Politicians use their political interviews to convey their thoughts towards their nations or others. This study aims to analyze conversation analysis and implicature of maxims being flouted by Adel Al-Jubeir regarding the Yemeni campaign, which started on 26th of March 2014. The study uses descriptive qualitative method. The data were institutional talk (Interview) conducted by Adel Al-Jubeir as IE (interviewee) and the journalist Wolf Blitzer as IR (interviewer) in the CNN channel in Washington. The data were analyzed according to Clayman and Heritage (2002) for conversation analysis and implicature of maxim based on Grice (1975). The results show two linguistic evidences. First, in institutional talks, conversation consists of three components, namely, opening, content, and closing. The opening includes the introduction, the content includes the announcement of the beginning of the campaign interface on Yemen and the Iranian nuclear program and its threat to Saudi Arabia, and the closing includes complete pairs (greetings). Second, for implicature analysis, the results show that Al-Jubeir being over-informative, stating more than required, represented with 82% of the quantity. He made a speech that he believed to be false, unjustified, and untruthful replies, representing 100% in the scale of quality. He gave irrelevant meaning to respond other participants’ utterances, representing 65% of maxim of relation. He gave unclear and indirect replies, representing 77% of maxim of manner. Besides, Al-Jubeir cooperated with IR. In addition, it can be summarized that he applied both particularized conversational and general implicature on political interview with some violation of the maxims as well.

Love is something that everyone may have. Even love is the right of every human being in the world so that everyone has the right to love and be loved by others. Generally love is a form of emotion that contains attraction, sexual desire, and attention to someone. This shows that love has several components in it including intimacy, passion, and commitment. This research is focused on analyzing love experiences by using the triangular theory of love by Sternberg on some of the characters in the novel Breaking Dawn by Stephenie Meyer. This research used a descriptive qualitative method and used Sternberg's theory to analyze the experience of love in the breaking dawn novel. In this research, the researcher analyzed three components of semiotics as well as connotative and denotative meanings in iPhone advertisements. This analysis is related to the meaning or meaning of the print ads of some types of iPhone and the use of the language meaning in  the headline which is an important component in advertising. The language in the ads is used as a means of communicating between ads with buyers. These ads convey messages through language so that language should be made as attractive as possible to attract the attention of consumers. Researchers used twenty-five iPhone ads (first generation iPhone to iPhone X) as research objects analyzed using the semiotics theory of Pierce and Barthes and  advertising theory as a supporting theory. This research uses descriptive qualitative method. There are several steps of analysis performed: finding representament, object and interpretant of advertisement and explaining and determining the meaning of the sign used from the headline of each advertisement also find out how semiotic is used as a tool to convey the message of the advertisement. The analysis results show that the representament obtained from a headline words, logo and some picture which help ads to show the iPhone. An object described from the color of display, brightness also the background of the online ads itself and then interpretant is the relation between representament-object. From the headline found connotative sign contain the primacy from step, revolution, dimension that Apple’s company passed. While the denotation shows the privilege from specification, price, features which gave benefit people must choose and purchase the Apple product.

This thesis is a study about types of interruption and functions of interruption in a television talk show named Indonesia Lawyers Club. This study aims to identify the types of interruption found in the Indonesia Lawyers Club. The main theory used in supporting this study is a theory of types of interruption proposed by Ferguson (1977). In conducting this study, the researcher used a descriptive qualitative method. The results of this study found that there are four types of interruption found in the talk show. They are simple interruption (SI), overlap interruption (OI), Butting-in interruption (BI) and silent interruption (SLI). OI is the most dominant types of interruption found in the data. There are 9 occurrences of OI (36%), 8 occurrences of SI (32%), 5 occurrences of BI (20%) and 3 occurrences of SLI (12%).

Complete online learning is mandatory due to COVID 19 that hit Indonesia. In the implementation of fully online learning, there are obstacles and obstacles. So it is necessary to research the conditions of learning while entirely online. This study describes the learning process and obstacles during complete online learning. This study also discusses online learning facilities that are of interest to students. This research uses a descriptive qualitative method to analyze the problem. Respondents in this study were 2047 students. This study resulted in 3 things that happened to fully online learning related to quotas, learning media, and learning facilities. These three components need attention so that full online lectures can run smoothly.

Communication is the process to share the information to other and understand the purposes between the speaker and hearer. This research contains a discussion identifying the adjacency pair as uttered by speaker which applied in Stork 2016 movie and to finding out the structures of Adjacency Pairs and analyze the conversations. An adjacency pairs is identified by different speakers between the second utterance as related to the first that composed of two turns produced which are placed adjacency. The study applied a descriptive-qualitative method. The conversation was analyzed by the type of adjacency pair (Sacks et al., 1974). It was found that in the movie there are greeting-greeting, question–answer, question–question, suggestion–acceptance, information–question, offer–refusal, question (inserted question - answer)–answer.Keywords: adjacency pairs, conversation analysis, utterance

Song is one example of literature. Listening song is enjoyable activity, but the listener cannot get a pleasure if they do not understand the meaning in the song. Sometimes song consists of symbol to describe the meaning of a song. Based on the reason, it brought the researcher to find out the symbol and meaning in the song lyrics and to explain the impacts of symbol toward real life. This study applied a descriptive qualitative method. Through this method the researcher tried to analyze, explain, and find out the meaning of the symbols by using Charles Sanders Pierce’s theory. In this case, Charles Sanders Pierce developed a triadic model in illustrating the definition of the sign as a symbol. The triadic model consisted of three components; representamen, object and interpretant. The unit analysis of this study were Westlife’s songs, there were more than 145 songs in 11 albums. Because of the large amount of the songs, the researcher chose 7 songs from the Greatest Album of Westlife that are Swear it Again, If I Let You Go, Flying without Wings, I Have a Dream, My Love, Uptown Girl, and You Raise Me Up. This study contained 5 kinds of symbols that were symbol of color (12 items), symbol of thing (19 items), symbol of situation (18 items), symbol of sound (5 items), and symbol of imaginative (7 items). Furthermore, the most dominant symbol was symbol of thing. Symbols brought some impacts to real life to help the listeners or the readers to understand the real meaning toward real life.   Keywords: Symbol; song; semiotics; westlife

The purpose of this study was to describe the patterns and functions of questions expressed in conversational implicature found in market transactions. A descriptive qualitative method was used in this research. And conversation analysis was applied to determine question patterns, while conversational implicature was to examine question functions. The research data was collected in the form of recorded and transcripted conversations along with the corresponding situations or contexts. The data of this research was primarily obtained from both sellers and buyers in Way Halim Market, Lampung, Indonesia, and it was gathered by listening and taking notes. This study showed that there were six types of question patterns found in such transactions that contained conversational implicature, namely (1) yes/no question for asking, (2) tag question for rejecting and ordering (3) declarative question for ordering, (4) alternative question for asking, (5) wh-question for asking and sugesting, and (6) rhetorical question for rejecting. The results also indicated that the sellers used persuasive implied questions more often than the buyers. Pendekatan penelitian ini adalah kualitatif deskriptif. Adapun jenis penelitian dalam menganalisis data menggunakan analisis percakapan untuk menentukan pola pertanyaan dan implikatur percakapan untuk menentukan fungsi tuturan pertanyaan. Data penelitian berupa tuturan percakapan hasil rekaman yang telah ditranskrip serta situasi atau konteks percakapan yang melatarbelakangi peristiwa tersebut. Sumber data penelitian ini diperoleh dari para pedagang dan pembeli di Pasar Way Halim, Provinsi Lampung, Indonesia. Pengumpulan data menggunakan metode simak dan metode catat. Hasil penelitian ini ditemukan enam bentuk pola pertanyaan dalam transaksi jual beli yang mengandung implikatur percakapan, yaitu (1) yes/no question fungsi meminta, (2) tag question fungsi menolak dan menyuruh (3) declarative question fungsi menyuruh, (4) alternative question fungsi meminta, (5) wh-question fungsi meminta dan menyarankan, dan (6) rhetorical question fungsi menolak. Dari data yang ditemukan, penjual lebih sering menggunakan tuturan pertanyaan bersifat persuasif dengan makna yang disampaikan secara tidak langsung kepada pembeli. Fungsi penggunaan tuturan persuasif tersebut yakni penjual terlihat memiliki kesantunan sehingga mempengaruhi pembeli dengan harapan akan terjadi transaksi jual beli.Kata kunci: pola pertanyaan, implikatur, transaksi jual-beli

Song is a series of words that are obtained from the inspiration of everyday life. a series of words arranged in such a way that they contain rhythm and meaning that will be conveyed to the listener. Songs are part of literary works. Listening to songs is a very fun activity. sometimes the listener just listens to it and doesn't understand the symbols and meanings in the song. sometimes the song consists of symbols to describe the feelings of the composer. Based on the reason, it brought the reseasrcher to find out the symbol and  application of Symbol in the song lyrics and To explain the meaning songs in Westlife’s Coast to Coast Album. This research applied a descriptive qualitative method. Through this method the researcher Tried to analyze, explain,and find out the symbols by using Charles Sanders Pierce’s theory. In this case, Charles Sanders Pierce developed a triadic model in illustrating the definition of the sign as a symbol. The triadic model consisted of three components; representamen, object and interpretant. In this research researcher taken the specific objects of the analysis were songs from Westlife the name of album was Coast to Coast. The song consist of seventeen songs, there were My love, What makes a man, I lay my love on you, When you’re looking like that, Close, Somebody needs you, Angel’s wing’s, Soledad, Puzzle of my heart, Dreams come true, No place that far, close your eyes, You make me feel, Loneliness knows me by name, Fragile heart, Every little thing you do, Uptown girl. The symbols found are empty heart, enthusiasm, spirit, motivation, loyalty, simplicity, strength, happiness, and sadness. Every lyrics written must have a message aimed at both listeners and readers. The message is directed with the intention of making them impress after listening to and reading the lyrics.

  This research aims to identify the ways of conveying the types of preference performed by the characters in Calibre movie. This research used a descriptive qualitative method. 70 utterances transcribed and then identified as many as 31 data. The utterances from the characters in Calibre movie were specified as data. They were taken from the transcript of the movie and used as an interpretation of the context. The main instrument was the researcher assisted with the movie and its transcript. In analyzing the data, the theory of Yule’s conversation analysis was used. This theory clarified the forms of the preferred and dispreferred acts including the types and ways of performing. The results showed that there are nine ways to convince the types of preference: (1) delaying/hesitating, (2) prefacing, (3) expressing doubt, (4) using token yes, (5) mentioning obligation, (6) making a non-personal reason, (7) giving an account, (8) direct agreement and direct declination, and (9) arguing.

ABSTRAKPenelitian ini bertujuan untuk menjawab permasalahan pokok mengenai Nilai-nilai pendidikan Islam yang merujuk pada tiga komponen ajaran Islam yang telah disebutkan yakni iman sebagai landasan akidah, ibadah, dan akhlak. Ketiganya ini, sarat pula dengan unsur sarak yang senantiasa menjadi sasaran dan perhatian khusus pendidikan Islam baik melalui jalur informal, formal dan nonformal. Oleh karena itu penelitian ini berusaha untuk menjawab pertanyaan secara khusus yakni (1) bagaimana relevansi nilai-nilai pendidikan Islam dengan sarak sebagai unsur pangngadakkang pada suku Makassar. (2) bagaimana implikasi nilai-nilai pendidikan Islam dalam sarak sebagai unsur pangngadakkang di kalangan suku Makassar. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif, yakni metode penelitian yang memberikan gambaran tentang situasi dan kejadian secara faktual dan sistimatis mengenai faktor-faktor, sifat-sifat, serta hubungan antara fenomena yang dimiliki untuk melakuakan akumulasi dasar-dasarnya saja. Pendapat lainnya menyatakan bahwa penelitian deskriptif kualitatif adalah penelitian untuk melakukan eksplorasi dan memperkuat prediksi terhadap suatu gejala yang berlaku atas dasar data yang diperoleh di lapangan. Kata Kunci : Nilai-nilai Islam dan Pangngadakkang ABSTRACTThis study aims to answer the main issued concerning the values of Islamic education which refers to the three components of Islamic teachings that has been mentioned namely faith as the foundation of faith, worship, and morals. All three of these, loaded with the element of sarak which always be the target and special attention of Islamic education both through informal, formal and nonformal channels. Therefore this research was trying to answer the question specifically namely (1) how to the relevance of Islamic education values with sarak as pangngadakkang element on Makassar tribe. (2) how to the implications of the values of Islamic education in sarak as pangngadakkang among Makassar tribe. This research used descriptive qualitative method, that was research method which gives description about factual and systematic situation and happenings about factors, properties, and relationship between phenomena to do baseball accumulation only. Another opinion states that qualitative descriptive research was a study to explore and strengthen the prediction of a symptom that applied on the basis of data obtained in the field. Keywords: Islamic Values and Pangngadakkang
