Abstract The author provides an osteological guide to songbirds, based on 11 skeletal parts of 51 genera, at the genus level for ornithologists studying owl pellets, paleontologists and archaezoologists. The mandible, the coracoid bone, the scapula, the humerus, the ulna, the carpometacarp, the first phalanx bone of the second finger, the femur, the tibiotars, the tarsometatars and the claw bone are presented. The morphological characteristics and method of measurement of the examined skeletal parts and the photographs of the appropriate bones are illustrated on 52 plates and 17 figures. The measurement data are also provided in 11 size tables. For every discussed bone, 3-6 characteristics are chosen, and their codes consist of 3-6 letters. In case of overlaps, dimensions are the determining factors, and for the humerus and the ulna, the ensemble of the two bone end pairs can be used.

The research was conducted on a sample including 166 participants - students of 'Combined Technical High School" of male sex from Travnik, who attended physical education classes regularly during the school year. In the research five variables were used to assess morphological status and nine variables to assess motor status of the participants according to the Eurofit Fitness Test Battery. The main aim of the research was to determine quantitative changes in morphological and motor status of secondary school students during one school year under the impact of programme content of regular physical education classes through a longitudinal study. Quantitative changes in morphological and motor status and analysis of differences between the initial and final measurements were determined by analysis of changes under the model of differences and SSDIF analysis (Bonacin, 2004). A hypothetical measurement matrix was defined by projecting the measurement data, and explicating a set of linear shifts on the association matrix resulted in obtaining structural vector describing quantitative changes, while taking into account relations of the initial variables. Results of the SSDIF analysis indicate that a one-year curriculum of physical education has caused statistically significant changes at global level (p = 0.0000) in both investigated areas, but the changes that have occurred are mild and without dramatic changes. Significant quantitative changes in the motor space occurred in body height and weight, and in the triceps skinfold, as well as in the following variables in the motor space: running 105 m (sideways), lifting the trunk from the lying on back position and the hand dynamometry, and the biggest and most statistically significant global quantitative changes occurred in the 20 m test run sideways with progressive acceleration (ATL20 0.8439). Key words: quantitative changes, morphological characteristics, motor skills, Physical and Health Culture Analiza kvantitativnih promjena morfoloko-motoričkih obilježja učenika srednje kole pod uticajem redovne nastave tjelesnog odgoja Istraživanje je provedeno na uzorku ispitanika koji je obuhvatio 166 ispitanika - učenika Mjeovite srednje tehničke kole mukog spola iz Travnika koji su u toku kolske godine redovno pohađali nastavu tjelesnog odgoja. Ključne riječi: kvantitativne promjene, morfoloke odlike, motoričke spsosobnosti, tjelesna i zdravstvena kultura

Abstract Two species of Palaquium (P. maliliensis and P. obovatum) were found coexist in same habitat in the educational forest of Hasanuddin University (Unhas). Two or more species are living in a habitat could be formed from similar parent through genetic isolation process without geographic isolation and was classified as sympatric congeneric species. So far, sympatric congeneric species is still controversial among researchers. Based on this case, the purpose of this study was to determine the microhabitat and morphological differences between the two species. The methods of the study were conducted by purposively selecting 21 samples of P. maliliensis and 20 samples of P. obovatum at the tree level. In each samples found, the microhabitat characteristics (topographic position and slope) and morphological characteristics (leaf, buttress root, and morphological in general) were observed. Morphological measurement data were analyzed with correlation test for intra-species variable and real difference test for inter-species variable. This study concluded that the slope was one of the major microhabitat factors that has driven the process of sympatric speciation between P. maliliensis and P. obovatum. In morphological characteristics, differences between P. maliliensis and P. obovatum appeared in the form of leaves.

One of the determining factors in disease control is the use of superior seeds which have good quality and quantity. The use of biological control agents that form a symbiotic mutualism in their host plants can be used as an effort to obtain quality clove seeds. Endophytic bacteria and rhizobacteria have been reported as potential biological control agents for many plant diseases because of their safety in humans and non-target organisms. The purpose of this study was to identify the physiological and morphological characteristics of endophytic and rhizobacterial isolates obtained from clove plants. A total of 46 endophytic bacterial isolates were isolated from healthy clove roots, stems, leaves and flowers. Also, 66 isolates were isolated from the soil around the rhizosphere area. Based on the results of the identification of physiological and morphological characteristics, it is evident that the endophytic and rhizobacterial bacteria tested have the same character as Bacillus spp.

AbstractCercariae of bird schistosomes are traditionally considered to be very similar in their morphological characteristics. In order to solve the problem, we tested some methods which might be suitable for cercarial differentiation. Fourteen isolates of three Trichobilharzia species (T. szidati, T. franki, T. regenti) occurring sympatrically in Central Europe were used. Dimensions of individual cercariae do not represent a useful criterion for identification, because the intraspecific variability exceeds the interspecific one. On the other hand, chaetotaxy appears a promising way for discrimination, although some sensory papillae do not stain sufficiently with silver nitrate. The papillary pattern (i.e. number and relative position of papillae) is specific for all Trichobilharzia species studied by us. Therefore, we compiled an identification key for the three Trichobilharzia species. In addition, we tried to find species-specific surface saccharide epitopes; none of the labeled lectin probes can be used as a speciesspecific marker.

Abstract Micro-morphological characteristics of the four Gladiolus L. species of the Ukrainian flora (G. imbricatus L., G. italicus Mill., G. palustris Gaudin and G. tenuis M. Bieb.) as regards leaves, seeds and pollens are presented with this investigation in a detailed way. An examination of the surface structure of the leaves, seeds and pollen grains of the Gladiolus species indicates that the characteristics of the ultrastructure of leaves and of pollen grains are not diagnostic for distinguishing species, but they could be important at genus level (leaves: features such as being amphistomatic, having the same quantity of immersed stomata on both surfaces and having a high stomata index, the presence and localisation of papillae, the shape of epidermal cells; pollen grains: monosulcate type with two operculums). However, the type of surface ultrastructure of the seed coat is a diagnostic feature as at genus level so for species. It can be mentioned that propose the use of features such as the shape and position of the cicatricle, the type of cuticle, the shape and boundaries of cells of testa, and the anticlinal cell walls as diagnostic features at genera level. The shape of seeds, the presence and disposition of wing, the level of the periclinal cell walls of the seed coat and types of relief are additional diagnostic features for distinguishing of Gladiolus species.

AbstractCentral Europe has a vital and extensive meteorological research community comprising national weather services, universities, and research organizations and institutes. Nearly all of them are involved in the open scientific questions regarding clouds and precipitation processes. The research activities include observations (from in situ ground-based remote sensing radio soundings to satellite-based observations), model development on all scales (from direct numerical simulations to global climate models), and other activities. With Germany as an example our first objective is to show the large amount and the diversity of observations regarding clouds and precipitation. The goal is to give an overview of existing measurements and datasets to show the benefit of combining the different information from a variety of observations. Up to now the access to and the usage of these datasets from different sources was not straightforward, due to the issue of missing data and archiving standards for observational data. This then motivates our second objective, which is to introduce our solution for this issue—the novel Standardized Atmospheric Measurement Data archive (SAMD). SAMD is one of the outcomes of the German research initiative High Definition Clouds and Precipitation for Advancing Climate Prediction [HD(CP)2]. The goal of SAMD is an easy-to-use approach for both data producers and archive users. Therefore the archive provides observational data in the common Climate Forecast (CF) Conventions format and makes it available to the broader public. SAMD offers highly standardized quality-controlled data and metadata for a wide range of instruments, with open access, which makes this novel archive important for the research community.

Respiratory rate measurement tool is a technique used to determine the number of respiratory activity a person every minute. In the classification of the number of breathing per minute someone, can be divided into three groups, namely the so-called eupnea/normal, above average breathing called tachypnea, while below the average so-called bradypnea. This method is highly dependent on the concentration of the mind and senses actor sensitivity measurement / observation. Therefore human nature is easy to forget, tired and bored, so now developed a method of measurement or observation of respiratory rate electronically. In this study, respiratory rate measurement making use flex sensor by placing the sensor in the patient's stomach and will detect the curvature of the patient's stomach. Results from the patient's respiratory displayed on the LCD Character and android using HC-05 Bluetooth as the media sender. The results of the measurement data of the 10 respondents indicated the average - average error of 3.2%. After testing and data collection can be concluded that the appliance is eligible to use because it is still within the tolerance range of 10%.

In 1965, the Institute for Jazz at the University of Music and Performing Arts (then the Academy of Music) in Graz started to build a reputation as a pioneer in jazz education in Europe. Upon the establishment of a separate Institute for Jazz Research in 1971, the institution was able to position itself as an academic centre with a focus on both artistic practice and the academic study of jazz; as such, it also inspired other jazz programmes across Central Europe. This article discusses the determining factors and socio-cultural conditions for the development of the Jazz Institutes in Graz and analyses aspects of professionalisation, internationalisation and outreach activities both local and international. The leading personalities in the institution's history are introduced, and their activities from 1965 to 1980 are described. After an overview of the Institute's current state, the article discusses internal and external conflicts and criticism of the Institute's activities, artistic orientation and status. Research for this article was compiled as part of the FWF research project ‘Jazz & the City: Identity of a Capital of Jazz', conducted at the University of Music and Performing Arts in Graz from 2011 to 2013 under Prof. Dr Franz Kerschbaumer

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) are naturally scattered and symbiotic with various tree species, AMF is able to improve plant adaptation to extreme soil conditions. About thirty-seven years Unilak, has been built in Riau Province, precisely in Rumbai Pekanbaru City. How is the existence of FMA on the developed campus land? Is the focus of this paper. Soil sampling for AMF observation refers to the modified ICRAF method. The extraction of AMF spores followed the pour and wet filter method followed by centrifugation techniques. Based on the morphological characteristics of the extracted AMF spores, it was identified to the genus level. The research series showed that the presence of AMF on the Unilak campus area contained 13 types of spores from the genus Acaulospora, Gigaspora, Glomus and Sclerocystis.

Bayesian and parsimony phylogenetic analyses of combined and partitioned datasets of molecular (partial sequences of 28S, wg, COI, and CAD) and morphological (51 characters of adults) data for exemplar taxa of five outgroup and 76 ingroup abacetine carabids resulted in a monophyletic Loxandrina Erwin & Sims, 1984 that is split into Australian and American clades. The genus Loxandrus LeConte, 1853 as previously delimited is not monophyletic relative to numerous genus-level taxa in Abacetini Chaudoir, 1873 and is restricted to a subgenus of North American species. A reclassification and nomenclatural changes for the subtribe that are consistent with the phylogeny are provided. Three genera are removed from Loxandrina: Aulacopodus Britton, 1940 moved to Pterostichini Bonelli, 1810; Cosmodiscus Sloane, 1907 and Tiferonia Darlington, 1962 moved to Abacetina. Based on the phylogenetic relationships and nomenclatural priority only four genera are recognized in Loxandrina: Cerabilia Laporte, 1867, Zeodera Laporte, 1867, Pediomorphus Chaudoir, 1878, and Oxycrepis Reiche, 1843. All other previously recognized genera are treated as subgenera. The classification change created eight secondary homonyms that are resolved by the proposal of the following: Oxycrepis gebi, replacement name for O. balli (Straneo, 1993); O. amatona, replacement name for O. matoana (Straneo, 1993); O. xiproma, replacement name for O. proxima (Straneo, 1993); O. rasutulis, replacement name for O. suturalis (Straneo, 1993); O. laevinota, replacement name for O. laevicollis (Bates, 1871); O. arvulap, replacement name for O. parvula (Straneo, 1951); O. noaffine, replacement name for O. affinis (Straneo, 1991); O. alutona, replacement name for O. notula (Tschitschérine, 1901). An overview of the morphological characteristics and diagnostic features of Loxandrina taxa is provided. A key and habitus images are provided for identification of genera and subgenera. The possible historical biogeography of the group is discussed in light of their phylogenetic relationships and past geological events.
