Turkic kinship terminologies represent a mixture of words of native and foreign origin, and the proportion of loanwords reflects the degree of linguistic and cultural interference between the Turkic and other Eurasian languages. As the intensity of socio-cultural relations between languages and communities increases, the proportion of loanwords in kinship vocabulary also increases. This paper provides an overview of historical, linguistic, and cultural aspects of kinship loanwords in the Turkic languages. The paper covers the following eight kinds of kin types in the Turkic languages: (1) parents, (2) siblings, (3) cousins, (4) children, (5) grandparents, (6) uncles/aunts, (7) nephews/nieces, (8) grandchildren. Due to the fact that in the conventional Turkic system of kinship, which is especially well-represented in pre-modern Turkic languages, two or three of these kins may be merged in one single term on the basis of generation and lineage branch, kinship loanwords examined are ordered by this criterion.

The paper analyzes the origin and cultural semantics of the Chuvash demononyms as components of the linguistic world landscape by studying lexicographic and folklore sources and archives. The research was carried out within the contemporary sphere of philology, dealing with the analysis of language and folklore as a cultural code of an ethnos. This interdisciplinary sphere prioritizes studying the linguistic world landscape as a part of the conceptual world landscape of the ethnos above other things. Therefore, it seems relevant to consider where the demononyms of the Chuvash language originate from and what their cultural semantics is since they represent the Pre-Christian religious consciousness of the ancient Chuvash. Chuvash language is of significant scientific interest as the only living language of the Bulgarian branch of the Turkic languages, still preserving many characteristics of the ancient Turkic language. The research objects are the characters of the underworld, the exact evil spirits named with different demononyms, such as alpastа, arsuri, astaha, vereselen, wupar, wupkan, usal, hayar, chuunilli, shuyttan, esrel, yuhkha. The first comprehensive analysis of the Chuvash demononyms from the etymological, cognitive discourse, and linguistic and cultural aspects has been conducted. The contents of this research and its scientific conclusions are intended to facilitate the reconstruction of one of the significant structural and functional components of the Chuvash linguistic landscape.

The works of Alisher Navoi take a special place in the literature of the Turkic peoples. The poet, who wrote a lot in his time, is distinguished by the fact that he first introduced the tradition of «Khamsa» among the Turkic peoples. His literary, historical, linguistic and memoir works had a great influence on the work of later poets. One of these works is «Muhakamatul-lugatain» («Opinion on two languages»). Having studied the grammatical features and poetic power of both languages, Navoi scientifically substantiated in this work that the Turkic literary language is in no way inferior to Persian. Using specific examples, he revealed the rich vocabulary of the Turkic literary language. In particular, he mentioned one hundred verbs that are not found in Persian and gave some examples in verses. Most of the ancient terms found in this work are widely used in the modern Kazakh language. In this article, the author reveals the significance of Navoi’s work «Mukhakamatul-lughatayn» in the field of Turkology. He also spoke briefly about the extant manuscripts of this work and focused on the specifics of these versions. The author also shared his thoughts on the first publications and subsequent studies of this work. The subject of the study is the Fatih manuscript, the specifics of the use of some Turkic words are given on specific examples. Some of the questions raised in this work of Navoi, written in the Middle Ages in parallel in two languages (zul-lisain), have not lost their relevance today. In the Middle Ages, Arabic, Persian and Turkic languages competed with each other, and in the era of globalization, the scope of application of English, Russian and Kazakh languages in Kazakh society is growing again. This indicates the relevance of studying the work of Navoi.

Abstract Background All children in Sweden are invited to health visits to the school nurse to talk about their health. However, health visits with children of foreign origin might involve challenges when the child and school nurse do not share language and or culture. Such challenges might hinder the child's participation as e.g. sharing needs and experiences important for their health. Hence, school nurses' promotion of participation for these children need to be clarified to develop knowledge on how to promote health. The aim was to investigate school nurses' descriptions of promoting participation for children of foreign origin in health visits. Methods A cross-sectional study was conducted, using a web-based questionnaire distributed to all school nurses in Sweden. It contained eight open-ended questions regarding promotion of participation for children of foreign origin. Answers were provided by 673 Swedish school nurses and analyzed using qualitative content analysis. Results The preliminary result shows that school nurses use three approaches to promote participation: 1) adjusting according to the child's proficiency in Swedish and/or cultural or national background, 2) adjusting according to the child's individual needs, and 3) doing the same for all children regardless of their origin. These approaches are used throughout the health visit, although the most commonly was number 1. Such adjustments included the school nurse considering cultural aspects, simplifying their way of talking, or asking the child about their culture or background. Conclusions Adjustment according to the child's proficiency in Swedish and/or cultural or national background are warranted to promote participation in health visits with children of foreign origin. These will strengthen the opportunities for children to share their experiences as well as the encounter between school nurses and children. Key messages School nurses adjust promotion of participation when encountering children of foreign origin. Adjusting promotion of participation in health visits will enable children to share their health needs.

Abstract One major problem confronting the definition of Comparative Literature is that of the involvement (on the one hand) of more than one literature under comparison and (on the other hand) that of the consideration of the multidimensional aspects of such literature, such as social, historical, linguistic, religious, economic and cultural aspects of divergent societies. This study is guided by the above factors in analyzing the concept of Racial Discrimination in Southern Africa and African American literatures in the sense that the former’s experiences were on African soil, while the latter’s were on the NewFound land (America). The paper observes that racial discrimination was much severe and oppressive without much resistance in America than in Southern Africa where Africans withstood and fought back against an unjust, wicked and oppressive system.
