Emerging trends in eco-compliant, synergistic, and hybrid assembling of multifunctional polymeric bionanocomposites

AbstractThe quest to develop eco-benign polymeric hybrid materials arose out of the need to protect the environment from the harmful effects of synthetic petroleum polymeric waste and meet the specific needs of industries such as oil and gas, aerospace, automotives, packaging, electronics biomedicals, pharmaceuticals, agricultural, and construction. This has resulted in synergistic hybrid assembling of natural fibers, polymers, biopolymers, and nanoparticles. Bionanocomposites based on inorganic nanoparticle reinforced biofiber, polymers and biopolymers, and polysaccharides such as chitosan, alginate, and cellulose derivatives, and so on, exhibiting at least a dimension at the nanometer scale, are an emerging group of nanostructured hybrid materials. These hybrid bionanocomposites exhibit structural and multifunctional properties suitable for versatile applications similar to polymer nanocomposites. Their biocompatibility and biodegradability provide opportunities for applications as eco-benign green nanocomposites. This review presents state-of-the-art progress in synergistic nanotechnological assembling of bionanocomposites relative to processing technologies, product development, and applications.

Since the first clinical cancer treatment in 1978, photodynamic therapy (PDT) technologies have been largely improved and approved for clinical usage in various cancers. Due to the oxygen-dependent nature, the application of PDT is still limited by hypoxia in tumor tissues. Thus, the development of effective strategies for manipulating hypoxia and improving the effectiveness of PDT is one of the most important area in PDT field. Recently, emerging nanotechnology has benefitted progress in many areas, including PDT. In this review, after briefly introducing the mechanisms of PDT and hypoxia, as well as basic knowledge about nanomedicines, we will discuss the state of the art of nanomedicine-based approaches for assisting PDT for treating hypoxic tumors, mainly based on oxygen replenishing strategies and the oxygen dependency diminishing strategies. Among these strategies, we will emphasize emerging trends about the use of nanoscale metal–organic framework (nMOF) materials and the combination of PDT with immunotherapy. We further discuss future perspectives and challenges associated with these trends in both the aspects of mechanism and clinical translation.

Enterprise search is changing. The explosion of information within organizations, technological advances and availability of free OpenSource machine learning libraries offer many possibilities. Eighteen informants from practice, academia, search technology vendors and large organizations (Oil and Gas, Governments, Pharmaceuticals, Aerospace and Retail) were interviewed to assess challenges and future directions. The findings confirmed the existence of the ‘Google Habitus’, technology propaganda and a need to transcend disciplines for a Systems thinking approach toward enterprise search. This encompasses information management, user search literacy, governance, learning feedback loops as well as technology. A novel four-level model for enterprise search use cases is presented, covering search as a utility, search as an answer machine, search task apps and a discovery engine. This could be used to reframe enterprise search perceptions, expanding possibilities and improving business outcomes.


This paper provides a general note on the state of the art in the application of nondestructive testing techniques (NDT) for the detection of defects or deteriorations in metallic and nonmetallic oil and gas pipes. The advantages and disadvantages of each technique will be pointed out.

Regarding the South Caspian oil and gas province, it is concluded that the Pliocene productivity prevails in the western part of the province, and that the gas and oil prospects of the eastern land side in the Mesozoic are prioritized. A retrospective analytical review of geological and geophysical data and publications on the Mesozoic of Southwestern Turkmenistan was carried out, which showed the low efficiency of the performed seismic and drilling operations in the exploration and evaluation of very complex Mesozoic objects. A massive resumption of state-of-the-art seismic exploration and appraisal drilling in priority areas and facilities performed by leading Russian companies is proposed. For some areas, a new, increased estimate of the projected gas resources is given. An example of modern high-efficiency additional exploration of the East Cheleken, a small Pliocene gas and oil field, which turned this field into a large one in terms of reserves, is given.

The evolving field of persuasive and behavior change technology is increasingly targeted at influencing behavior in the area of health and wellness. This paper provides an empirical review of 16 years (85 papers) of literature on persuasive technology for health and wellness to: (1.) answer important questions regarding the effectiveness of persuasive technology for health and wellness, (2.) summarize and highlight trends in the technology design, research methods, motivational strategies, theories, and health behaviors targeted by research to date, (3.) uncover pitfalls of existing persuasive technological interventions for health and wellness, and (4.) suggest directions for future research.

Abstract We are now living in what has been described as the Experience Era, where lines between the digital and physical are increasingly blurred. As such, we are just beginning to see how customized access to space will improve asset stewardship in ways that are still evolving, as customization of on-orbit technology pushes the bounds of how we receive and process information. Specific to oil and gas operators, one technology being launched by microsatellite, hyperspectral imagery (HSI), is poised to enable unparalleled daily global pipeline leak prevention, detection and speciation, intrusion and change detection capabilities. This will replace conventional DOT pipeline patrol for compliance while contributing to our understanding of vapor emissions as regulated by the Environmental Protection Agency. This paper discusses both the evolving space marketplace and the state of the art for HSI, including current examples of hyperspectral findings regarding pipeline and terminal leaks. Successful deployment of HSI will drive a decrease in the number and magnitude of pipeline leaks using persistent, global, high-resolution data collection, rapid and reliable analysis, and immediate reporting of actionable information. For decades, satellite HSI technology has offered a promise of remote hydrocarbon detection and other features of interest. It is only now becoming scalable, accessible to, and cost-effective for the pipeline industry, and thus a reality for cost-effective pipeline stewardship.

This paper discusses the use of floating production systems (FPS) in developing offshore fields and includes consideration of related system and subsystem options. The system options are discussed from their relative technical and economic merits. Proven conventional and state-of-the-art technology as well as technical limitations are included. A decision tree matrix has been developed for use in the early planning stages to assist in determining preferred baseline options for selecting an approach. Systems from the mud-line upwards to the floating hull, and on-board systems, are included.
