This article offers a glimpse of the Americans with Disabilities Act (“ADA”) of 1990, as amended by the ADA Amendments Act of 2008 (“ADAAA”), at its 30th anniversary. It considers current issues before the courts, primarily legal cases from 2020 and 2021, and new questions in light of the COVID-19 pandemic, such the latitude of the ADA’s antidiscrimination protections and its definition of disability. It provides a quick primer on the basics of the ADA: employment discrimination under Title I, antidiscrimination mandates for state and local governments under Title II, and commands to places of accommodation offering services to the public under Title III. The ADA at 30 remains a beacon for a future in which all people, regardless of individual difference, will be welcomed as full and equal members of society.

This chapter presents an overview of the four most important external policies of the European Union. It starts with the Common Commercial Policy (CCP), which still constitutes the ‘centrepiece’ of EU external relations. It is set out in Title II of the External Action Part of the Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union (TFEU). The chapter also looks at the legal foundations of the Union's development policy. The Union's development policy draws on various parts within the EU Treaties, of which Chapter 1 within Title III of the External Action Part represents only an element of the overall picture. The chapter then moves to the Common Foreign and Security Policy, which touches upon the military heart of the Member States' external sovereignty; and it has therefore been subject to very rigid political safeguards of federalism. Finally, it explores the ‘policies’ of association and enlargement. While not styled as external policies as such, the Union has nonetheless turned both into formidable strategic tools to ‘export’ its values.

Abstract The genetic counsellor profession has not yet been established in the German-speaking countries. In 2019 the Medical University of Innsbruck inaugurated the first German-taught Master’s degree programme in Genetic and Genomic Counselling. In order to discuss prospects and challenges of the genetic counsellor profession in Germany, Austria and Switzerland (DACH region), the MSc programme team organized a two-day workshop with international speakers and medical geneticists from the DACH region. Day 1 was dedicated to the history, training and international profile of the genetic counsellor profession. Day 2 focused on four specific topics: (i) professional role, (ii) acceptance and job title, (iii) formal requirements and (iv) remuneration concepts for genetic counsellors in the DACH region. The workshop showed that the key factor for the successful implementation of the genetic counsellor profession is acceptance and trust within the medical genetics team. Genetic counsellors complement patient care in aspects that might be underserved considering the increasing demand of counselling in genomic medicine. Successful establishment of the genetic counsellor profession will entail the development of interprofessional teams under medical supervision and in the team of medical geneticists.

Title III of the Jumpstart Our Business Startups Act (JOBS Act) enacted by the U.S. Congress enables a new crowdfunding source of investment capital for entrepreneurs and a new opportunity for all investors (Regulation CF). Given the information asymmetry, the SEC requires that managers provide information to investors (Form C). Using this information, this research tests whether business attributes, financial risks, and offering characteristics are associated with successful crowdfunding efforts for 277 offerings originating during 2016-2017 and closed as of May 2018. The following attributes are positively correlated with funding success: product idea; prior managerial experience with startups; financial risks reported by management; availability of an independent CPA review; and, especially for companies reporting revenue, accounting risk measurements. Finally, the funding intermediary chosen is important and some were more successful than others. Overall, the results provide new insights concerning characteristics of successful security-based crowdfunding offerings.
