Abstract The genetic counsellor profession has not yet been established in the German-speaking countries. In 2019 the Medical University of Innsbruck inaugurated the first German-taught Master’s degree programme in Genetic and Genomic Counselling. In order to discuss prospects and challenges of the genetic counsellor profession in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (DACH region), the MSc programme team organized a two-day workshop with international speakers and medical geneticists from the DACH region. Day 1 was dedicated to the history, training and international profile of the genetic counsellor profession. Day 2 focused on four specific topics: (i) professional role, (ii) acceptance and job title, (iii) formal requirements and (iv) remuneration concepts for genetic counsellors in the DACH region. The workshop showed that the key factor for the successful implementation of the genetic counsellor profession is acceptance and trust within the medical genetics team. Genetic counsellors complement patient care in aspects that might be underserved considering the increasing demand of counselling in genomic medicine. Successful establishment of the genetic counsellor profession will entail the development of interprofessional teams under medical supervision and in the team of medical geneticists.

In this study, the two key factors affecting the thermal performance of the insert rubber and stress distribution on the tire sidewall were analyzed extensively through various performance tests and simulations to promote the development of run-flat tires. Four compounds and two structures of insert rubber were designed to investigate the effects of heat accumulation and stress distribution on durability testing at zero pressure. It was concluded that the rigidity and tensile strength of the compound were negatively correlated with temperature. The deformation was a key factor that affects energy loss, which could not be judged solely by the loss factor. The stress distribution, however, should be considered in order to avoid early damage of the tire caused by stress concentration. On the whole, the careful balance of mechanical strength, energy loss, and structural rigidity was the key to the optimal development of run-flat tires. More importantly, the successful implementation of the simulations in the study provided important and useful guidance for run-flat tire development.

Скорость и качество овладения русским языком иностранными студентами, обучающимися в медицинских вузах России, во многом зависят от того, имеется ли у этих студентов возможность пройти предварительную языковую подготовку на подготовительном факультете. В условиях ее отсутствия студенты получают образование на языке-посреднике, а русский язык становится факультативной дисциплиной, в результате чего погружение в русскую культуру, понимание правил невербальной коммуникации в русскоязычной среде, равно как и просто уверенное владение русским языком становятся уделом избранных лиц. Вместе с тем каждый иностранный студент должен проходить практику в русских медицинских учреждениях. В связи с этим перед преподавателем русского языка как иностранного встает несколько задач, к числу которых относится не только общеязыковая подготовка иностранных обучающихся к прохождению медицинской практики, но и речевая, культурологическая и психологическая. Успешной реализации поставленных задач может способствовать создание и использование на занятиях специального словаря-разговорника, который позволит студентам заблаговременно познакомиться с правилами поведения в больнице, освоить необходимый для практики лексический минимум, ввести в активный речевой оборот ряд фраз, актуальных в повседневном общении медперсонала с больными. В статье раскрывается и объясняется структура словаря, обозначены его задачи и целевая аудитория. The speed and the quality of mastering the Russian language by foreign students studying at medical universities in Russia largely depend on whether these students have the opportunity to take a preliminary year-long Russian language course at the preparatory division. If the students receive education in the English language, the Russian language program is reduced to an optional course, not sufficient to ensure understanding of Russian culture and rules of non-verbal communication in a Russian-speaking environment. However, every foreign student must undergo practical training in Russian medical institutions. In this case the Russian language teacher faces an almost insurmountable task of equipping students with the skills of communicating with Russian patients and colleagues and with sufficient cultural and psychological awareness for adequate verbal and non-verbal behavior in a hospital environment. The successful implementation of these tasks can be facilitated by developing and using a special vocabulary-phrase book at the lessons of the Russian language. This manual will allow students to get acquainted with the rules of behavior in the hospital in advance, master the lexical minimum necessary for practice and introduce a number of phrases that are relevant in everyday communication of medical staff with patients. The article reveals and explains the structure of the manual, identifies its objectives and target audience.

Group technology (GT) is a management philosophy that attempts to group products with similar design and/or manufacturing characteristics. It is also a key factor in the successful implementation of flexible manufacturing systems, and equally is one of the foundations of the implementation of intelligent manufacturing. The success of GT implementation is in the effective formation of part families and the rational layout of the manufacturing cell (machine family). In this chapter, the background and conception of (GT) are introduced, followed by succinct descriptions of the similarity criterion, classification and coding systems, and classification approaches of GT. The actual applications of GT to product design, process planning and group scheduling are discussed, and finally the summary and trends of GT are articulated.

Assessing and addressing spiritual needs is a key factor in the quality of life and overall wellbeing of cancer patients. However, the evolution and diversification of assessment tools has not automatically been followed by their successful implementation; thus, addressing unmet needs continues to be a concern. In this paper, we examine the place of bibliotherapy (also called reading therapy or poetry therapy) as a group intervention in the oncological setting in revealing spiritual needs. We show that it represents not only a useful intervention but may also provide instant relief and reduce spiritual suffering. Bibliotherapy understood and practiced as a subtle balance of texts and group processes alleviates cognitive and emotional symptoms of a spiritual concern and facilitates finding meaning in life in general and illness in particular. As an intervention, it is effective, affordable and attractive; moreover, it equips patients receiving treatment and rehabilitation with the lifelong skill of reflective reading. Bibliotherapy is easily tailored to almost any needs and promotes self-expression, which provides spiritual fulfillment in itself.

Abstract After the end of Nazi terrorism with many crimes against neuropsychiatric and disabled people, from 1950 on detection and treatment of these diseases in children and adolescents grew continuously: in the 50s and 60s, several German books on neuropediatric topics were published, a journal was founded, and junior pediatricians established many scientific contacts with foreign neuropediatricians. In 1972, the team of the Kehl-Kork Epilepsy Clinic invited neuropediatric colleagues from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland for a first joint workshop. On March 4th, 1975, the Neuropaediatric Society of the German-speaking countries was founded in Heidelberg and its goals, as well as guidelines for membership, were formulated. The first annual meeting took place 1975 in Heidelberg as well. Between 1975 and 1990, the number of members of the GNP continued to increase from 140 to more than 230, despite strict admission criteria. The president was elected for a one-year term and was responsible for organizing the annual meeting, which took place alternately in Germany, Austria or Switzerland. The continuity of the society was ensured by secretary and treasurer as well as several longtime assessors. The meetings covered the entire spectrum of neurological and neuropsychological disorders in children. In addition to the age-dependent clinical investigation, the most important diagnostic methods were electrophysiology, in particular, the EEG and EMG, the new possibilities of cerebral imaging utilizing X-ray computed tomography and ultrasound, and biochemical analyzes for detection of metabolic diseases. Research projects were mostly carried out in university institutions and were only partially multi-center or financed with public funds. International contacts took place on many levels, e.g. through scholarships and personal exchanges with European and US scientific societies and institutions. Unfortunately, the opportunity to exchange ideas with colleagues from the German Democratic Republic (GDR) was limited. Several working groups addressed controversial issues of developmental neurology, epileptology, and alternative therapies. With the establishment of social pediatric centers in Germany from the late 1980s, there was an increasing demand for well-educated and experienced neuropediatricians.

With the huge proliferation of Big Data, combined with the increasing demand for analytics-driven decision-making, the data analytics and visualization (DAV) ecosystem is increasingly becoming a trending practice that many enterprises are adopting to gain actionable insights from corporate data for effective decision-making. Although DAV platforms have tremendous benefits, extant research has paid insufficient attention to the investigation of the critical success factors (CSFs) underpinning their successful implementation in enterprises. In order to bridge this knowledge gap, this study presents an integrative framework synthesizing a set of CSFs for implementing DAV platforms in enterprises. A qualitative research methodology, comprising semi-structured interviews with IT and business analysts, was conducted to collect and analyze the interview data. Analysis of results revealed that the CSFs of DAV implementation exist in various dimensions composed of organizational, technological, process, and people perspectives. This study provides several theoretical and practical implications.

One of the possibilities to achieve energy neutrality of wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) is the implementation of the anaerobic co-digestion strategy. However, a key factor in its successful implementation on the technical scale is the application of components with complementary composition to sewage sludge (SS). In the 7resent study, the influence of adding various co-substrates on the energy balance of anaerobic digestion was evaluated. The following organic wastes were used as additional components to SS: organic fraction of municipal solid waste (OFMSW) and distillery spent wash (DW) applied in two- and three-component systems. The experiments were performed in semi-flow anaerobic reactors with the volume of 40 L under mesophilic conditions (35 °C) at hydraulic retention time (HRT) of 20, 18, and 16 d. The application of substrates to SS resulted in enhancements of methane yields as compared to SS mono-digestion. The statistically significant differences were observed in tertiary mixtures at both HRT of 18 and 16 d. Therein, average values were 0.20 and 0.23 m3 kg−1VSadd at HRT of 18 and 16 d, respectively. Among all co-digestion series, the most beneficial effect on energy balance was found in 20% v/v DW presence in both two- and three-component systems at HRT of 16 d.

Subject. In 2017, the “Happy Smile” project was developed at the dental faculty of the Ural State Medical University and its active implementation began, during which teachers and students conduct preventive measures in educational institutions, shopping centers, hospitals of the city. The goal is to increase the literacy of the population in relation to the prevention of oral diseases, as well as the quality of life of the population by reducing the level of dental morbidity, the formation of professional and super-professional competencies of a modern graduate dentist. Methodology. According to WHO, the prevalence of dental diseases does not tend to decrease. An urgent task today is the development of programs and projects aimed at the health of the population. Results. In 2017, the staff of the Department of Therapeutic Dentistry and Propaedeutics of Dental Diseases of the Ural State Medical University took the initiative to create a Happy Smile preventive project at the faculty. The main objectives of the project were: the creation of a comprehensive preventive program covering all age groups of the population; carrying out activities aimed at updating the preservation and maintenance of dental health; improving the quality of medical (dental) education by involving students in medical volunteering; expansion of the territory of events to nearby cities of the Sverdlovsk region. Conclusions. Participation in the project forms significant professional and supra-professional competencies of students, which helps to improve the quality of training of future dentists. The involvement of students in the implementation of the project will increase their relevance in the labor market. Implementation of the project is a health-saving technology that reduces dental incidence in Yekaterinburg and the Sverdlovsk Region.

Offshore wind turbine (OWT) installations are continually expanding as they are considered an efficient mechanism for covering a part of the energy consumption requirements. The assessment of the energy potential of OWTs for specific offshore sites is the key factor that defines their successful implementation, commercialization and sustainability. The data used for this assessment mainly refer to wind speed measurements. However, the data may not present homogeneity due to incomplete or missing entries; this in turn, is attributed to failures of the measuring devices or other factors. This fact may lead to considerable limitations in the OWTs energy potential assessment. This paper presents two novel methodologies to handle the problem of incomplete and missing data. Computational intelligence algorithms are utilized for the filling of the incomplete and missing data in order to build complete wind speed series. Finally, the complete wind speed series are used for assessing the energy potential of an OWT in a specific offshore site. In many real-world metering systems, due to meter failures, incomplete and missing data are frequently observed, leading to the need for robust data handling. The novelty of the paper can be summarized in the following points: (i) a comparison of clustering algorithms for extracting typical wind speed curves is presented for the OWT related literature and (ii) two efficient novel methods for missing and incomplete data are proposed.

Abstract Speech-language pathologists are faced with an increasing demand to conduct language and literacy assessments for children who are from cultures different from their own. Cross-cultural assessment is challenging. This article outlines the conditions necessary for successful implementation of culturally appropriate models of assessment. Alternative approaches to assessment are proposed that will guide speech-language pathologists about where, when, and how to assess children. Embedded approaches, authentic approaches, mediated approaches, and comprehensive models offer the speech-language pathologist the option of using assessment activities which can be adapted to match the needs of the child being assessed. And finally, ideas for family-professional collaboration in the assessment of young children's language and literacy development are provided.
