Abstract Distance education undoubtedly has many advantages, such as individualization of the learning process, unified transmission of teaching materials, the opportunity to study at any place and any time, reduction of financial costs for commuting to classes or accommodation of participants, etc. Adequate working conditions on the e-learning portal must also be present, eg. well-prepared, substantive courses and good communication between the participants. Therefore, an important element in the process of conducting e-learning courses is to measure the increase of knowledge and satisfaction of participants with distance learning. It allows for fine-tuning the content of the course and for classes to be properly organized. This paper presents the results of teaching and assessment of satisfaction with e-learning courses in “Problems of multiculturalism in medicine”, “Selected issues of visual rehabilitation” and “Ophthalmology and Ophthalmic Nursing”, which were carried out experimentally at the Faculty of Health Sciences at the Medical University of Bialystok for nursing students for the 2010/2011 academic year. The study group consisted of 72 part-time students who learnt in e-learning mode and the control group of 87 students who learnt in the traditional way. The students’ opinions about the teaching process and final exam scores were analyzed based on a specially prepared survey questionnaire. Organization of e-learning classes was rated positively by 90% of students. The average result on the final exams for all distance learning subjects was at the level of 82%, while for classes taught in the traditional form it was 81%. Based on these results, we conclude that distance learning is as effective as learning according to the traditional form in medical education studies.

Abstract This paper presents an analysis of learning effectiveness for the courses “Selected issues in visual rehabilitation” and “Ophthalmology and ophthalmic nursing” taught in the years 2009-2011 at the Medical University of Bialystok, Poland. We compared the effectiveness of traditional and distance learning methods; an e-learning platform was implemented experimentally for the purpose of this study. We assessed the usefulness of online learning in terms of organization, knowledge gained and students’ satisfaction with the course. The study was conducted among 75 second year master degree students in the nursing field in the academic years 2009/2010 and 2010/2011. The students were divided into two groups. For the study group of 39 persons (52%), lectures and seminars took place on an e-learning platform, while 36 persons (48%) in the control group attended traditional classes. 80% of students in the e-learning group and 89% of students in the traditional group assessed the organization of both forms of courses positively. The fact that the majority of students in both the e-learning (89%) and traditional classes (86%) gave positive feedback indicates that for both forms there was a high level of content and technical preparedness. The mean scores of the final exam for both courses were 82% in the e-learning group and 79% in the traditional group in the years 2009- 2011. The above results show that both forms of learning are equally effective.

Abstract Background: Although various forms of online education are on the rise worldwide, effects of such innovative approach are yet to be validated. This study analyzes whether blended e-learning cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) education that integrates e-learning and face-to-face education is effective in improving nursing students’ knowledge, attitude, and self-efficacy. Methods: The participants of this study were 120 nursing students randomly assigned to the intervention group (n = 60) or the control (n = 60). Differences before and after the education of each group were analyzed with a paired t-test, and the differences between the two groups were analyzed with ANCOVA with knowledge as the covariate. Results: The findings indicated that the intervention group had significantly higher knowledge, F(1,117) =595.78, p <.001, and emotional attitude, F(1,117) = 9.61, p = .002, about CPR than the control group. Conclusions: Blended e-learning CPR programs could be used as effective supplemental CPR education for nursing students.

INTRODUCTION: Web-based e-learning is a teaching tool increasingly used in many medical schools and specialist fields, including ophthalmology. AIMS: this pilot study aimed to develop internet-based course-based clinical cases and to evaluate the effectiveness of this method within a graduate medical education group. METHODS: this was an interventional randomized study. First, a website was built using a distance learning platform. Sixteen first-year ophthalmology residents were then divided into two randomized groups: one experimental group, which was submitted to the intervention (use of the e-learning site) and another control group, which was not submitted to the intervention. The students answered a printed clinical case and their scores were compared. RESULTS: there was no statistically significant difference between the groups. CONCLUSION: We were able to successfully develop the e-learning site and the respective clinical cases. Despite the fact that there was no statistically significant difference between the access and the non access group, the study was a pioneer in our department, since a clinical case online program had never previously been developed.

Nursing skill education plays a very important part for the nursing education. It’s necessary to analyze the role of the case-based teaching (CBT) in nursing skill education, to provide insights into the nursing education. The sophomore nursing students who received nursing skill teaching from September 2019 to January 2020 were selected. The students either underwent traditional teaching (control group) or CBT (CBT group) intervention. The objective structure clinical examination (OSCE), autonomous learning ability, questionnaire for effects evaluation of CBT, and student’s satisfaction level on CBT were analyzed. A total of 146 participants were included. There were no significant differences in the gender, age and the final exam score as freshman between 2 groups (all P > .05). The OSCE scores and autonomous learning ability in CBT group were significantly higher than that of control group (all P < .05). The most students favored the use of CBT, and most students were satisfied with CBT. CBT is beneficial to improve the nursing skill and comprehensive ability of students, and it’s conducive to increase the interest of students, which merits application in nursing education.

The aim of the study was to assess the effectiveness of the formation of universal and professional competencies of doctors healthcare organizers during distance learning on training cycles. The objectives of the study included the development of an additional professional advanced training program "Organization of health care and public health" with the inclusion of a training module using distance learning technologies (DLT) "Development and implementation of a quality management system in a medical organization", development of a distance course "Organization of internal quality control and safety of medical activities" with an adapted system for assessing the level of competence formation in the form of test control and experimental verification of the effectiveness of the formation of universal and professional competencies of doctors healthcare organizers in distance learning in comparison with the traditional form in training cycles. Reliable results have been obtained on the effective formation of competencies both in traditional learning and in learning using DLT. The assessment of the reliability of the differences in test results after training between the experimental group, trained using DLT, and the control group, using the traditional form of training, was carried out. There were no statistically significant differences in test results between the compared groups. Thus, the results of the study indicate that the use of DLT in teaching and the education quality control system adapted to them makes it possible to effectively form the universal and professional competencies of doctors in the courses of advanced training. At the same time, mandatory preliminary measures should be taken, including the development of a professional development program with the inclusion of a distance learning module and the development of a distance course with an adapted knowledge control system.

Abstract Background: The COVID-19 pandemic has caused a sudden shift to distance learning. For many nursing students, distance learning was a new experience. Along with being an essential requirement for retaining students, developing a sense of community is a factor influencing students' success in distance learning. Assessments of the effectiveness of e-learning have been well documented in the literature. However, there is a dearth of research that assessed nursing students’ sense of community. This study aimed to assess students’ sense of community during e-learning, while determining its impact on their level of satisfaction. Methods: This cross-sectional descriptive study used convenience sampling to collect data via a student satisfaction survey and a classroom community scale. Nursing students were recruited from 13 public and private nursing programs in Saudi Arabia. Results: There was a positive and significant correlation between a sense of community and satisfaction with teaching (r = .269, p < .001), satisfaction with assessment (r = .258, p < .001), satisfaction with generic skills and learning experiences (r = .238, p < .001), and total satisfaction with e-learning (r = .07, p < .001). Students who perceived themselves as working collaboratively with their classmates and being more engaged in their learning were more satisfied with e-learning (p<.01). There were no significant variations in the participants’ satisfaction by age (β = −.06, p > .05) and sex (β = −.283, p > .05). However, school level was significantly correlated with satisfaction with e-learning. Specifically, students in lower levels of their nursing school had higher satisfaction rates with e-learning (95% CI [.08, 1.33], [F (3, 99) = 6.96, p < .001, β = −.335, R2 = .174]).Conclusions: Failing to meet student expectations can lead to low levels of student involvement. Thus, students’ engagement and satisfaction are good indicators of the quality and effectiveness of online programs. This study calls for further action through seminars and training sessions to introduce innovative teaching techniques and alternative assessment plans for learners in advanced levels. This study helps educational institutions devise strategies to enhance the level of interaction and cooperation among nursing students.
