Information processing in learning theory involves students' ability to receive and understand the information obtained. Students' ability to identify learning methods that are appropriate to the learning style plays an important role in continuously improving the quality of teaching and learning. The need to diversify learning methods today is seen as a step to refine the learning approach in line with the latest technology development. Different student learning styles affect the quality of learning and motivation for a course, especially hospitality and tourism courses. This course is given less emphasis on the theoretical aspect and only focuses on practical needs. Thus, this study examines the adaptation of student learning style based on the Felder-Silverman learning style model. Student learning styles identified through a survey study of 80 students of Hospitality and Tourism courses were used as the basis for developing the e-Hospitality and Tourism model. The resulting e-Hospitality and Tourism model can be used as a guide in technical and vocational e-Learning.

The use of gamification has shown to be an interesting approach to engage users in MOOCs. In this context, different game strategies, elements, and mechanics are applied to help to improve the teaching/learning process. When designing teaching/learning methods, teachers must take into account both gamification techniques and learning styles in order to encourage students and to improve their learning performance, respectively. However, while applying gamification and at the same time keep taking into account the corresponding learning styles, we may find some kinds of incompatibilities. Thus, what this chapter covers is the conducted experimental analysis aimed at exploring the viability of merging gamer's profiles and learning styles in a single multidimensional user profile. The obtained results expose that, with this approach, we are able to identify groups of students so that, while designing teaching/learning methods, we can take into account both learning styles to improve the learning performance and gamification techniques to motivate and encourage the student.

In this study, we investigated the correlations between the attitudes about learning of elementary students who attended after-school clubs and the teaching quality of their educators during school. Previously, scholars have focused on service quality and satisfaction from the point of view of the parents, while overlooking the attitudes of students and teachers. To investigate the correlation between student enthusiasm and teaching quality, we sent out a questionnaire survey, collected 343 valid responses, and tested the related data via regression analysis. From the teacher’s point of view, this study can be divided into five constructs: learning interest, self-regulated learning, completing homework, interaction with the environment, and preparation for examinations. We also examined the correlations between each construct and teaching quality. We found that learning interest, homework assignments, environment interaction, and preparation for examinations had a positive correlation with the teaching quality of the elementary level teachers. Lastly, based on our findings, we made recommendations on how to improve teaching quality and leaning in the classroom.

Anxiety disorders and suicide are commonly under-recognized issues that can be a public health problem. Adolescents are among the most affected population groups and studying them can prevent serious health problems. These two elements are related, but at the same time, they can only be understood from a multifactorial point of view, so other related variables such as emotional intelligence, empathy, or coping strategies are key to understand their effect on the population. In this study, a series of methods to measure the variables of interest were applied to a specific group of adolescents to determine their mental health levels, focusing on suicide and anxiety episodes. The results reflected average levels with a tendency to be high in the case of anxiety and nonalarming levels in terms of suicide risk, both parameters presenting more worrying values in women. In turn, the correlation between suicide and anxiety was demonstrated considering the other variables (coping strategies, empathy, emotional intelligence, and prosociality). This research has relevant implications for the diagnosis, orientation, and design of psychoeducational and clinical interventions that contribute to the improvement of their well-being and quality of life.

Most students are unaware of their learning styles and emotional intelligence.  Thus, it is important to know one’s learning styles and emotional intelligence because they can be used to increase self-awareness as to their strengths and weaknesses as learners. The study determined the learning styles and emotional intelligence of the students in the College of Technology of University of Northern Philippines, Philippines.  The study utilized descriptive-correlational method of research. Results showed that student respondents have an overall high level of learning style in all of its three dimensions: visual, auditory, and kinesthetic. Also, they have an overall high level of emotional intelligence in all of its dimensions. The overall level of learning styles of the respondents is significantly related with self-motivation while visual learning style is significantly linked to self-regulation.  Likewise, auditory learning style is significantly related to self-awareness, self-motivation, social skills and the overall level of emotional intelligence.  Meanwhile, kinesthetic learning style is significantly related to social awareness and self-motivation. The university should conduct an assessment of learning preferences of the students to determine their strengths and weaknesses. Likewise, emotional intelligence tests should be given to students to provide essential data on the attitudes of these students. Keywords –   Education, learning styles, emotional, intelligence, students, descriptive-correlational design,  Ilocos Sur, Philippines
