more important.

The automotive industry was always characterized by innovation and the use of cutting edge technology. Daily we can see vehicles packed with technological advancements. The main focus of the current technological trend is electric drives. With the rise in popularity of electric cars more types of vehicles are adapting electric drives. In the case of airplanes the standards are higher than in the case of cars so the emphasis of research and innovation is greater. This paper presents a list of the challenges electric aircrafts face and their potential solutions. Currently many of these problems currently only have partial solutions if any. There is also a comparison between the properties of materials used and the expectations for hybrid aircraft. A comprehensive model was created taking into account the criteria set for hybrid and electric aircraft. With the aid of the model the effect of the most important components on efficiency can be assessed.

Abstract The automotive industry uses a variety of technologies and construction materials in production process. Knowledge of the characteristics of tribological material pairs cooperating with each other is useful for their selection from the safety point of view sliding pairs, in means of transport, and other machines. The aim of the contribution is the analysis of the characteristics of tribological ball-on-disc wear of polymeric materials used as sliding bearings. Tribological tests were carried out under dry friction for a polymer–metal pair of three types of materials. Among all three groups of the tested materials statistically significant differences (p < 0.05 in Student’s t-test) in wear were observed. The wear rate and friction coefficient of the sample were tested, and the signs of wear were submitted to SEM observations.

The use of a particular material in the automotive industry is determined by its properties in the aspect of safety and the effects on the natural environment starting from production to its liquidation. We are constantly striving to reduce the costs of materials used while increasing the strength properties and the production of non-natural materials, e.g. composites. Among the modern materials appearing in the production of cars, a growing share of high-strength steels, plastics as well as light alloys based on aluminum and magnesium is observed. This article presents selected materials and technologies used in the automotive industry from the point of view of their impact on safety and environmental protection.


The article is devoted to reengineering of technological processes - a method of their qualitative transformation on an innovative basis, which in turn assumes the availability of tools that make it possible to establish the economic efficiency and technical capability of such transformations of construction production, to identify the effect of their implementation. In this regard, the problem of forming a parametric model of reengineering of construction technological processes, which involves four enlarged groups of indicators that reflect the quantitative and qualitative characteristics of the processes: materials used, working time, machine time, spatial organization, is considered. It is established that parameters can have either an absolute (physical, cost) or relative (point, percentage) expression and also make their own decomposition. The practical significance of the provisions given in the article is determined by the development of methods of technical rationing, which leads to a reduction in the cost and duration of construction.

Efficient sustainability management requires the use of tools which allow material, technological and construction variants to be quantified, measured or compared. These tools can be used as a powerful marketing aid and as support for the transition to “circular economy”. Life Cycle Assessment (LCA) procedures are also used, aside from other approaches. LCA is a method that evaluates the life cycle of a structure from the point of view of its impact on the environment. Consideration is given also to energy and raw material costs, as well as to environmental impact throughout the life cycle - e.g. due to emissions. The paper focuses on the quantification of sustainability connected with the use of various types of concrete with regard to their resistance to degradation. Sustainability coefficients are determined using information regarding service life and "eco-costs". The aim is to propose a suitable methodology which can simplify decision-making in the design and choice of concrete mixes from a wider perspective, i.e. not only with regard to load-bearing capacity or durability.

ABSTRACTOne important approach to increasing High magnetic fields (HMF) beyond what is now possible is to improve the properties of various composite materials used as both conductors and structural support. Typical conductors for high field magnets are Cu-based metal-metal composites. To achieve high mechanical strength, these composites are fabricated by cold deformation, which introduces high densities of interfaces along with lattice distortions. During the operation of a magnet, mechanical load, high magnetic field, extreme temperatures and other stressors are imposed on the materials, causing them to be further “processed”. The composite conductors in a magnet, for example, may undergo high temperatures, which reduce lattice distortions or soften the material. At the same time, HMF may increase lattice distortion, leading to a complex change in interface characteristics. Both the mechanical properties of the conductors, like the tensile and yield strength, and the electric conductivity of the composites are closely connected to changes in lattice distortion and interface density. Understanding these changes helps us to assure that materials can operate in optimized conditions during most of magnets’ service life. Maximizing service life is critical, given the high cost of building and operating high field magnets. The goal of this paper is to 1) show our understanding of changes that occur in the properties of selected materials during the fabrication and under HMF and 2) to discuss how those changes relate to the microstructure of these materials and consequently to the service life of high field magnets.

A multidisciplinary research, currently in progress at the University of Salento in collaboration with the Lecce Provincial Museum, interests different artistic expressions widespread in the Salento peninsula (South Italy). In the present study, the characterisation of organic and inorganic materials used in the oldest pictorial cycle found in the 12th century monastery Santa Maria delle Cerrate was carried out thanks to a multi-analytical approach. Previous investigations have focused on the problem of dating the frescoes mainly on the basis of the stylistic aspects and the material characterisation has been definitely underinvestigated. Chromatographic and spectrometric techniques were used: micro-Raman spectroscopy was used for recognising pigments and gas chromatography with mass spectrometric detection for analysing organic binders. These techniques enabled us to characterise pigments and binders. The presence of both true fresco and tempera bound pigments was assessed. Among the different pigments detected, the results relevant to the blue paints were interesting: two different blue pigments were, indeed, identified, lapis lazuli and smalt (cobalt blue glass) both unexpected. As a result, Santa Maria delle Cerrate appears to be the first known example of their use in South Italy. From a conservation point of view, moreover, the knowledge of the palette permitted to highlight the reason of observed decay of some paints: for instance, lead white was used in some panels, explaining their blackening.

The magnitude of different aluminium alloys, especially the ones with higher strength, are increasing in the structural engineering, not just the usual applications (like the aerospace industry) but more likely in the automotive industry. There are more assumptions of the effective use of aluminium; we should highlight two important factors, the technological and the applicability criterions. The technological criterion is the joining of structural elements, frequently with welding thus the technological criterion ultimately is the weldability. The assumption of applicability comes from the loading capability of these structures, which is typically cyclic loading so the key issue from the point of view of applicability is the resistance to fatigue. This article represents physical simulation and fatigue test results both on the base material and on the welded joints.

This  paper  use  SERVQUAL measure  for  assessingthe  quality  of  the  administrative  services  in  a  large  mall,located in Brazil,  seen from the point of view of the currentservice  providers.  A questionnaire  was  used  to  interview 68service companies, and 5 CEO mall of this case of study. Twofactors were compared: the expectations and perceptions of theservice  providers,  the  comparison  enabled  the  strengths  andweaknesses of the quality perceived of the services offered bythe  mall  were  undertaken  as  a  case  study. Understand whatfeatures  and  level  of  service  must  have  in  order  to  meetconsumer needs, against on how consumers perceive the actualmall  performance  in  the  context  of  what  they  expected  to ensuring  good  service  to  classify  into  three  categories  offactors:  Basic,  Performance  and  Excitement.The  findings  ofthis study may prompt future research to create a new tool tohelp those managers and service companies in the process ofmaking decisions aimed at improving the strategic relationshipwith retail companies and thus to improve the quality of themall  services.  One  contribution  of  this  study  is  the  simpleproposed model used to understanding how quality processesaffect each organizational dimension of service performance.
