Entrepreneurial Team Conflict and Cohesion: Meta-structural Equation Modeling

Abstract We explore the mediating effects that entrepreneurial team conflict and cohesion have on the relationship between team diversity and performance based on an inputs-mediators-outcomes framework. Using 56 samples from 54 empirical studies, we conducted a meta-analysis of the hypothesized relationships and used meta-analytic structural equation modeling (MASEM) to test the mediating models. Our findings reveal that team diversity was related to cognitive and affective conflict, and only affective conflict was associated with objective and subjective venture performance. Furthermore, entrepreneurial team cohesion had positive effects on venture performance. Our unique contributions to the entrepreneurial team literature and future research suggestions are also discussed.

The present study examined conceptual issues surrounding celebrity worship in a Malay-speaking population. In total, 512 Malay and 269 Chinese participants from Malaysia indicated who their favorite celebrity was and completed the Celebrity Attitude Scale (CAS) as well as a range of demographic items. Results showed that the majority of Malay and Chinese participants selected pop stars and movie stars as their favourite celebrities, mirroring findings in Western settings. In addition, exploratory factor analysis revealed a three-factor solution of the CAS that was consistent with previous studies conducted in the West. Structural equation modeling further revealed that participant’s age was negatively associated with celebrity worship and that self-rated attractiveness was positively associated with celebrity worship. Overall, the present results suggest that celebrity worship in Malaysia may be driven by market and media forces, and future research may well be guided by use of the CAS.

Structural Equation Modeling, an extension of several multivariate techniques is the technique popularly used today can examine a series of dependence relationships simultaneously. The purpose of this study is to provide a short review on Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) being used in social sciences research. A comprehensive literature review of article appearing in top journals is conducted in order to identify how often SEM theory is used. Also the key SEM steps have been provided offering potential researchers with a theoretical supported systematic approach that simplify the multiple options with performing SEM.

Entrepreneurial and innovative activities are becoming a global economic and social phenomenon, especially in emerging economies. This study focuses on a typical emerging economy, China, and its entrepreneurial and innovative activities. On the basis of current research, the literature review and the chain of “cognition–behavior–outcome” are used for constructing the theoretical model for the relationship among entrepreneurial team cognition characteristics, behavior characteristics, and venture performance. A total of 101 valid copies of questionnaire are collected from entrepreneurial team members, as the research objects, and the structural equation modeling (SEM) method is applied to test the theoretical hypotheses. The research results reveal (1) significant effects of entrepreneurial team cognition characteristics and behavior characteristics on venture performance and (2) partial mediating effects of entrepreneurial team behavior characteristics on the relationship between cognition characteristics and venture performance. The research results are the expansion of research on entrepreneurial teams as well as the important reference for entrepreneurial team management and behavioral practice.

The notion of Industry 4.0 encompasses the adoption of new information technologies that enable an enormous amount of information to be digitally collected, analyzed, and exploited in organizations to make better decisions. Therefore, finding how organizations can adopt big data (BD) components to improve their performance becomes a relevant research area. This issue is becoming more pertinent for small and medium enterprises (SMEs), especially in developing countries that encounter limited resources and infrastructures. Due to the lack of empirical studies related to big data adoption (BDA) and BD’s business value, especially in SMEs, this study investigates the impact of BDA on SMEs’ performance by obtaining the required data from experts. The quantitative investigation followed a mixed approach, including survey data from 224 managers from Iranian SMEs, and a structural equation modeling (SEM) methodology for the data analysis. Results showed that 12 factors affected the BDA in SMEs. BDA can affect both operational performance and economic performance. There has been no support for the influence of BDA and economic performance on social performance. Finally, the study implications and findings are discussed alongside future research suggestions, as well as some limitations and unanswered questions.

PurposeThis paper examines whether guests contribute sWOM (social word of mouth) on different SNSs (social networking sites) regarding various personal motivations. SNSs have changed the way guests eat and experience their food and dishes. Marketing managers have effectively targeted SNSs as a marketing tool, yet have little research about drivers of guests' sWOM contribution on SNSs has been done. A model including the significant motives: (1) experiences, (2) opinion leadership, (3) reflection of self and (4) need for unique is tested to investigate their positive effects on contribution behavior of social media guests.Design/methodology/approachThe data collected from 411 guests by using the snowball method was used for analysis. The structural equation modeling was applied to examine the relationships among the constructs and test the eight proposed hypotheses.FindingsResults reveal that experiences, opinion leadership, reflection of self and need for unique were positively associated with contributing sWOM of restaurants. Furthermore, those who have positive experiences tend to be opinion leadership and reflection of self. And guests who show reflection of self, they are more likely to have opinion leaders and show need for uniqueness. Our study expands the existing frameworks of sWOM contribution by identifying various motivations and labeling sWOM. Findings provide restaurant managers with managerial implications for online marketing strategies on SNSs to attract sWOM contribution among guests.Research limitations/implicationsIt has some limitations while discovering the motivations of positive sWOM contribution. First, we only focused on the motivation of contributing positive sWOM, while negative sWOM received many arguments in changing attitudes toward buying products or services. Second, we collected data in Vietnam only without comparing with different countries. Future research could explore further cross-cultural perspectives to fill the gap. Third, this study explored sWOM contribution in service environment, sWOM contribution from service context may be slightly different from those of product brands.Practical implicationsThese findings highlight the motivations of sWOM contribution that restaurant managers must recognize and make use of it. SNSs have given power to consumers to post everything at anytime and anywhere they like, therefore restaurant managers need to deeply understand why their consumers contribute sWOM. In digital era, customers and guests have become the ultimate tools for promoting product or service brands. The marketing managers should create an online platform in order to facilitate their consumers to discuss their brand frequently (Charu et al., 2018). Restaurants should have policies to push positive eWOM maximally and also reduce advertising costs.Originality/valueThis is one of the first studies on sWOM contribution of what motivate guests to contribute their sWOM on SNSs. Theoretically, this study offers deep insights into the links between various motivations and sWOM in foodservice context. Managerially, understanding these motivations allow marketing managers create effective policies that motivate guests to contribute positive word of mouth.

Female gender has been consistently associated with positive psychological help-seeking attitudes and behaviors; however, surprisingly few empirical studies have examined how femininity-related variables impact women’s help-seeking decision making. Informed by the theory of reasoned action (Ajzen & Fishbein, 1980), the purpose of this study was (a) to investigate the associations between two femininity constructs—subjective femininity stress and gender solidarity—and psychological help-seeking intention, and (b) to explore the mediating roles of help-seeking attitudes and social stigma using structural equation modeling. Participants were 451 college-enrolled women in Southern California. Results revealed that all the mediation relationships involving help-seeking attitudes and stigma were significant. Subjective femininity stress was positively related to help-seeking intention via help-seeking attitudes, but was negatively related to intention via social stigma. Gender solidarity was positively related to help-seeking intention via positive attitudes and reduced social stigma. Implications for future research, prevention programs, and practice are discussed.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate whether four motives – conformity, enhancement, social and coping – mediate relationships between four personality types – agreeableness, extraversion, neuroticism and openness to experience – and social networking site (SNS) addiction. Impulse control is included as a moderator. Design/methodology/approach The paper uses a survey to collect data at two points in time from 304 SNS users. Structural equation modeling was used for data analysis. Findings Empirical results show that conformity, enhancement and coping motives act as mediators between various personality types and SNS addiction. Furthermore, impulse control weakens the effects of two motives – enhancement and social – on SNS addiction. Research limitations/implications The research model included only four motives. Future research could investigate other motivational mechanisms and moderators. The research method surveyed university students in the USA; thus, results may not generalize to a different user population. The method also included only one SNS, Facebook. Originality/value The paper contributes to the literature by showing that motives of SNS use connect personality to SNS addiction. This study also shows that self-reflective factors like impulse control can reduce the positive effects of motives on SNS addiction.

Justice-involved women experience significantly higher rates of victimization and psychological distress, and these experiences place women at greater risk of initial and ongoing involvement in the criminal justice system. This research explored the relationship between victimization, the hypothesized mediators (social support and coping), and psychological distress among a sample of 406 victimized women on probation/parole. Results of the Structural Equation Modeling (SEM) were significant and indicated a partial mediation model (74%) with both direct and indirect effects. Based upon the results of this research, implications and future research are explored regarding gender-responsive practices for this population.

Penelitian ini bertujuan mengetahui pengaruh kondisi internal pertanian terhadap sistem pertanian terintegrasi padi sawah dengan ternak kerbau dan pengembangan wilayah di Kabupaten Humbang Hasundutan. Metode analisis dengan R/C ratio dan pemodelan persamaan struktural (Structural Equation Modeling). Hasil penelitian; a) sistem pertanian terintegrasi padi sawah dan ternak kerbau lebih efisien dibandingkan usahatani non integrasi (R/C integrasi 2,4795 > R/C non-integrasi), b) Kondisi internal pertanian berpengaruh positif signifikan terhadap sistem pertanian terintegrasi dengan bobot regresi standar 0.52,p<0.001, c) Kondisi internal pertanian berpengaruh langsung tidak signifikan terhadap pengembangan wilayah dengan bobot regresi standar 0.24, p < 0.001; c) Kondisi internal pertanian berpengaruh tidak langsung terhadap pengembangan wilayah melalui sistem pertanian terintegrasi padi sawah dan ternak kerbau sebesar 0.28, total pengaruh kondisi internal pertanian terhadap pengembangan wilayah sebesar 0.52. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian disarankan agar: a) pemerintah daerah melakukan pelatihan kepada petani yang mengelola pertanian sistem integrasi agar lebih baik, b) pemerintah memperhatikan kelanyakan sarana prasarana pertanian, khususnya fasilitas jalan, irigasi, c) pemerintah menyediakan bibit berkualitas, penyuluhan tentang beternak yang baik, d) pemerintah melakukan pelatihan terhadap petani dalam mengembangkan usahataninya sehingga pendapatan meningkat dan berdampak pada pengembangan wilayah, e) pemerintah membantu petani untuk mendapatkan modal usahatani yang lebih fleksibel dan harga output yang stabil.   This study aims to determine the effect of agricultural internal conditions on the integrated agricultural system between paddy field and buffalo livestock on the Humbang Hasundutan regional development. Using R / C ratio and Structural Equation Modeling, this study finds that a) the integrated agricultural system is more efficient than the non-integrated ones, with the integration R / C = 2.4795 that is higher than the non-integration one, b) Internal agricultural conditions have significant positive effects on integrated farming systems with standard regression weights of 0.52 and p <0.001, c) Internal conditions of agriculture have a direct and insignificant effect on regional development with a standard regression weight of 0.24 and p <0.001; c) Internal conditions of agriculture have an indirect effect on regional development through an integrated farming system of paddy rice and buffalo livestock of 0.28, and total effect of internal agricultural conditions on regional development of 0.52. Based on the results it is suggested that: a) the regional government should conduct training to improve the farmers agricultural integration system management, b) the government should pay attention to the maintenance of agricultural infrastructure, especially road facilities, irrigation, c) the government provides quality seeds, good information about raising livestock , d) the government should conduct trainings to support the development of farmers’ business and income increases, which at the end impacts the regional development, e) the government helps farmers to obtain more flexible farming capital and stable output prices.

This study is about fear of crime, which is one of the most important topics in the criminological research.The study tested an integrated model in structural equation modeling method by using both SPSS and AMOS. Those who perceive higher levels of incivility were found to be more fearful of crime. Policies to reduce fear of crime and implications for future research were discussed based on the findings.
