AbstractThe aim of this research was to explore the potential of acoustic impact test to evaluate the condition of hardwood logs in regard to internal decay, void, crack and defect ratio using an acoustic signal separation and enhancement algorithm. Longitudinal acoustic signals were obtained from 15 logs of four hardwood species through acoustic impact testing. The defect components were separated from the acoustic response signals and enhanced based on the autoregressive minimum entropy deconvolution (AR-MED) method, and from which the kurtosis was derived and used as the global feature parameter for evaluating the internal condition of logs. Compared with the acoustic velocity obtained directly from the original signal, the kurtosis was deemed to be a more powerful predictor of log defect ratio with higher coefficient of determination (R2 = 0.89) and was not affected by log species. To identify the type of defects, a complex Morlet wavelet-based spectral kurtosis (SK) method was proposed. The research results indicated that the SK can not only determine the type and primary and secondary major defects, but also be able to identify those that were not detectable by global acoustic parameters.

AbstractDelamination and decay are common structural defects in old glued laminated timber (glulam) buildings, which, if left undetected, could cause severe structural damage. This paper presents a new damage detection method for glulam inspection based on moment analysis and wavelet transform (WT) of impact acoustic signals. Acoustic signals were collected from a glulam arch section removed from service through impact testing at various locations. The presence and positions of internal defects were preliminarily determined by applying time centroid and frequency centroid of the first moment. Acoustic signals were then decomposed by wavelet packet transform (WPT) and the energy of the sub-bands was calculated as characteristics of the response signals. The sub-bands of 0–375 Hz and 375–750 Hz were identified as the most discriminative features that are associated with decay and delamination and therefore are indicative of the presence of delamination or decay defects. A defect diagnosis algorithm was tested for its ability to identify internal decay and delamination in glulam. The results show that depth of delamination in a glulam member can be determined with reasonable accuracy.

Abstract Strength grading is an important step for the production of homogenous and high-quality solid wood material. In particular, for hardwoods, the use of non-visible characteristics is indispensable. Dynamic MOE (Edyn) is an important parameter widely used for grading of softwoods and applicable to hardwoods as well. There are two common ways to measure Edyn—ultrasound (US) wave propagation and longitudinal vibration (LV) method. Both methods are used in practice, however, due to the different inherent measurement techniques, the results differ. The current paper analyses the stiffness and strength coefficients of determination for several temperate European hardwood species and emphasizes the differences between the two measurement systems. The performance was analysed with regard to grading techniques, testing modes for the mechanical properties (tension and bending) and wood qualities. For more than 2861 pieces of European ash (Fraxinus excelsior), European beech (Fagus sylvatica), European oak (Quercus spp.) and maple (Acer spp.), the Edyn was measured using both techniques, and destructive tests (tension and edgewise bending) were applied. The results show that LV has higher coefficient of determination compared to the US Edyn. The coefficient of determination for both methods and tensile application can be increased by calculating Edyn with average density. Furthermore, the results support species-independent strength grading of hardwoods. Further research on the effect of different wood qualities and sawing patterns is required.

We have recently established the existence of two structural states of the Z band lattice in cross section in cardiac as well as in skeletal muscle. The two structural states are related to the contractile state of the muscle. In skeletal muscle at rest, the Z band is in the small square (ss) lattice form, but tetanized muscle exhibits the basket weave (bw) form. In contrast, unstimu- lated cardiac muscle exhibits the bw form, but cardiac muscles exposed to EGTA show the ss form.We have used two-dimensional computer enhancement techniques on digitized electron micrographs to compare each lattice form as it appears in both cardiac and skeletal muscle. Both real space averaging and fourier filtering methods were used. Enhanced images were displayed as grey-scale projections, as contour maps, and in false color. There is only a slight difference between the lattices produced by the two different enhancement techniques. Thus the information presented in these images is not likely to be an artifact of the enhancement algorithm.

This study aims to determine the significance of the influence of competence, independence, professionalism, auditor experience, accountability, and auditor's knowledge of audit quality. This study uses a questionnaire with a population and sample, namely all auditors who work at the Public Accounting Office (KAP) in the Special Region of Yogyakarta and Surakarta. Sampling techniques using Convenience Sampling with a sample of 61 respondents. The data used in this study is a questionnaire using a Likert scale 1 to 5. The data analysis technique used in this study is multiple linear regression using the SPSSprogram for Windows. The analysis tool in this study using validity and reliability, the classical assumption (normality test, multicollinearity, heteroscedasticity test and autocorrelation test) while the data were analyzed using multiple linear regression test, t test, F test and the coefficient of determination (R2).Based on the results of the t-test analysis performed, it shows that there is a positive influence of competence, independence, professionalism, auditor experience, accountability, and auditor's knowledge of audit quality and simultaneously competency, independence, professionalism, auditor experience, accountability, and auditor knowledge variables affect quality audit

This research aims to test the influence of accounting information system and work stress on performance of employees of PT Efrata Retailindo. The type of research used in this research is quantitative research. The source of the data in the research is primary data. The population in this study are all employees of PT Efrata Retailindo totalling 47 people. Sampling techniques in the study using a purposive sample. While the data collection method used is to use the questionnaire to all employees of PT Efrata Retailindo. Data analysis techniques using multiple linear regression analysis. Based on the results of the study it can be concluded that work stress had no effect on performance of employees of PT Efrata Retailindo, while information systems accounting effect on the performance of the employees of PT Efrata Retailindo. The value of the coefficient of determination (R2) amounting to 0.106. This indicates that variansi on a variable performance practice undertaken by the company PT Efrata Retailindo of 10.6% can be explained by work stress variables and accounting information systems, while the remaining 89.4% explained by other factors outside the researched.
